Rinktis nesirinkti / Choose not to choose

Vaitkevičiūtė, Lina 03 July 2014 (has links)
This piece is about the purpose of the pursuit of the value of his reach, and about fitting into the value of adapt. The video works on the internal state of the language, when something is done just because you need to do so, because it is simply - your routine. This is a permanent "twisted" - constant repetition of absurd, day-to-day. It's also about striving to do something when that something is a dynamic thing, and doing - not.

Teorinis darbas „[Ne]pritapimas. / This piece is about the purpose of the pursuit of the value of his reach , and about fitting into the value of adapt . Learning How to Become an Effective Teacher: Creating a Space to Belong

Nemo, Nioami 01 January 2019 (has links)
Qualitative observational research, interviews, and student samples explain the complex social structure in my math classroom and my effectiveness as a teacher. The ethnographic narrative will be divided into four major sections. The major sections are Part A, Part B, Part C, and Part D. Part A discusses how my personal and professional identity affect my performance in the classroom. Part B highlights action plans that support an English learner, a student with an IEP, and a student with a significant life experience. Part C explores how the demographics of the community and school site affect my classroom environment. Lastly, Part D presents my professional reflections and professional development plan. Together, these studies suggest skills needed to be an effective teacher involve more than expertise in mathematics. Effective teachers use critical self-analysis and their students’ funds of knowledge to create an inclusive and purposeful classroom. Keywords: identity, educator, social capital, purpose, effective

Effects of Animals, Language Constraint and Sense of Belonging on Acculturative Stress

Tang, Qiuhua 01 January 2019 (has links)
The proposed study will investigate the effects of animal companionship on the acculturative stress of international students at American universities and colleges. Language constraint will be examined as a possible moderator, and sense of belonging will be examined as a possible mediator in the effects of animal companionship on acculturative stress. Participants will be international students at the Claremont Colleges. They will first fill out demographic information, a sense of belonging scale, and an acculturative stress scale online. They will then come to the lab weekly, and be randomly assigned to either hang out with their peers, or engage in animal-assisted activities with dogs for one hour. The study will last four weeks, and at the end of the study, participants will fill out the sense of belonging scale and the acculturative stress scale again online. Participants in the animal condition are expected to report greater decreases in acculturative stress than participants in the game condition. Participants who are non-native English speakers will experience greater decreases in their acculturative stress than participants who are native English speakers in the animal group. Sense of belonging will mediate the effect of interaction with animals/people on acculturative stress. The results would then suggest that animal companionship helps alleviate international students’ acculturative stress, and future college counseling programs designed for international students should consider animal-assisted activities or therapy.

A Chance for Change: The Role of Trust in Foster Care

Coleman, Michele Harryette 07 July 2000 (has links)
The Child Welfare System is faced with an increasing number of children in foster care with a decreasing number of foster homes available for placement. By interviewing adults who were former foster children, this study examines the significance of one caring adult in the life of a foster child. Erik Erikson states that in the first stage of psychosocial development a child learns trust vs. mistrust. For many children entering foster care, this first stage of development has not been achieved, given their experiences in their biological families. In order to protect themselves during this time of mistrust, children exhibit behaviors designed to keep adults at a distance. This poses a problem for foster parents who must try to develop trust with their foster children in an effort to change their behavior. What if anything can be done to help these children learn to trust? The participants were asked to focus on specific behaviors at least one caring adult demonstrated that helped them as foster children, move through their past experiences of mistrust to a place of trusting that caring adult. The concept of attachment theory provided a foundation for the study. / Master of Science

Arbetsplatsidentitet : En studie om lagerarbetares uppfattning av arbetsplatsidentitet och dess betydelse för dem i deras arbete.

Bugujevci, Djellëza, Luu, Filip January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to explore how workplace identity is perceived by warehouse workers in a Swedish wholesale company and how it affects their experience of work and wellbeing in the workplace. Furthermore, the purpose of this study is to explore how organizing work and work tasks affects workplace identity. Social media as the Cosmo Neighborhood

Agritellis, Ioannis January 2012 (has links)
The world has been transformed through the internet into a "global village",and social media platforms have possibly transformed the world into a larger neighborhood covering many regions of the world. Social networks such as Facebook and Twitter came into people’s lives through the Internet, growing daily at a large rate, and it has been proven that they are very popular. This study examines links between different phenomena through social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc.). It is discusses cohesiveness, desire to belong, sense of community, beliefs and opinions about different forms of these phenomena in popular virtual platforms in correlation with trust in social media, criticism of information that is spread by these virtual platforms, and if people are influenced in consumer decision making. A questionnaire has been distributed to a convenient sample of 159 international and Swedish students in Sweden in October-November 2012 in both English and Swedish versions. According to the peoples’ answers, tendencies were observed such as to not trust the platforms, and also the information received, beliefs such that social media are "controlled", negative critique, but also an expression for a need for ‘membership’.

Self-esteem and the relation between arousal and relationship-initiation motivation

Huang, Eric 21 December 2016 (has links)
Both physiological and emotional arousal can increase romantic attraction towards a desirable potential partner. Such attraction reflects relationship-initiation motivation, a connection motivation directed at a new partner, because attraction increases the drive to pursue a social interaction or relationship with another person. Therefore, arousal appears to influence the need to belong, the inherent motivation for positive social interactions. A large body of research also reveals that self-esteem influences people’s pursuit of belongingness, especially during relationship initiation. Yet the literature linking arousal and attraction and the research linking self-esteem and attraction have never been connected. The present research shows that self-esteem moderates how arousal influences relationship-initiation motivation. To examine the moderating effect of self-esteem on the relation between arousal and relationship-initiation motivation, I conducted three studies. Study 1 involved manipulating women’s physiological arousal in an anticipated social interaction. Results showed that arousal directly increased relationship-initiation motivation for higher self-esteem individuals (HSEs) but not lower self-esteem individuals (LSEs). Study 2 replicated Study 1 with men, showing that arousal increased relationship-initiation motivation for HSEs but not LSEs, but in this case, the effect wholly depended on men applying a positive emotional label to their arousal. Study 3 involved manipulating both men’s and women’s arousal in an imagined social interaction. For women, arousal directly decreased HSEs’ but increased LSEs’ relationship-initiation motivation, the opposite result to Study 1. For men, arousal directly increased HSEs’ but decreased LSEs’ relationship-initiation motivation, replicating the results of Study 2. My package of studies connects self-esteem and arousal research, unifying two formerly separate subject areas. These findings provide an underlying mechanism (i.e., arousal) that explains how social risk interacts with self-esteem to influence relationship-initiation motivation. Consequently, my research increases the breadth and depth of current self-esteem theories. / Graduate
