Performance Analysis of JavaScript

Smedberg, Fredrik January 2010 (has links)
<p>In the last decade, web browsers have seen a remarkable increase of performance, especially in the JavaScript engines. JavaScript has over the years gone from being a slow and rather limited language, to today have become feature-rich and fast. It’s speed can be around the same or half of comparable code written in C++, but this speed is directly dependent on the choice of the web browser, and the best performance is seen in browsers using JIT compilation techniques.</p><p>Even though the language has seen a dramatic increase in performance, there’s still major problems regarding memory usage. JavaScript applications typically consume 3-4 times more memory than similar applications written in C++. Many browser vendors, like Opera Software, acknowledge this and are currently trying to optimize their memory usage. This issue is hopefully non-existent within a near future.</p><p>Because the majority of scientific papers written about JavaScript only compare performance using the industry benchmarks SunSpider and V8, this thesis have chosen to widen the scope. The benchmarks really give no information about how JavaScript stands in comparison to C#, C++ and other popular languages. To be able to compare that, I’ve implemented a GIF decoder, an XML parser and various elementary tests in both JavaScript and C++ to compare how far apart the languages are in terms of speed, memory usage and responsiveness.</p>

Tollin, Kristofer, Wennberg, Matti January 2010 (has links)
This thesis takes form of a case study which reflects on the development of a website for Diabetesforbundet, the Norwegian Diabetes Association. The website is a community where people can create accounts and use a number of different functions to interact with each other. The focus of this thesis lies in explaining the practical implementation of the website since this aspect is the main purpose of our degree project. We define and explain the techniques and methods used in the practical work like Contextual Inquiry and usability and thereafter put them to use to explain our design choices on the website. The development methodology we have chosen for the practical aspect of this degree project is Extreme Programming. This software development methodology focuses on pair programming, continual testing and incremental implementation. Conclusions made on web standards, web browser compatibility, usability and security will be presented and all written code follows the standards set by W3C for XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS Level 3.</p>

Yang, Faqing 29 November 2013 (has links) (PDF)

Visualization of tabular data on mobile devices / Visualisering av tabulär data på mobila enheter

Caspár, Sophia January 2018 (has links)
This thesis evaluates various ways of displaying tabular data on mobile devices using different responsive table solutions. It also presents a tool to help web developers and designers in the process of choosing and implementing a suitable table approach. The proposed solution for this thesis is a web system called The Visualizing Wizard that allows the user to answer some questions about the intended table and then get a recommended responsive table solution generated based on the answers. The system uses a rule-based approach via Prolog to match the answers to a set of rules and provide an appropriate result. In order to determine which table solutions are more appropriate to use for which type of data a statistical analysis and user tests were performed. The statistical analysis contains an investigation to identify the most common table approaches and data types used on various websites. The result indicates that solutions such as "squish", "collapse by rows", "click" and "scroll" are most common. The most common table categories are product comparison, product offerings, sports and stock market/statistics. This information was used to implement and establish user tests to collect feedback and opinions. The data and statistics gathered from the user tests were mapped into sets of rules to answer the question of which responsive table solution is more appropriate to use for which type of data. This serves as the foundation for The Visualizing Wizard.

Lindström, Hugo January 2016 (has links)
By scanning the area for Bluetooth-signals, users can find and subscribe to Bluetooth-advertisements and thus estimate its current position. The position is used to identify what actions could be executed in the premises. This report explains the underlying technology and proposes a system architecture for a Android application that together with user authentication, WebSockets and API's could control doors, ventilation, lighting and other indoor devices wirelessly. This project was carried out in collaboration with ÅF Technology AB, Embedded Systems, where the goal was to conduct a pre-study and propose how to add contextual awareness to mobile devices, implement and evaluate a working system.

Adaptive rendering of celestial bodies in WebGL

Zeitler, Jonas January 2015 (has links)
This report covers theory and comparison of techniques for rendering massive scale 3D geospa- tial planet data in a web browser. It also presents implementation details of a few of these tech- niques in WebGL and Javascript, using the Three.js [1] 3D library. The thesis project is part of the implementation of Unitea, a web based education platform for interactive astronomy visualizations. Unitea is a derivative of Uniview, which is a fulldome interactive simulation of the universe. A major part of this thesis is dedicated to the implementa- tion of Hierarchical Level of Detail (HLOD) modules for Three.js based on the theory presented by T. Ulrich [2] and later generalized by Cozzi and Ring [3]. HLOD techniques are dynamic level of detail algorithms that represent the surface of objects as accurately as possible from a certain viewing angle. By using space partitioning tree-structures, view based error metrics and culling techniques detailed representations of the objects (in this case planets) can be efficiently rendered in real-time. The modules developed provide a general-purpose library for rendering planets (or other spher- ical objects) with dynamic level of detail in Three.js. The library also features connections to online web map services (WMS) and tile services.

Analýza frameworků pro vývoj multiplatformních mobilních aplikací využívající HTML technologie / Analysis framework for developing cross-platform mobile applications using HTML technology.

Voldřich, Martin January 2014 (has links)
The aim of the master thesis is to assess frameworks that are used for development of multiplatform cell phone applications supported by HTML technology. The theoretical part is focused to current market analysis, mobile access issues and the issue of difficulties in specific cases of their application. Analysis is followed by choice of evaluation criteria for setting the most appropriate architecture. Selected evaluation criteria will be used as a tool for detecting of the optimal technology's possibility, which is the most appropriate possibility for development of basic cell phones applications. The practical part is focused to choosing of new evaluation criteria, which helps to create specific questionnaire research. The confirmation or refuse of the hypothesis set up the level of criteria's severity. Based on criteria there will be selected and analysed six of the most used hybrid frameworks. Two of the frameworks with the highest ratings will be tested by real basic cell phone application. The conclusion of the thesis will be follow up by tested frameworks. The frameworks will be described and measured by the author's development experiences.

Moderní Java frameworky pro front-end webových aplikací / Modern Java frameworks for front-end of web applications

Jahoda, Lukáš January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is the analysis of selected frameworks for the development of modern web applications on the Java platform focusing on the front-end. The work is complemented by well-chosen source code examples that help the reader to create one's own view of the frameworks and it can also server as a tutorial. Introductory section focuses on the trends of modern web applications, especially on the front-end. It affects themes such as support for mobile devices, AJAX or responsive design of user interface. There are also introduced the latest technology on the front-end including HTML5, CSS3, jQuery library and dynamic language LESS whose main objective is the simplification, shortening and making cascading style sheets more dynamic. The output of this section: General LESS template is freely available and it can be applied to emerging projects. For the analysis there has been created static registration form on which there are applied frameworks Apache Wicket and Spring MVC with template engine Freemarker. In terms of analysis were chosen following points: the basic structure of the project, the application of static templates, external JavaScript / jQuery library, internalization, application of the form, submitting the form and validation of the input fields. The points were discussed in detail, especially in terms of implementation of both analysed frameworks. The outputs of the analysis are freely available structures of the projects and both of the resulting applications.
