Development of a Guide to Successful Onboarding of New Nurse Graduates

Young, Jacquelyn Estelle 01 January 2016 (has links)
The literature indicates that serving as a preceptor for new nurse graduates can be challenging and stressful without proper training in this role. Many organizations appoint preceptors without providing training and support for the role, which negatively impacts both the new nurse and the preceptor. Evidence shows that a preceptor workshop can cultivate the knowledge and skills needed to train and precept new nurse graduates. Further, there is evidence that preceptorship programs ease new graduates' transition to practice, increase employee satisfaction, and improve the quality of care provided to clients. The purpose of this developmental project was to develop a preceptor workshop to prepare registered nurses to serve in the capacity of preceptors within a local agency to ease the transition for new nurse graduates into practice, increase employee satisfaction, increase retention rates, and promote higher quality of care within organizations. The preceptor workshop proposed in this project incorporates Watson's caring theory, Benner's novice-to-expert model, and Wright's domain-specific competency assessment model. These theoretical frameworks served to guide the curriculum and design of an eight-module workshop. This workshop will be shared with the partnering organization with the recommendation for implementation and evaluation within the next year. Development of an effective training program for preceptors will result in positive social change by improving outcomes for preceptors, preceptees, the organization, and the clients. Implementing this workshop will have a positive impact on the quality of care provided to clients within the organization by the affects on retention rates, satisfaction, and transition to practice.

Setting the Stage : - 0m att motivera träning med hjälp av SportIT.

Nilsson, Fredrik January 2010 (has links)

The last few years a lot of media air time has been devoted to training, sports, health and weightloss on a more personal level then before. The new media arena is beeing used at its´ maximumto broadcast wievs on how we should eat, look, exercise and live. This thesis is trying to makebetter understanding on what people in general think is important when it comes to physicaltraining and motivation with the aid of digital media and IT systems. The thesis describes aworkshop that was conducted within the frames of Participatory Design and the outcome of thatworkshop. The workshop was conducted with a group of lead users (in this case instructors at avery large fitness center in Umeå, Sweden) and the main question was ”How can IT be used toachive a positive effect on physical exercise if motivation is the focus?”. Data was collectedduring both a future workshop and an analysis of a digital media production prototype, andcould be seen as two qualitative studies. The outcome of these studies shows three interestingareas where motivation aided by IT is importat. Primarily it is through the experience of theclass. Through flow and mindfulness. Secondarily motivation can be aided by IT in the field ofresult analysis. As a final arena motivation could also be aided by IT through informationsharing between the finess center and the class participants.

Action Research on Elementary School Teachers¡¦ Creative Drama curriculum---Teachers¡¦ Drama Workshop from Tainan County as the Example

Kuo, Hsing-mei 05 September 2007 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate how Teachers¡¦ Drama Workshop established by elementary school teachers, and the systematic and consistent seminars helped increase teachers¡¦ specialty in drama teaching. The feedback to the workshop would be later examined to pass down plans and to develop suitable creative drama curriculum for elementary school. The research outcomes could serve as future reference to drama teaching in performing art. The focus of this study was on how the members in a teachers¡¦ specialized group cooperated, shared and interacted, and on the effectiveness of promoting specialty. This author used action research for investigation, starting from meeting the needs of the subjects involved, holding conversations, finding and solving problems. The conclusions were as follows. 1.Difficulties in promoting performing art curriculum in elementary school included the shortage of teachers, the ineffectiveness of seminars and teachers¡¦ lack of specialized knowledge. 2.The key to improve performing art curriculum and teaching was a systematic teacher training program. 3.Teachers¡¦ specialized groups helped teachers promoting the specialty, and shared and enriched their knowledge. 4.The feedback program helped teachers solving problems, and learned by teaching. 5.Teachers paid more attention on teaching goals when teaching drama. 6.As curricular designs differed in advantages, different designs should be well combined to make good use of all the advantages. 7.Creative drama curriculum in elementary school should include body exploring, sound and facial expression, puppets and masks, improvisation, storytelling, storytelling theater, drama appreciation, drama creation, exhibition and show. 8.There should be more than eight creative drama lessons in a semester and twenty lessons in a school year. 9.The content of creative drama teaching should be altered in proportion as the cognitive development of students changed. To succeed was to inspire students and cultivate their abilities year by year. 10.Designing and developing the Creative drama teaching lessons should experenced some stages, from brewing/preparation, development, integration to realization. During the process, some steps were also crucial, such as analyzing, discussing, designing, practicing, examining and correcting. The researcher offered the following suggestions. 1.The most important mission so far was teacher training. 2.Teachers should join more related seminars to increase their specialized knowledge in creative drama. 3.Creative drama curriculum should be promoted in elementary school to encourage open and multi learning and to help students develop fine personalities. 4.Curriculum should be put into practice step by step, and students¡¦ changes would thus be clearly traced. 5.Teachers should be encouraged to establish specialty groups of performing art, to form unions for strategy exchange so as to share and enrich their knowledge. This author also offered five points to ponder, hoping these research outcomes would be helpful reference for upgrading performing art teaching and enriching students¡¦ learning experience.

Professional Development, Writer's Workshop and Identity: A Case Study of Women Elementary School Teachers Using Writing as Resistance

Zisook, Karla J 11 August 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this qualitative case study was to uncover the ways that women elementary school teachers negotiate their identities within the context of writer’s workshop by exploring issues of gender, literacy, and identity. The two central participants were women elementary school teachers who were involved at their Professional Development School with university partnership and were learning how to implement a writer’s workshop instructional model. This study considers how the participants’ involvement in professional development with a university faculty member shaped their identities as women and professionals. The theoretical framework is critical theory and identity theory in which literacy and identity are deeply connected (Moje & Luke, 2009). Furthermore, this study is situated in the literature exploring teachers’ roles and identities historically in order to position them today (Carter, 2002; Hoffman, 2003; Biklen, 1995). The questions this study will explore include: (a) How have the participants’ identities been affected by their involvement in the Corey Richardson Writing Collaborative? (b) How does gender mediate their professional identities? This case study used in depth interviews, document analysis, and observations to generate detailed data. Themes that were prominent in the data were gender and teaching, dealing with mandates, issues of expertise, caring, and writing as resistance. The conclusions of this study reveal that the within the context of caring professional development, teachers were able to take up writer’s workshop as a means of resisting a system that was often frustrating and oppressive. They negotiated their gendered roles as teachers in complex ways and used literacy as a way to reclaim their own power.

Visualization of Dynamic Information

Tyboni, Cecilia January 2012 (has links)
Sandvik IT Services (SITS) ambition is to provide a smooth and suitable IT environment for the whole Sandvik organization. The idea is that SITS should provide end-to-end solutions globally in an efficient manner. To ensure that they can provide this, they have to be efficient in their work. To handle problems regarding incident and support, they have a large TV screen that shows important information about different processes. The demand for the information has increased; therefore the information displayed on the screen has also increased. Today, the amount of information on the screen is too big and it makes the information difficult to read and absorb. This work will help make SITS application management more effective in the future. Through Workshops for both managers and developers, it is necessary to find out the difference of what SITS requires to diversify priority information. And also be able to view the information in a user-friendly way, a layout of the information is suggested. The result of this work is to produce a design proposal.

Stefan, Catalin, Phan, Hoang Mai, Pham, Van Bo, Werner, Peter 06 August 2012 (has links) (PDF)
The present paper summarizes the results of an application initiated within the framework of 35 years celebration of diplomatic relations between Germany and Vietnam. Within this context, the Technische Universität Dresden (TUD) and the Academy of Managers for Construction and Cities (AMC) jointly organized in 2010 a series of four thematic workshops. The one-day events have had similar structures and focused on main subjects of interest in the water sectors of both countries. In Vietnam, the workshops took place in Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Nha Trang and Vung Tau. Best practice examples about conceptualization, operation and maintenance of municipal water works provided an insight view into the challenges currently faced by the water service providers. TUD and AMC, together with their German and Vietnamese partners, addressed these issues by organizing the consecutive workshops under the umbrella of Vietnamese Water Supply and Sewerage Association (VWSA) and in coordination with the German Water Partnership (GWP). The Integration of MATLAB and Embedded Controller for Control Application

Sun, I-chin 03 February 2004 (has links)
In recent years, the requirement for embedded controllers has been steadily on the increase due to the development of computers, communication and consumptive products. In order to overcome the pressure of short life-time and rapid changing rate of products, however, related industries have been engaged in improving their design to shorten the time to market and to lower the cost. Therefore, a new concept, rapid controller prototyping, has been proposed to solve the problem with the development of controllers. However, most of the proposals are expensive and restricted in the choice of software and hardware, and aren¡¦t adequate for research. To solve the problems above, this paper has chosen MATLAB/Simulink, Real-Time Workshop, a software widely used by the academic community, as tools to study rapid controller prototyping. Here, we also focus on the establishment of the developing platform. Then we design, simulate and test the controller on the platform established. Finally, we apply the controller to the physical plant. By doing so, this paper expects to solve current problems in the development of controllers.

What is the future we want? Future Session Workshops in Japanese Deliberative Democracy

Ishihara, Sachiko January 2015 (has links)
This study explored the nature of Future Session workshops in current Japan by identifying the motivations, conducting analysis from the point of view a deliberative democracy, and examining the potentials for developing future visions of society. Four workshops were targeted that dealt with a wide range of societal problems and commonly challenged existing societal structures. The study found that the workshops were motivated by the doubt over the current direction of the society, a demand for a crosscutting cooperation between different fields, and a need to foster proactive actors through participatory workshop processes. Accordingly, it is argued that “deliberative democracy of workshops” based on dialogue and collaboration rather than confrontational communication and competition constitutes a Japanese deliberative democracy. The study also shows that the created projects and processes of deliberation contained many critical perspectives towards the dominant societal structure and norms. Finally, it is concluded that the process of actualizing the projects should be reflected carefully and the potential of these methods depends on the overreaching objective of its use.

THE EFFECTS OF A MENTAL IMAGERY WORKSHOP ON COACHES’ ENCOURAGEMENT OF IMAGERY USE

Edwards, Jaymi 30 April 2010 (has links)
Recreational athletes are encouraged to use mental imagery by their coaches less frequently than elite athletes (Jedlic, Hall, Munroe-Chandler, & Hall, 2007). The purpose of this study was to examine whether a mental imagery workshop would increase recreational level coaches’ encouragement of imagery to their athletes when compared to coaches attending a communication workshop. The workshops provided coaches with imagery or communication information and tools as well as role-playing opportunities. Recreational sport coaches (N = 132; M age = 41.80 years, SD = 9.67) completed the Coaches Encouragement of Athletes Imagery Use Questionnaire (CEAIUQ; Jedlic et al.), Coach-Athlete Relationship Questionnaire (CART-Q; Jowett & Ntoumanis, 2004), and questionnaires assessing coaches’ demographics, confidence, knowledge, and attitudes towards imagery. These questionnaires were completed before the workshop and online four weeks later. Repeated measure MANCOVAs, controlling for sex and highest level coached, were performed comparing the coaches’ encouragement of imagery use, as well as their confidence, attitudes, and knowledge of mental imagery, across the two study groups. No group by time interactions were found for any of the five functions of imagery. However, group by time interactions were found for knowledge (F(1, 132) = 5.45, p = .02, ηp2 = .040), attitudes (F(1,132) = 4.45, p = .01, ηp2 = .055) and confidence (F(1,132),= 7.10, p = .04, ηp2 = .032) towards imagery. Paired-samples t-tests demonstrated that the mental imagery group significantly increased their confidence from baseline to follow-up (t(65) = -2.75, p = .01). Findings provide direction for designing future coach education training programs and aid in understanding recreational sport coaches’ views on encouraging their athletes to use imagery. / Thesis (Master, Kinesiology & Health Studies) -- Queen's University, 2010-04-30 10:35:41.541
