Martín Quintanal, Ruymán 28 July 2023 (has links)
The man with the Golden arm. The cobweb, Doctor Faustus i The man with the Golden arm. / [EN] This paper will focus on the relationship between the narrative strategies of atonal music in the opera of the Viennesse School and the cinema of the second half of the twentieth Century. By using a sample of the information transmitted in the musical uses of each dramatic genre, an audiovisual and comparative analysis will be made, based on the operas Erwartung, Wozzeck, Lulú and Moses und Aron and the films Force of evil, The cobweb, Doctor Faustus and The man with the Golden arm. The purpose of this analysis is to show the different ways in which musical narrativity is established as part of the historical course of the past century, as well as to define the way in which their dramatic possibilities and limitations affect cinema and opera. / Martín Quintanal, R. Scriabin: A New Theory of Harmony and Structure

McVay, Michael (Michael Jones) 12 1900 (has links)
The thesis speculates upon the source of Scriabin's pitch selection in several of his atonal works, concluding that Scriabin's "principle" stems from his own "mystic chord," its inversion at the major third, and the transposition of these two chords at the tritone. These four chords share the same invariant harmonic basis, Scriabin's characteristic French-sixth sonority. The quartet of chords combine to form two nine-note scales, each containing as a subset the octatonic scale. The thesis demonstrates how Scriabin composed his works in harmonic blocks, utilizing only the notes from these scales. The thesis traces Scriabin's atonal style back to his tonal period. His fascination with tritone adjacencies and relationships is discussed, and serves to support the theory. Other harmonic and linear theories are discussed. Also, the thesis shows how Scriabin used these scales structurally in his works.

Den moderna sångaren : En musikalisk instuderingsprocess i 1900-talets fritonalitet

Vahtras, Ella January 2023 (has links)
Verk: Sex sånger om ljus och mörker

Kompositör: Carin Malmlöf-Forssling

Medverkande: Ella Vahtras - sopran, Elektra Oikonomi - piano

Organická kompozice v abstraktním malířství, literatuře a hudbě 20. století / Organic Composition in 20th century abstract art, music and literature

Mücková, Kristýna January 2010 (has links)
The Diploma thesis Organic composition in 20th century abstract Art, Music and Literature aims to explain the gradual process of liberalization of expressive means in Arts, Music and Literature during the 20th century. It describes the picture's emancipation from the dependence on objective reality, particularly V. Kandinsky's way towards abstract expressionism. In Music it traces A. Schonberg's development of the free atonality, and the stream of consciousness technique of J. Joyce in literature. The thesis' second part will be dealing with various manifestations of the organic composition after WWII- action and informal painting in the USA and Europe with its qualitative change. A musical and literal paralel to the principal of organic order will also be briefly introduced on the example of E. Brown's and J. Cage's aleatoric music and the spontaneous writing of J. Kerouac. Selected artistic personalities will be put into socio-cultural context of their time. As a result there comes a complex picture of the organic composition development process, suitable to be used as a source of information for teachers. The didactical part of the thesis will be focused on the possibility of using the given topic in the educational environment.
