Pacheco, Mirela Magnani 10 March 2011 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The present work investigates the relevance of the Parnaso Lusitano (1826), written by the portuguese author, named Almeida Garrett (1799-1854), in the construction process of the first Brazilian literary canon, proposing an analysis of the way his critique has been (re) appropriated by other eighteenth century literary anthologies, as well as the Brazilian literary historiography, serving as theorical basis for the scholar use of this literature, and contributing to the invention of the Arcadianism in its historiography. Thus, aiming at the objectives presented, besides the legislation related to literature teaching in each period, some eighteenth century anthologies, florilegiums, as well as other anthologic writings published between 1830 and 1860 various theoretical sources have been used as a reference, such as: literary theory (WILLIAMS, 1958; EAGLETON, 1983; CULLER, 1999; BLOOM, 1994; KHOTE, 1997), literary history (CARPEAUX, 1959; CÉSAR, 1978; ROUANET, 1991; SOUZA, 1999, 2007; ABREU, 2003; TEIXEIRA, 1999; WEBER, 1997; ZILBERMAN, 1994, 1997; ZILBERMAN e MOREIRA, 1998); cultural history (ANDERSON, 2008; RENAN, 2008; HALL, 2005;) and history of school subjetcs (CHERVEL, 1990; HÉBRARD, 1999; OLIVEIRA, 2004, 2008, 2010).

The purpose of this thesis was to reflect about the romance¿s consecration process along the XIXth century in Brazil. We ascertained that this kind of literature wasn¿t a priori included in the national literary patrimony, but contrariwise, was the result of a lengthy and complex process of historical construction, once the romance was absent in the firsts anthologies, which project were ground the national literature, published between 1830 and 1850 decades. Therefore, we searched the critical discourses about the romance, under editorial forms which was a capacity of consecration, like that appointed to scholar system (literary histories, literature courses, anthologies and rhetoric treatises), and the periodical press, where this kind of literature was object of critical discourses¿ attention / Doutorado / Historia e Historiografia Literaria / Doutor em Teoria e História Literária

[fr] DES FLEURS D ANTAN: LES ANTHOLOGIES DU XIXE. SIÈCLE ET LA CONSTRUCTION DU PASSÉ LITTÉRAIRE / [pt] FLORES DE ANTANHO: AS ANTOLOGIAS OITOCENTISTAS E A CONSTRUÇÃO DO PASSADO LITERÁRIO

JANAINA GUIMARAES DE SENNA 27 November 2006 (has links)

Tennyson and the revision of song

Sullivan, Michael Joseph Plygawko January 2017 (has links)
Writing in the 1890s, in an early account of Tennyson’s poetry, the Victorian anthologist F. T. Palgrave was keen to maintain the myth of the spontaneous singer. ‘More than once’, he recorded, Tennyson’s ‘poems sprang’ from a ‘nucleus’, ‘a brief melodious phrase’ or ‘song’, which, if not transcribed immediately, ‘fled from him irrecoverably’. It has long been the case with poets of ‘lyrics’ and ‘songs’ that their skills have been depicted as improvisatory, fleeting, or inspired. Their skills have been understood, variously, as indicative either of the most dexterous of intellects, or of brilliant but uncontrolled visions, a ‘flash’ of prophetic insight or revelation – a feel of what Shelley likens to ‘the interpenetration of a diviner nature through our own’. For many poets, however, the reality is one of inspiration that gives birth to intense manuscript activity and revision. It is now well known that Tennyson revised and re-revised, even after publication, until only weeks before his death; and yet no book-length study has pursued the significance of his manuscript revisions for the development of his style. This thesis traces the poet’s stylistic evolution through his notebooks, drafts, and printed volumes. Uncovering new literary manuscripts from Harvard, Lincoln, Cambridge, and New York, the study offers a more comprehensive picture of the poet’s craft: one alert to his evolving ambitions, and to the immense shifts that he effected in the landscape of English verse. The thesis begins by excavating how the notion of poetic ‘song’ fuelled a creative process at the heart of Tennyson’s revisions. In tracing the diverging fates of ‘lyric’ and ‘song’ across his notebooks, the opening chapter restores an important discourse for Tennysonian sonority that has comparatively declined in recent years. Chapter II examines Tennyson’s aesthetic control over the Victorian lyrical canon, drawing on a new manuscript of ‘The Golden Treasury’, the most significant anthology of the nineteenth century. Chapter III studies the notebook containing Tennyson’s first collection of verse, ‘Poems, by Two Brothers’. It reveals how much of the poor punctuation that sparked vehement attacks – and which is reproduced in modern editions – was not, in fact, inserted by the poet. Chapter IV explores how Tennyson’s most famous early songs and lyrics, published in ‘Poems, Chiefly Lyrical’, developed in tandem with his blank verse style. Chapters V and VI illuminate Tennyson’s ‘ten year silence’, which witnessed profound innovations in form, the revision of his 1832 Poems into his celebrated collection of 1842, and the creation of ‘In Memoriam’. Chapters VII and VIII piece together the notebooks, proofs, drafts, and revision copies of ‘The Princess’, Tennyson’s medley of songs and voices, lyrics and blank verse. By its end, the study reveals how the ringing qualities of his works emerged through manuscript revision: in the interplay between sonorous forms and narratives that came, over decades of change, to shape the distinctive drama of Tennyson’s style.

This research focus on the discursive study of reading the literary genre known as chronicles -- their memories and operations - in two materialities. It attempts to understand the written form functioning of chronicles adapted from texts published in anthologies and presented on television, cinema and the internet -- i.e., works collected both into anthologies and audiovisuals. A comparative study of the discursive macrostructure of two, multi author chronicles anthologies was made using publications that were recently launched in Brazil (2005). They are: As Cem Melhores Crônicas Brasileiras (The One Hundred Best Brazilian Chronicles) - organized by Joaquim Ferreira dos Santos and published by Editora Objetiva; and Antologia de Crônicas: Crônica Brasileira Contemporânea (Anthology of Chronicles: Brazilian Contemporary Chronicles) - organized and introduced by Manuel da Costa Pinto, published by Salamandra. By examining the selection of authors in both publications, they were found to contain four of the same: Carlos Heitor Cony, Ignácio Loyola Brandão, Luis Fernando Verissimo and Mario Prata. It was also observed that two of these, Prata and Veríssimo, had more of their chronicles adapted into audiovisuals. The research attempted to build a corpus in order to make possible the analysis of how the transfer of meanings between one materiality and the other is achieved. These meanings are in motion and are re-inscribed in other media for different readers, i.e., for telereaders who interpret the text of the image. Under investigation was the manner in which the text changes materiality and is resignified in this new con/text as a result of the imbrication between the verbal and the image text layers. Thus, it is not enough to describe an image, but also to interpret it as text. After questioning the notion of adapting and finding a rational to explain why it is still used in certain moments, it was observed that for the process of creating an audiovisual version it is critical to analyze the conditions of production and the discursive operation of the enunciative positions, of acting and the text of the image. The study, therefore, attempts to demonstrate how a audiovisual chronicle requires a different form of reading. The adapter interprets the imaginary scene in the source chronicle to perform it in the audiovisual chronicle, a movement called transfiguration. In this interpretation and production action the discursive resonances of the genre are crucial to maintaining the correlation to the source work. Finally, the development of guidelines for teaching reading and textual practices in media courses is proposed through the implementation of the intercultural / discursive proposal developed by Serrani (2010) with the aim of training media workers who take culture as the pivotal element for comprehending languages and discourses / Doutorado / Multiculturalismo, Plurilinguismo e Educação Bilingue / Doutor em Linguística Aplicada

Shakespeare or Schiefauer? : Mechanisms behind canon creation in Swedish subject for grades 7–9 and upper secondary school.

Widman, Camilla Villemo January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this work is to study the, more or less conscious, canon of literature that is created through teachers' choice of literature in teaching within the Swedish subject for grades 7–9 and upper secondary school. In order to achieve the purpose, a survey was conducted as a basis for teaching aids and anthology analysis of the works mentioned by the Swedish teachers in the survey. The study shows that the Swedish teachers' text choices are influenced by various factors such as teaching aids, anthologies, accessibility, colleagues, the internet and their own experiences and knowledge. Teaching aids writers and anthology editors have a great power over the Swedish subject and literature teaching as their choices and preferences then result in a text choice used in Swedish schools. In addition, the study suggests that teachers contribute to creating an informal classroom canon through the fiction works selected and not included in anthologies or teaching aids.

Truchon, Annie. 11 June 2021 (has links)

Jahrhunderts

Jacob, Marianne 03 July 2003 (has links)
The research on the field of German literary history has today at its disposal an efficient system for current and cumulative informations. This existing network is a result of the evolution in the scientific efforts during the past hundred years and is reflecting this branch´s height at any time. The study´s intention is to lay open the early advances and steps on the field of German 19th century literature from ist beginning by individual pioneers until the first organized information system in partnership. Part 1 represents the results of anthologies provided with biographical details about the authors, pt. 2 represents bibliographical indexes compiled for various aims, pt. 3 represents contemporary author dictionaries in chronological order. A last part contains programms of encyclopadies created by Karl Goedeke, from his antological experiments with his printed highlight "Grundriss zur Geschichte der deutschen Dichtung". The productive elements of these four varieties are the fundament of the literary information continuations.
