L'espace non figuratif dans la scène théâtrale tunisienne contemporaine : approche plastique / The non-representational space in contemporary Tunisian theater scene : approach reading

Avec les avant-gardistes, la scène théâtrale occidentale a rompu avec l’image scénique figurative et l’illusion d’un espace présent qui représente un temps. En Tunisie, le théâtre, art implanté au début du XXe siècle (ce qui coïncide avec la naissance de l’art contemporain), a eu recours au départ à des dispositifs scéniques figuratifs imitant le quotidien tunisien. Mais dès les années soixante, le regard du metteur en scène tunisien, ayant côtoyé de près celui du plasticien, commence la recherche de sa propre voie esthétique avec l’emprunt d’un héritage oriental précolonial et plus généralement d’un ailleurs. L’image scénique abandonne la représentation figurative depuis Ben Ayed (à la fin de son parcours artistique) et devient, depuis, un lieu de recherche et d’expérimentation : d’un espace figuratif narratif vers un espace abstrait. En effet, les conditions d’échange et d’interaction entre les arts de la scène se traduisent dans l’image scénique tunisienne contemporaine et évoluent de plus en plus, aussi bien sur le fond que sur la forme.À partir d’un corpus de spectacles contemporains, allant du Théâtre National et du Théâtre de la terre, en passant par Elteatro et Familia Production, jusqu’à l’expérience du Centre National des Arts de la Marionnette et du théâtre amateur, nous examinons la présence de l’interaction entre les arts et la transcréation entre les différentes formes d’expression artistique. Des procédés technologiques, des médiums innovants, ou encore l’influence de formes théâtrales orientales, permettent aux metteurs en scène d’« ’écrire » sur scène et au public de lire et de ré-imaginer le monde avec ses visions multiples. / With avant-garde artists, the Western theatrical scene broke with figurative scenic image and the illusion of a current space that representing a certain period of time. In Tunisia, theater, an art that appeared in the early twentieth century (which coincided with the birth of contemporary art), initially resorted to figurative stage devices that represent the Tunisian daily life. But, since the sixties, the Tunisian director who had similar experience to the plastic artist, starts searching his own aesthetic way while borrowing an oriental, precolonial, and foreign heritage.The scenic images have given up its figurative representation since Ben Ayed (at the end of his artistic career) and have become a place of research and experimentation: from a narrative and figurative space to an abstract space. Indeed, the conditions of exchange and interaction between theatrical arts are reflected in contemporary Tunisian scenic image and are continuous development, in substance as well as in form.Starting from a body of contemporary performances, through the National Theatre and the Theatre of the earth, then Elteatro, and Familia Production, until the experience of the National Puppetry Arts Center and amateur theater, we can notice the presence of an interaction between the arts. We also examine a certain transcreation between the various forms of artistic expression. Another point is that Technological processes, innovative mediums, and the influence of Eastern theatrical forms, allow directors to "write" on stage and the public to read and re-imagine the world with its multiple visions

Méthodologies pour l'évaluation de performance système à grand échelle avec applications au système LTE / Scalable system level evaluations for LTE using PHY abstraction

L'objectif de cette thèse est de souligner l'importance de l'abstraction de la couche physique (PHY abstraction) dans l'évaluation des systèmes LTE (Long Term Evolution). Cette thèse propose une approche pragmatique pour l'utilisation de PHY abstraction dans les simulateurs des systèmes LTE. PHY abstraction est un outil très important pour l'évaluation des systèmes LTE à grande échelle car il est efficace, pratique et à complexité réduite . Dans cette thèse, nous prouvons que, à part son objectif principal et qui consiste à fournir un indicateur instantané de la qualité de liaison pour l'évaluation du système, le PHY abstraction peut aussi: améliorer le feedback de l'indicateur sur la qualité de canal (CQI) en se basant sur les différentes configurations d'antennes, et la prédiction de la performance des réseaux LTE en se basant sur des mesures de canal réelles. Cette thèse est principalement divisée en deux parties: méthodologies et applications. La première partie présente la conception complète et la méthodologie de validation des systèmes de captage PHY pour différentes configurations d'antennes correspondant à des différentes modes de transmissions en LTE. La validation est effectuée en utilisant des simulateurs de niveau de liaison. Nous soulignons aussi les astuces de calibrage nécessaires pour que la production PHY soit précise dans la prédiction de la performance de capacité réalisant turbo-codes. / The main focus of this thesis is to highlight the importance of PHY abstraction for the system level evaluations in the framework of 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks. This thesis presents a pragmatic approach towards the use of PHY abstraction in LTE based system level simulators. PHY abstraction is an extremely valuable low complexity tool for efficient and realistic large scale system evaluations. This thesis shows that apart from the primary purpose of PHY abstraction of providing instantaneous link quality indicator for the purpose of system level evaluations, it can be further used for an improved channel quality indicator (CQI) feedback based on the different antenna configurations and for the performance prediction of LTE networks based on the real life channel measurements. This thesis is mainly divided into two parts; methodologies and applications. The first part presents the complete design and validation methodology of PHY abstraction schemes for various antennaconfigurations corresponding to different transmission modes in LTE. The validation is performed using link level simulators and it also highlights the calibration issues necessary for the PHY abstraction to be accurate in predicting the performance of capacity achieving turbo codes.

We also describe the design approach and structure of such a language that meets the needs. The language design is described according to the three roles it must serve: (1) as a descriptive language for specifying and describing the components and configuration of an instrumentation system, (2) as a command language for issuing configuration and data commands to instrumentation hardware and (3) as a query language for requesting the current state of instrumentation hardware.

Since IHAL was first presented to ITC in 2006, a number of improvements were made to the design of IHAL. Major changes to the schema include splitting it into multiple XML Schema (XSD) files, separation of the description of instrumentation functions from the description of the hardware, and addition of a function pool.

Double Distance

My thesis exhibition Double Distance is an installation of paintings and sculptures exploring my changing relationship with myself and with my mother as she succumbs to a degenerative brain disease. Through the intersection of surrogate life-size figures made from found objects alongside and within paintings of hugging bodies, the exhibition reveals the simultaneous enmeshment and separation that occurs in caring for my mother. In repeating similar figures within and outside the painted surface, the exhibition reflects on the act of caregiving and the desire to reproduce what is loved and that which has been lost. The works included in the exhibition not only serve as preemptive memorials to my mother, but they also stand as monuments to resilience. The resulting exhibition Double Distance highlights the challenges of holding on and how sculpture and painting can serve as proxies for reconnection.

Volume Visualisation Via Variable-Detail Non-Photorealistic Illustration

The rapid proliferation of 3D volume data, including MRI and CT scans, is prompting the search within computer graphics for more effective volume visualisation techniques. Partially because of the traditional association with medical subjects, concepts borrowed from the domain of scientific illustration show great promise for enriching volume visualisation. This thesis describes the first general system dedicated to creating user-directed, variable-detail, scientific illustrations directly from volume data. In particular, using volume segmentation for explicit abstraction in non-photorealistic volume renderings is a new concept. The unique challenges and opportunities of volume data require rethinking many non-photorealistic algorithms that traditionally operate on polygonal meshes. The resulting 2D images are qualitatively different from but complementary to those normally seen in computer graphics, and inspire an analysis of the various artistic implications of volume models for scientific illustration.

Integration of unidirectional technologies into wireless back-haul architecture

Back-haul infrastructures of today's wireless operators must support the triple-play services demanded by the market or regulatory bodies. To cope with increasing capacity demand, the EU FP7 project CARMEN has developed a cost-effective heterogeneous multi-radio wireless back-haul architecture, which may also leverage the native multicast capabilities of broadcast technologies such as DVB-T to off-load high-bandwidth broadcast content delivery. However, the integration of such unidirectional technologies into a packet-switched architecture requires careful considerations. The contribution of this thesis is the investigation, design and evaluation of protocols and mechanisms facilitating the integration of such unidirectional technologies into the wireless back-haul architecture so that they can be configured and utilized by the spectrum and capacity optimization modules. This integration mainly concerns the control plane and, in particular, the aspects related to resource and capability descriptions, neighborhood, link and Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) Label-Switched Path (LSP) monitoring, unicast and multicast LSP signalling as well as topology forming and maintenance. During the course of this study we have analyzed the problem space, proposed solutions to the resulting research questions and evaluated our approach. Our results show that the now Unidirectional Technology (UDT)-aware architecture can readily consider Unidirectional Technologies (UDTs) to distribute, for example, broadcast content.
