Autorská kniha / Artist´s book

As a theme of my diploma thesis I have choosen an Artis´t book.I have choosen this subject becouse of different reasons. One of these is that this vast theme has not properly inguired yet. My work is devided into three parts. Theoretical, applied and practical. In the first part I try to define the vast phenomenon of artis´t book itself. I have choosen the art-historical point of view. Furthermore I wrote abaut how this subject has developed in course of time. I have faund some key artists for whome the artist book was and is still the main subject. In the applied part of my diploma thesis I look at the difficulties which could occured in the course of the making this kind of book. So I write abaut graphic technics and so on. The third part-actually the main part is the object of artis´t book itself. I have choosen poems inspired by landscape, which I accompained by abstract motives inspired by poems. The photographical document of my work is in theoretcal part as a suplement.

The basis for the practical part of this thesis is figure and work, namely ?The Day of the Triffids? by John Wyndham, as well as meaning and place of science fiction in the world of art. The practical part consists of set of illustrations, a cover design and a typographical solution of the book ?The Day of the Triffids? The aim of this work was to create a book, which could be classified as valuable literature, not only by its contents, but by its appearance as well.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / In this thesis I present my poetic trajectory in two years linked to Todos os nomes (SARAMAGO, 1997), novel which addresses weavings of political issues between the problematizations of the subjects and their inventive powers. The art courses are beyond the comprehension of bureaucracies, here I present my current idea of art reflected in poetic actions experiencing artist books, objects, texts, illustrations, records, happenings and performances. This work is a narrative of intertext between the investigation of the character José and mine. Why be an artist? From this story, I investigated art as a form of re-creation of realities, not without dominions, but finding possible deviations. As theoretical contribution of this research I used: Hutcheon (1991) and Bourriaud (2009) about the postmodern poetic strategies; also Foucault (1998, 2011) to weave relations between the content of this narrative and reflections about power, hierarchies and speeches; besides, Silveira (2001) and Gonzalez (2013) to clarify about the artist book. / A presente dissertação de mestrado refere-se a uma pesquisa em Poéticas Visuais / Arte e Visualidade. Nesta, apresento minha trajetória poética ao longo de dois anos vinculada a Todos os Nomes (SARAMAGO, 1997), romance que me endereçou a uma tecedura de questões políticas acerca das potências inventivas dos sujeitos, e a partir do qual, construí ações poéticas experimentando livros de artista, objetos, textos, ilustrações, registros, happenings e performances. Este trabalho trata de um intertexto narrativo entre as buscas inventivas do personagem Sr. José e as minhas. Por que ser artista? A partir deste romance, investigo a arte como uma forma de recriação das realidades, não isenta de dominações, mas encontrando desvios possíveis. Como aporte teórico desta pesquisa utilizo: Hutcheon (1991) e Bourriaud (2009) sobre as estratégias poéticas pós-modernas; também Foucault (1998, 2011) para tecer relações entre os conteúdos desta narrativa e reflexões sobre poder, hierarquias e discursos; além de, Silveira (2001) e González (2013) para esclarecer os conceitos de livro de artista.

Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul / The present Dissertation approaches a study about the artistic construction from the rescue of childhood memories. Its corpus concerns an autobiographic research, which have sought for elements from the long-term memory along with photographs and personal belongs stocked by the artist, enabling a reflection about mechanisms, restlessness and personal reflections in the face of the contemporary art practice. It is presented the poetic construction from artist s books and object books. Mentions about the metal engraving technical procedures are present in this study, since they are an active part of the process of building autobiographical elements from childhood memories. It was created ten works from this research, which were divided in: a unique work (artist s book) called Memory s album and other four series (artists book and object-books). They are: Ways, White Clouds in a Reddish Sky, The Hallway s Corner e The Toy Room. / A presente Dissertação aborda a construção artística a partir do recordar as memórias de infância. Trata-se de uma pesquisa autobiográfica que buscou elementos da memória de longo prazo em conjunção a fotografias e objetos pessoais guardados pela artista, de forma que possibilitassem refletir sobre os mecanismos, inquietações, e reflexões pessoais diante da prática artística contemporânea. Neste sentido, apresento a construção poética desenvolvida a partir de livros de artista e livros-objeto. Também faço menção aos procedimentos técnicos da gravura em metal, já que estes fazem parte ativa deste processo de construção de elementos autobiográficos reelaborados a partir de recordações de infância. Foram criados dez trabalhos a partir desta pesquisa, divididos em: um trabalho único (livro de artista) denominado Álbum de memórias e outras quatro séries (livros de artistas e livros-objeto), sendo elas: Caminhos, As nuvens brancas num céu rosado, O canto do corredor e O quartinho de brinquedo.

The Process Critique articulated by Cecilia Salles, based on Charles Sanders Peirce s semiotics, acts as theoretical device in guiding the organization of possible artistic references to the object of study, the creation of a brief survey of the production of artist s book in Brazil, the process of interview-dialogue with artists, and the elaboration of the eleven fields of operation in the creation of the artist s book. The object of study is discussed as signifying process (semiosis), i.e., as a continuous, unfinished, non-linear, inferential process, one that is open to chance e to the introduction of new ideas to be tested and transformed (or not) in possibilities of works of art and whose trajectory is maked by communicative questions throughout. The methodology consists of theoretical revision and interviews with artists about the creation of their work, which served as a major source of information in the deeper understanding of the various deployments in the creation of an artist s book. The contexts in the creation of the works are also discussed, including the inter-relations between certain works, the media, the references, the transformations of the raw material, the creative tendencies, the artist s perception of space, time, and memory, the forms of appropriation, and the use of language. The research aims at establishing possibilities to reposition rigid conceptualizations of the artist s book, and open new ways in which to understand its complex networks of creation, where multiple forms of language flow and interact / A presente Dissertação de Mestrado aborda os aspectos comunicacionais, plásticos e simbólicos dos processos de construção do livro de artista, considerado como uma manifestação artística híbrida e com dificuldades de conceituação, tendo como relevância buscar atenuar a grave lacuna que existe sobre os estudos a respeito desse objeto e a sua ausência no debate contemporâneo. A Crítica de Processo proposta por Cecilia Salles, com base na Semiótica de Charles Sanders Peirce, serviu como estratégia teórica para orientar a organização de possíveis referências artísticas do objeto de estudo, envolvendo obras e artistas que utilizaram o ambiente do livro códex e um levantamento bibliográfico; para elaborar um breve panorama da produção de livro de artista, no Brasil; para conduzir as entrevistas-conversas com os artistas pesquisados e a reativação de suas redes de criação; e para elaborar onze campos de procedimentos de criação do livro de artista. O objeto de estudo foi discutido como um processo sígnico (semiose), ou seja, como um movimento contínuo, falível, inacabado, não-linear, inferencial, com tendência, que admite o acaso e a introdução de novas idéias a serem testadas e transformadas (ou não) em possibilidades de obras e que é fortemente marcado em toda a sua trajetória por questões comunicativas. A metodologia consistiu de pesquisa bibliográfica e entrevistas com os artistas sobre as tramas de criação das obras, que serviram como uma das principais fontes de informação para o entendimento mais profundo sobre os procedimentos de criação do livro de artista. Foram discutidos os contextos de construção das obras, envolvendo as inter-relações com as demais obras do artista, com os suportes utilizados, as referências, as transformações da matéria-prima, as tendências criativas, as percepções do artista sobre espaço, tempo e memória, as formas de apropriação e o uso de linguagens. Com isso, a pesquisa tentou estabelecer possibilidades para reposicionar as rígidas propostas de conceituação do livro de artista e abrir caminhos para entender sua complexa rede de criação, na qual fluem e interagem múltiplas linguagens e que sustenta a personalidade do livro de artista
