New Collective structures in the Z=76 stable odd neutron nucleus, 187Os

Sithole, Makuhane Abel January 2021 (has links)
Philosophiae Doctor - PhD / Low- and medium-spin bands of 187Os have been studied using the AFRODITE array, following the 186W(4He,3n)187Os reaction at a beam energy of 37 MeV. The measurements of γ − γ coincidences, angular distribution ratios (RAD), polarization and γ-intensities were performed using eleven High Purity Germanium (HPGe) clover detectors. In the current work, all the previously known bands have been significantly extended and five new bands have been added to the level scheme. The observed bands are interpreted within the cranked shell model (CSM), cranked Nilsson-StrutinskyBogoliubov (CNSB) formalism and Quasiparticle-plus-Triaxial-Rotor (QTR) model. Systematic comparison of bands with the neighbouring isotopes has also been made. Comparison of the models with experimental data shows good agreement. The configurations of some of the previously observed bands have been modified. Most importantly, the coupling of 2+ γ band to the 11/2+[615] neutron configuration is observed for the first time.

High-performance Monte Carlo Computations for Adhesive Bands Formation

Shah, Karim Ali January 2022 (has links)
We propose a lattice model for three stochastically interacting components that mimicsthe formation of the internal structure of adhesive bands via evaporating one component(the solvent) by thermal gradient. We use high-performance computing resources toinvestigate the formation of rubber-acrylate morphologies. We pay special attentionto the role of varying temperature as well as of the changing the solvent interaction inconnection to the shape of the obtained rubber morphologies. In the lattice model, we start with microscopic spins of three particles in the latticewith short-range interactions between them. This microscopic model is approximatednumerically via a Monte Carlo Metropolis-based algorithm. High-performancecomputing resources and Python-based implementations have been used for thenumerical simulation of the lattice model. The numerical implementation highlights theeffect of the model parameters (volatility of the Solvent, temperature, and interactionbetween the particles) on the structure of the obtained morphologies. We demonstratethat one can utilize a reasonably simple model to explain the impact of parameters onthe creation of morphology in ternary systems when one component evaporates.

The sociological aspects of the wind-band in American community life

Long, Clayton Augustus 01 January 1947 (has links) (PDF)
Comparatively little literature has been written about the wind-band as a musical institution.1 still less has been recorded regarding the integrative social potenti- alities of the wind-band in American musical life--especi- ally for the horden of "Mr. and Mrs. Average Citizen" who constitute the back-bone of our Nation's communities. Specialized and localized efforts are being made throughout the country toward making musical life a definite part of community life. General observation tends to leave us believing that strides in this direction are just beginning and that the impetus will increase.

The Development of an Elementary Class Method of Band Instruction and Theory

Ford, Benjamin D. 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to create a curriculum for beginning instrumentalists who have no background in music and are young students not yet capable of deciphering highly technical and academic sentences, phrases, and terms. This method is designed to give the student a foundation in theory without taking undue time from the instrumental phase of the curriculum and at the same time to increase the tempo of training in both phases.

Pioneer Bands and Orchestras of Salt Lake City

Cook, Martha Tingey 01 January 1960 (has links) (PDF)
Early Mormon leaders realized the value of music as an important element in spiritual and recreational activities. Consequently, they encouraged and sponsored musical groups.Three pioneer bands of Salt Lake City—the Nauvoo Brass Band, Nauvoo Legion Martial Band, and Quadrille Band—had originated during the early 1840's in Nauvoo, Illinois, under the sponsorship of Joseph Smith. They performed at all important civic and social occasions.

Application of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) to the expansion of strontium (Sr) analysis options and to used engine oil

Binzowaimil, Ayed M 06 August 2021 (has links)
Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a technique that allows quantitative and qualitative analysis of many materials. In this study, the LIBS analysis options for strontium mixture powders is expanded by increasing the number of usable strontium atomic transitions to avoid incorrect results due to spectral congestion or high strontium concentrations. The research employs double-sided tape affixed to a glass slide to hold the sample where the powder is poured onto one surface of the tape and excess dust that has not adhered is removed. This method minimizes the sample quantity needed and keeps the sample on the slide during experimentation, which also reduces costs. Herein, LIBS was used to detect and quantify the level of metal concentrations in used engine oil samples to provide valuable information about the composition of the selected material in a liquid sample. Data were obtained using multivariate analysis to develop calibration curves using LIBS spectra, which was employed for the quantification of the elements Al, Ca, Fe, Mg, and Mn. The relationship between the peak intensity of the metals in new engine oil samples and the metal concentrations in used engine oil samples were analyzed to minimize the matrix effect and the interference of element lines after which the atomic emission observed in LIBS spectra of used engine oil and new engine oil were compared. C2 molecular band emissions were also used to determine the degree of the engine oil degradation. Next, calibration models were developed for samples with high species concentrations. A partial least squares regression model was developed for calibration models to overcome matrix effect problems of some lines of each metal. This research successfully used the LIBS technique to determine the degree of engine oil degradation. This study established that used engine oil analysis using the LIBS technique can be utilized to maintain engines in good condition and to prevent engine failure. This paper presents the key findings and conclusions regarding the application of LIBS. Finally, although this technique shows many benefits and reliable results, challenges remain in terms of matrix effects, spectral pre-processing, model calibration, and instrumentation.

Андреева, С. Н., Andreeva, S. N. January 2023 (has links)
The dissertation research is devoted to the identification of the effectiveness of the application of the method of scheduled classes using fitness bands in physical education lessons with girls aged 14-15 years in order to improve physical fitness and increase motivation for physical education lessons. Studies have shown that the method of scheduled classes using fitness bands is more effective for improving physical fitness and motivation of students than traditional physical education lessons.
