Hilario López, Miluska Fiorella 11 September 2020 (has links)
Makeup has been with us for many centuries, it is a fundamental piece in beauty and will never go out of style. However, in recent years, no one imagined that it would gain so much importance. Its consumption began to be bigger in all continents as well as the birth of new cosmetic brands. And all of this was thanks to the makeup tutorial videos that YouTube offers. The youtubers that are part of this sector now collaborate as a new image in the sale of cosmetic products. The audiovisual content offered by these youtubers has generated a great impact on the Latin American public that if we review the consumption percentages in detail, ends in an upward forecast for the coming years. / Tesis

Sepúlveda Castillo, Enzo January 2017 (has links)

Development of semi-automatic data analysis algorithms to examine the influence of sensory stimuli on locomotion and striatal neural activities in rodent models

Zhou, Chengqian 15 May 2021 (has links)
Our brains are constantly integrating sensory and movement information as we navigate within our environment. Through millennium of evolution, human has learned to associate sensory information as cues to form motor plans. One example is that for almost all cultures, dance and music are tightly linked together an integrated form of performance and entertainment. However, it is yet unclear how our brain processes sensory information to coordinate a specific movement plan. In this Master Thesis, I investigated the brain region striatum that is known to play crucial roles in movement coordination and habit formation. To examine the effect of sensory inputs on locomotor behavior and striatal neural activities, we performed calcium imaging from the striatum of head fixed mice during voluntary locomotion. We injected AAV-syn-GCaMP7f virus into the striatum region to express the genetically encoded calcium sensor GCaMP7 in striatal neurons, and used a custom fluorescent microscope to measure intracellular calcium change from hundreds of labelled cells simultaneously. To examine how audio-visual stimulation impact movement behavior, we tracked mice’s speed using a spherical treadmill while applying sustained period of audio-visual stimulation at either 10 Hz or 145 Hz. To quantify the influence of audio-visual stimulation on different locomotion features, I developed several semi-automated algorithms in MATLAB to classify locomotion features, such as stationary periods, motion events, acceleration periods, deceleration period, and motion transitions. Furthermore, I optimized calcium imaging data processing pipelines and correlated striatal neural activity to various locomotion features. We found that audiovisual stimulation at both 10Hz and 145Hz increased locomotion, characterized as an increase in the percentage of time mice spent in motion events and a corresponding decrease in stationary period. However, only the145Hz stimulation, but not 10Hz stimulation promoted motion onset/offset transitions, and increased acceleration/deceleration probability. These results demonstrate that audiovisual stimulation can modulate locomotor activities in rodent models, and different patterns of audiovisual stimulation can selectively modulate different movement parameters. We also found that audiovisual stimulation increased the firing frequency of most responsive neurons regardless of mice’s movement state, suggesting that sensory information can further increase the excitability of some motion related striatal neurons both when the mice are moving and staying still. These results provide direct evidence that noninvasive audiovisual stimulation can modulate striatal neural activity, suggesting a basis for developing future noninvasive sensory stimulation based exercise and dance therapies for motor disorders that involve the striatum, such as Parkinson's disease. Future analysis of how audiovisual stimulation selectively modulates individual striatal neuron and striatal network during different aspects of movement will provide a more in-depth understanding of how sensory stimulation promote movement.

A Pilot Study on Subtitling Tasks and Projects for Intercultural Awareness and Queer Pedagogy

Villanueva-Jordan, Ivan, Gallardo-Echenique, Eliana 19 October 2020 (has links)
This paper presents the results of a pilot study on the use of active interlingual subtitling for intercultural awareness and queer pedagogy. The subtitling tasks and project were carried out with Ooona, an online subtitling software, and as part of an optional course on gender and sexuality at an undergraduate university program in Translation. The data collected are based on the Spanish subtitles produced by the students from audiovisual content originally in English, as well as on questionnaires and reports that they completed after subtitling. The results reveal how cloud-based subtitling software is a useful tool for students to position themselves regarding online video content online, as well as how the audiovisual representation of queer characters allows students to reflect on aspects of the gender/sex system when they must transfer linguistic content that is rooted in different socio-cultural systems.

Evaluating the influence of audiovisual unity in cross-modal temporal binding of musical stimuli

Chuen, Lorraine 11 1900 (has links)
An observer’s inference that multimodal signals come from a common underlying source can facilitate cross-modal binding in the temporal domain. This ‘unity assumption’ can cause asynchronous audiovisual speech streams to seem simultaneous (Vatakis & Spence, 2007), but follow-up work has been unable to replicate this effect for non-speech, musical events (Vatakis & Spence, 2008). Given that amplitude envelope (the changes in energy of a sound over time) has been shown to affect audiovisual integration, the current study investigates whether previous null findings with musical stimuli can be explained by the similarity in amplitude envelope between audiovisual conditions. To test whether amplitude envelope affects temporal cross-modal binding, Experiment 1 contrasted events with clearly differentiated envelopes: cello and marimba audiovisual stimuli. Participants performed an un-speeded temporal order judgments task; they viewed audio-visually matched (e.g. marimba auditory with marimba video) and mismatched (e.g. cello auditory with marimba video) versions of stimuli at various stimulus onset asynchronies and indicated which modality was presented first. As predicted, participants were less sensitive to temporal order (greater JNDs) in matched conditions, suggesting that the unity assumption facilitates synchrony perception outside of non-speech stimuli. Results from Experiments 2 and 3 revealed that when spectral information was removed, amplitude envelope alone could not facilitate the influence of audiovisual unity on temporal binding. We propose that both amplitude and spectral cues affect the percept of audiovisual ‘unity’, likely working in concert to help an observer determine the causal source of an auditory event. / Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

The Overlooked Importance of Repetition and Retention in Jewish Prayer

Groman, Akiva 01 January 2023 (has links) (PDF)
Modern methods of education pertaining to Jewish prayer services in schooling had been seen to be lacking when looking at the connection students feel while praying. Students will often be distracted or deliberately avoiding prayer since they are unaware of what is happening. The following research hopes to propose a system to increase engagement and connection by having individuals follow the prayers during the orated portions of prayer. By exposing a set of participants with limited knowledge of the Jewish prayer services to repeated exposure of reading while following along with the words, we hope to show an increase in connection and retention of the prayer to take with them to the next service they attend so they can feel a part of the community.

[en] INTERNATIONALIZATION POLICY OF THE BRAZILIAN AUDIVISUAL IN QUESTION / [pt] POLÍTICA DE INTERNACIONALIZAÇÃO DO AUDIOVISUAL BRASILEIRO EM QUESTÃO

ANDREA GOMES STELET 03 April 2020 (has links)
[en] In order to defend the relevance of an internationalization policy for the audiovisual sector within the Brazilian Federal Government, this study intends to identify the impasses and impacts of the construction of this policy, since the year 2010, and to analyze, to what extent, such internationalization policy articulates the general design of the public policy of the audiovisual sector and contributes to the development of this sector. The research - based on the analysis of the content of articles, books, interviews and official documents - identified two main impasses faced in this area in Brazil. They are: the impasse in the insufficiency of investment in internationalization, in disarray with the copious financing in film production for a potential occupation of the domestic market; and the impasse over the lack of articulation between the principles and projects of the Cultural and the Foreign Trade policies. The results allow inferring reasons why Brazil does not present a significant performance in the international trade around the audiovisual; make it possible to draw new possible explanations for the fact that the Brazilian audience remains unaware of the sustainability of the national production itself. In summary: in order to protect and promote Brazilian culture expressed in the audiovisual sector, it has become essential to integrate public policies that effectively qualify and expand the circulation of these cultural goods and services beyond Brazil, through internationalization.

THE INFLUENCE OF AUDIOVISUAL MATERIALS ON LISTENING COMPREHENSION SKILLS IN LEARNING JAPANESE AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Yamaguchi, Kei 15 July 2020 (has links) (PDF)
This paper examines whether extensive listening with the help of audiovisual materials has a positive influence on listening comprehension. Extensive listening is a method used for learning a foreign language that focuses on listening to a number of texts that can be understood by learners with higher levels of comprehension. This method requires access to tools to support the learning plan, appropriate advising, and the availability of resources. Audiovisual materials allow learners to learn verbal and nonverbal language. Therefore, the usage of these materials for extensive listening is perceived as useful. In recent years, learners have received a variety of audiovisual materials outside of class owing to the development of technology. Since extensive listeners have a higher practice in memorizing grammar, vocabulary, or phrases, this study examines the influence of audiovisual materials outside of the classroom. The study included 13 participants—five intermediate and eight elementary level students. The results did not statistically show that there is a positive influence of extensive listening using audiovisual materials on listening comprehension. However, all the participants perceived audiovisual materials to be useful for learning Japanese. These results indicate that extensive listening has a significant impact on listening skills in the field of second-language acquisition.

Transgender Identities in Postmedia Audiovisual Narratives

Koss, Kaylee Bear 09 April 2020 (has links)
[EN] Despite an increasing development of transgender studies within particular fields since the early 1990's, it has only been in the last decade or so that an explosive growth of transgender visibility has been experienced in popular culture in the West. The rapidity of progress, compared to previous social movements, is due in large part to the ubiquity of online and digital communication technologies. Access to such media has also provided production and publishing opportunities for artists, especially those identifying with marginalized, ostracized or previously overlooked demographics like the transgender community. Given the situational relationship between these technologies and trans artists, this research asks how and what a trans artist such as myself utilizes, produces or publishes as part of a multimedia creative practice, and posits that there are shared characteristics that exist between many transgender and postmedia experiences. In order to answer these research questions, this text deploys and blends both subjective and critical voices within a connective exegetical model. I analyse the new knowledge represented by the work and processes of the related creative practice through the further development and application of extant concepts of transgender phenomenology. And, ultimately, the very undertaking of this text itself is presented as an autoethnographic action and a political statement of lived experience. / Koss, KB. (2020).
