Measurement of the shape of the boson rapidity distribution for ρρ̄→Z/γ*→e⁺e⁻+X events produced at √s = 1.96 TeV

Ding, Pengfei January 2014 (has links)
The measurement of the shape of the Z boson rapidity distribution for drell-yan events at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV is presented in this thesis. Data collected with the D0 detector during the whole RunII period of the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton collider are used. By using these data with an integrated luminosity of up to L = 9.86~$fb^{-1}$, the uncertainties on the rapidity distribution in the forward region are significantly reduced compared with previous measurements. The measurement is made for events with electron-positron mass 66 < M(ee) < 111 GeV. Predictions of Next-to-Leading-Order(NLO) QCD theory with CTEQ and MSTW parton distribution functions (PDFs) are found to agree well with the data over the full rapidity range.

The Fermilab SpinQuest Experiment: Commissioning and plans toward production

Gunawardhana Waduge, Nuwan Chaminda 09 August 2022 (has links)
E1039/SpinQuest, a transversely-polarized Drell-Yan experiment at Fermilab, plans to use the 120 GeV proton beam and polarized NH3 and ND3 cryogenic targets to study azimuthal asymmetries in dimuon production to extract the magnitude as well as sign of the sea quarks Sivers functions. The SpinQuest spectrometer is optimized to detect oppositely-charged muons with a series of tracking chambers and hodoscope stations. The scope of this manuscript is to highlight the physics goals and the experimental setup with a focus on the ongoing debugging and training of one of the tracking systems, mainly drift chambers, as preparation for the upcoming commissioning and production run-periods. This work is supported in part by the US DOE contract number DE-FG02-07ER41528. Key words: Drell-Yan, Fermilab, SpinQuest, Polarization, Tracking, Drift Chambers

Assessment of Vineyard Nitrogen Management upon Grape Chemistry

Moss, James Russell 27 August 2016 (has links)
To combat excessive vine vigor, many vintners have employed intensive cover cropping techniques. While cover crops provide a multitude of benefits to the farming system, they can compete for nutrients and water. The seemingly ubiquitous adoption of cover crops in the Eastern United States has led to vines and grape musts which are deficient in nitrogen (N). A must that is deficient in yeast assimilable nitrogen (YAN) can lead to the production of off aromas and stuck or sluggish fermentations. It has also been suggested that musts with limited amino nitrogen sources can result in wines with less fruity aromas than those with a higher starting amino acid content. Varying rates of calcium nitrate were applied to the soil at bloom and foliar urea was sprayed at a Sauvignon blanc and Petit Manseng (Vitis vinifera L.) vineyard. Perennial White and Crimson clover as well as foliar urea applications at véraison were utilized at a Vidal blanc (Vitis spp.) site. Foliar urea was effective at significantly increasing YANs in all experiments with some year to year variation in efficacy. Foliar urea applications slightly favored the production of ammonia over primary amino nitrogen. While most of the measured amino acids in fruit increased in concentration with the application of either soil or foliar N, foliar applications were more effective at increasing fruit amino acids. Of the amino acids measured, arginine and glutamine were the most increased by foliar urea applications, whereas proline was relatively unaffected. The use of clover as a perennial under-vine cover crop did not increase berry YAN. The application of foliar urea sprays may present an effective means by which vintners can easily increase must YANs and amino acid contents. / Master of Science in Life Sciences

Correspondência Mário de Andrade & Yan de Almeida Prado: edição de texto fidedigno e anotada / Exchange of letters between Mário de Andrade & Yan de Almeida Prado: a reliable and annotated version

Lopes, Leandro Sousa 21 September 2018 (has links)
A investigação buscou difundir novos dados biográficos do autor de Macunaíma, bem como lançar luz sobre a atuação de Yan de Almeida Prado no modernismo de São Paulo / This dissertation aims to present a reliable annotated edition of the correspondence exchanged between the writers Mário de Andrade (1893-1945) and Yan de Almeida Prado (1898-1987), considering the period ranged from mid-1923 to 20th May, 1939. The epistolary writings collected within the scope of this research, which is composed of 45 missives (14 signed by Mario de Andrade and 31 by Yan de Almeida Prado) are found in and preserved by the Instituto de Estudos Brasileiros da Universidade de São Paulo (USP), Biblioteca Brasiliana Guita e José Mindlin, USP, and Academia Paulista de Letras. These exchanges have helped to cast light on important sociability elements within the Brazilian modernism, as such topics as Literature, Music, Journalism, Politics, Bibliophily, etc are approached. Additionally, this investigation seeks to publish and disseminate new biographical data from Mário de Andrade as well as bringing into view Yan de Almeida Prado\'s role within São Paulo\'s modernist movement.

La réception de Mo Yan en France : traduction, diffusion, critique (1988-2014) / The reception of Mo Yan in France : translation, diffusion, critique (1988-2014)

Yin, Jing 04 November 2016 (has links)
Guan Moye, better known by his pen name Mo Yan, was born in Gaomi County in Shandong province in 1955. The pen name "Mo Yan" means "don't speak" in Chinese. Mo Yan is one of the most famous Chinese contemporary writers in France, and his works have been widely translated into French. His childhood in Gaomi County inspired his first conception of literature and is, to some extent, the portal through which we enter his realm of letters. The unique style of his works attracts many academic and media criticism, and even more after winning the Noble Prize of literature in 2012. This dissertation intends to study the translation, publication, criticism and reception of Mo Yan’s works in France. Besides a literary study, the dissertation also focuses on the imaginary of China. The research is monographic and comparative, based on his several best-known works: Red Sorghum (1986), The Republic of Wine (1993), Big Breasts and Wide Hips (1995), Sandalwood Death (2001), Pow! (2003), Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out (2006), Frog (2009)…
