Me TooBolin, Nici January 2021 (has links)
One of the major debates in Swedish politics today is violence in close relationships and against women and children. The debate has grown stronger since 2017 when Me Too revolutionized the world. This study is analyzed from a structural perspective, where Me Too is a social movement and whether it has influenced or somehow changed the criminal policy of Vänsterpartiet and Moderaterna. The focus will lay on sexual crimes. The study intends to analyze the parties' criminal policy with a focus on sexual crime issues between the years 2013 to 2020 to see if Me Too after 2017 has created change. For this study, selected motions have been taken from the parliament website and presented in an analysis. That material also accounts for the central parts of this study. As a theory for this thesis, the structure and actor model will apply. Here, Me Too stands as structure and the parties as actors. With the help of the model, the outcome of the policy should be studied over time. The structure and actors model is applied in the results in the analysis of the parties' motions. The study will seek answers to two questions. These two are, What are the similarities and differences between the criminal policy of Vänsterpartiet and Moderaterna when it comes to sexual crimes. As a concluding discussion question, the study tries to develop whether the social movement Me Too has made any impact on the parties' criminal policy regarding sexual crimes. The conclusion of this study is that the parties differ as Vänsterpartiet is based on a feminist ideology and wants to see old norms and social structures in the form of patriarchy broken. Moderates including the debate as an integration problem. They both agree that Me Too has created change for women both in Sweden and worldwide and helped direct the spotlight on this societal problem. /

Penalty Enhancement Laws and the Reporting of Patient Assaults on Emergency Department NursesRunkle, Thomas 01 January 2016 (has links)
Assaults on emergency department nurses by patients are higher than any other occupation in the private sector. Professional nursing organizations have lobbied for penalty enhancement laws that increase the categorization of assaulting a nurse on duty from a misdemeanor to a felony. As of 2015, 32 states have implemented these laws. Yet, low assault reporting rates by nurses remains a problem, and little is known about whether penalty enhancements improved reporting rates. The purpose of this correlational study was to evaluate the impact of penalty enhancement laws on self-reporting of assault on emergency department nurses in 6 Mid-Atlantic cities. Constructs from organizational culture theory and rational choice theory were tested to determine if actions taken by nurses after assaults were influenced by the organizational culture within the hospital, by the rational choice actions of the individual nurse, or both. Data were obtained through online surveys of 107 emergency department nurses. Data included demographic information, workplace violence experiences, individual actions, and institutional actions. These data were analyzed using multiple regression. Findings indicate that rational choice actions were a significant predictor of nurse reporting behaviors of patient assaults (p <.001). Organizational practices, age, gender, and state penalty enhancement laws were not significant predictors of nurse reporting behaviors of patient assaults. Implications for social change include the development of policies and strategies to improve reporting of assaults in emergency departments. In addition, results may be used to increase awareness of policymakers on the perceived effects of penalty enhancement laws on emergency department nurses.

A whole set of specific rules has been recorded about sexual assaults and minor's sexual abuses, in the light of two different laws. The first one is dated December 23rd 1980 and redefined the crime of rape. The second one dates back to June 17th 1998 and refers to the prevention and repression of sexual offences as well as to minors' protection. Until today, neither sexual assaults nor sexual abuses have been studied thoroughlly, except for sexual offences or sexual and violent offences committed on minors. Considering the particular penal sentence that both of these categories of incrimations raise, it seemed interesting to carry out a synthetic approach. The following work aims at studying the persistence of these rules which appear to be specific. From a legislative and judicial point of view, the global analysis of these rules showed that this movement of specifity did not last and even moved away from its first objectives which were protecting the victim and preventing from a second offence; the latter being balanced between surveillance and rehabilitation. The initially specific nature of these rules have to be put into perspective regarding the penal understanding of these facts and their penal sanction.
