Ferramentas para modelagem e monitoramento de características de qualidade do tipo fração / Tools for modelling and monitoring of the type fraction quality characteristics

Sant'Anna, Ângelo Márcio Oliveira January 2009 (has links)
This thesis presents the modeling and monitoring of the type fraction quality characteristics, which have values confined in the [0,1]-interval. The main motivation is that the type fraction quality characteristics can be better approximated by the Beta probability distribution and generally used for modeling and monitoring not assumes this distribution. Thus, the objectives are: (i) propose a systematic for selecting parametric models considering the classification of the response and explanatory variables; (ii) propose a modeling of the fraction nonconforming items using the Beta regression model and generalized linear model; (iii) propose a new control chart (CC), Beta Charts, to monitor the type fraction quality characteristics (p), with adaptation of the control limits based in the Beta distribution; (iv) propose a Beta model-based to monitor the type fraction quality characteristics adjusted by control variables of the process, and (v) propose a Beta model-based control charts by principal components to monitor the type fraction quality characteristics adjusted by control variables multicollinearity. The proposed control charts were evaluated by application of case studies, numeric examples taken from literature and comparison the average run length (ARL) using Monte Carlo simulation. The proposed regression models for modeling of the type fraction quality characteristics have shown flexibility to choose link function, good performance on the fit and accuracy of estimates of the effects. The proposed control charts detected more quickly all changes induced, showing better performance compared to other similar control charts defined in literature. It is concludes that the proposed tools are appropriate for modeling and monitoring of the type fraction quality characteristics.

Mapeamento geotécnico da porção média da bacia do rio Capivari/SP, escala 1:50.000: estudo e caracterização dos aspectos físicos de bacias hidrográficas / Geotechnical mapping of the medium Capivari basin, 1:50.000 scale: study and physical aspects characterization of drainage basins

Lima, Aline Maria Meiguins de 03 April 2000 (has links)
This research consists of the geotechnical mapping of the medium Capivari Basin. It was developed according to the adopted methodology at EESC/USP (Escola de Engenharia de São Carlos) compatible with the 1:50.000 scale requirements. This work realized a study about the geotechnical characteristics of the medium Capivari basin and summarizes the physical drainage network studies and the principals geotechnical mapping methodologies. The geographical informalion systems (IDRISI prograrn) was used in the treatment of cartographic products and physical attributes analysis. In this work was produced eleven cartographic products classified in two groups: basic documents and interpretative documents. In general the medium Capivari basin is represented for the Itararé Formation and Serra Geral Formation. The relief, the drainage network and the characteristics of the weathering profiles are the main responsible for the behavior of the superficial flow, of the infiltration potential and of the erosion susceptibility, observed in the area.

Assessing the influence of external environment factors on higher education sector through means-end theory of decision making : the case of Bahrain

Ali Mohamed Mahmood January 2018 (has links)
Higher education domain has a direct impact on individuals and society in general and particularly regarding the socio-economic status and economic growth of any individual or a country. Despite recent changes in job market orientation for hiring employees without higher education degrees, higher education sector is required globally to provide training, knowledge and skill to achieve the globally stated goal of attaining economic growth and sustainable human development. This research focuses on the importance of higher education to primary beneficiaries (student, parents, and higher education institutions personals), explores defined goal of higher education, and assess the effect of external environmental factors that influence higher education sector sampling Bahrain public higher education in a single case study. Through an exploratory qualitative research, the researcher used a case study approach with semi-structured interviews to assess different beneficiaries' views of the importance of higher education to bridge the gap between different perspectives on shaping the goal of higher education. An abductive approach was followed to conduct this research as this topic requires both observing the research topic as well as qualifying an established theory. This approach allowed the researcher to gain new insights to understand the relationship between the environmental factors and higher education goal. The research assesses the factors influencing higher education to be utilised as moderator to develop a conceptual framework based on Means-end theory of decision-making combined with the dynamics of OODA Loop (Observe, Orient, Decide, and Act) model of decision-making. Key findings of the pilot study conducted in one of Bahrain's public higher education institutions (HEIs) and another case study on one of the leading higher education institutions in Bahrain revealed a gap between higher education beneficiaries' perspectives on higher education and demonstrated the importance of the revision of the overall structure and implementation of policies concerning higher education sector in Bahrain. Empirical findings highlighted some main areas where there is a huge gap between what is planned and implemented. Through comparing results of previous studies, the researcher concluded that each environment has its own effect on higher education goal definition which in turn affect the attainment of higher education benefits and the definition of its attributes.

Vertical Examination of Reading Environment and Student Engagement in 1st-3rd Grade Classrooms

Reed, Lauren 01 May 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between instructional environment and student engagement during reading instruction. Environment is composed of three key elements: teacher attributes, instructional methods, and the physical classroom setting (Blair, Rupley, & Nichols, 2007; De Naeghel, Van Keer, Vansteenkiste, & Rosseel, 2012; Guthrie, Hoa, Wigfield, Tonks, & Perencevich, 2006; Housand & Reis, 2008). This study examined a first, second, and third grade classroom in one East Tennessee school. Qualitative data was collected using a combination of instructional observation and teacher interviews in order to examine existing practices for successfully engaging young readers. Teachers for each of the classrooms were interviewed; following the interview, each teacher’s classroom was observed three times to examine the teacher’s attributes and most frequently used instructional methods, the physical classroom setting, and the expressed level of engagement of the student body in the classroom. The findings indicate that environment in terms of teacher attributes, instructional methods, and physical classroom setting affects student reading engagement; classrooms with high levels of organization, novel reading areas, and opportunity for students to select reading material were found particularly effective for reading engagement.

An Exploratory Study of Attributes, Affordances, Abilities, and Distance in Children's Use of Mathematics Virtual Manipulative iPad Apps

Tucker, Stephen I. 01 May 2015 (has links)
This exploratory qualitative study investigated the presence of and relationships among constructs that contribute to children's interactions with educational technology, leading to the development of the modification of attributes, affordances, abilities, and distance (MAAAD) for Learning framework. For this study, each of 10 fifth-grade children participated in one individual video-recorded semistructured interview session, during which they interacted with two mathematics virtual manipulative iPad apps and responded to follow-up questions. Video recordings and observation field notes were analyzed for evidence of attributes, affordance-ability relationships, distance, and relationships among these constructs. Constant comparative data analysis using memoing and eclectic coding provided evidence of the presence of each focus construct. Further analysis and interpretation, including quantization of qualitative data for visualization using novel rhombus plots, also led to the identification of emergent themes related to each construct and revealed relationships among the constructs. Emergent themes included categorization, alignment, and modification of attributes, variations and interrelationships among affordance-ability relationships, and the identification of and interactions among mathematical and technological distance. Furthermore, each construct related to each other construct. The evidence and interpretations led to the development of the MAAAD for Learning framework. The results of the study suggest that the MAAAD for Learning framework models relationships among attributes, affordance-ability relationships, and distance in the context of user-app interactions. the framework could serve as a tool for app developers designing apps, educators using apps to support children's learning, and researchers characterizing user-app interactions and the outcomes of those interactions. The constructs, relationships, and framework identified in this study advance the literature on children's interactions with educational technology tools, in particular literature concerning children's interactions with mathematics virtual manipulative iPad apps.

VENUE MANAGERS AND MEETING PLANNERS: A COMBINED PERSPECTIVE OF THEIR ROLES, RELATIONSHIPS, AND ATTRIBUTES NECESSARY FOR HOSTING A SUCCESSFUL MEETING

Adu, Maame Afua Offeibea 01 January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this research was to gain the perspectives of venue managers and meeting planners on their roles in the meetings industry, their relationship with each other and attributes needed to host a successful meeting. An online survey was conducted involving these two stakeholders to define their roles, assess the strength of their relationship and identify attributes based on their experience with working together and hosting meetings. Results showed that venue managers and meeting planners are essential to the hosting of successful meetings. It also indicated that venue managers are willing to build and maintain stronger relationships with meeting planners and brought to light some attributes such as communication skills, responsiveness and self-competence, which when improved upon, could help achieve this. The study also presents a theoretical model of how stakeholder co-creation activities can drive more successful meetings.

Examining K-12 Teachers' Affective Job Satisfaction and Perceptions of Blended Instruction

Hiett, Michael 01 January 2017 (has links)
The increasing use of blended models of instruction within the U.S. public school system is transforming the K-12 education. However, few studies have been conducted of the innovation-adoption process involving blended instruction within the K-12 public school sector. In this nonexperimental, quantitative study, Rogers's five perceived attributes of innovations was used as a theoretical lens to explore how teachers' affective job satisfaction might affect the innovation-adoption process at the individual level. Research questions pertained to the relationship, if any, between affective job satisfaction among teachers and their perceptions of the complexity, compatibility, and relative advantage of blended instruction. Surveys were administered to middle school teachers (n = 40) in the core curriculum within southeastern U.S. schools. Data were analyzed for relationships using Spearman's correlation; relationships found to have statistical significance were further explored using ordinal logistic regression. Affective job satisfaction had a moderately positive and statistically significant relationship with how participants perceived the compatibility and relative advantage of blended instruction (rs = .487). However, the relationship was inconsistent among subgroups, varying from rs = .181 (n = 13) to rs = .693 (n = 10). Findings could be used to promote positive social change by providing insight into the role of affective job satisfaction within the innovation-adoption process within the K-12 sector.

Coexistence and collaboration between different retail agglomerations

Nilsson, Märtha, Salih, Darien January 2019 (has links)
During the past decades, the establishment of external shopping centers have been increasing, causing debates on how they affect the viability and vitality of city centers. Instead of studying them as individual actors that are in competition with each other, it is interesting to examine them as components that together make cities complete trading destinations.  The purpose of this thesis is to study the coexistence and collaboration between different retail agglomerations. Retail agglomeration attributes are implemented to distinguish existing strengths and weaknesses for each trading venue, in order to identify where they complement each other. The research method is qualitative with an abductive approach. Six semi-structured interviews were conducted with respondents who represent different associations.  The findings of the research revealed that city centers and external shopping establishments are able to coexist if they complement each other through their individual offerings and experiences. Different retail agglomerations attract contrasting customer groups, allowing them to coexist. Collaboration between retail agglomerations can be implemented in several ways and can enhance the attractiveness of cities as trading destinations. The collaboration can occur by implementing shared marketing, shuttle bus services or collective events.  This research is limited to only investigating one medium sized city and three retail agglomeration formats. Furthermore, the choice of participants did not include consumers and store owners, which could have provided additional perspectives. The findings contribute to the study field by highlighting how retail agglomerations can coexist and collaborate and can be useful for other medium sized cities.

Evaluation of Antioxidant Effectiveness and Sensory Attributes of Chinese 5-Spice Ingredients in Cooked Ground Beef

Dwivedi, Saumya 01 May 2005 (has links)
This study determined antioxidant and sensory effects of cinnamon, cloves, fennel, pepper, and star anise (Chinese 5-spice ingredients) in cooked ground beef. In experiment 1, thiobarbituric acid (TBA) values of cooked samples were measured during refrigerated storage. In experiment 2, trained panelists evaluated cooked samples for rancid, beef, and spice flavor intensity. Total aerobic plate counts were also measured. Mean TBA values were high (3.4) for control samples. In previous studies, TBA values >1.0 were associated with unacceptably rancid cooked meats. At the lowest spice level of 0.1% of meat weight, all spices except pepper had lower TBA values than controls. Thus, the minimum effective level was 0.1% for all spices except pepper. For all spices except cloves, increasing the use level to 0.5% significantly decreased TBA values (dose-response effect). Cloves did not exhibit a dose-response effect, since all clove levels were very effective, and not different, for maintenance of TBA values In experiment 2 (sensory evaluation), there was a high positive correlation (p < 0.01) between TBA values and panel scores for rancid odor and flavor (0.83 and 0. 78, respectively). Hence, TBA values were in good agreement with sensory panel scores as a measure of oxidation during storage. Spice flavor was inversely correlated (p < 0.01) with rancid odor and flavor (-0.57 and -0.61, respectively), suggesting that spices also decreased the perception of rancid flavor in these samples. The 5-spice blends did not inhibit microbial growth of cooked samples during storage, compared to controls, perhaps due to heat inactivation or loss of antimicrobial components from the spices during cooking. In conclusion, all spices and blends had a dual effect, reducing chemical oxidation as measured by TBA values, and also imparting a distinctive flavor to cooked ground beef.
