The thesis is concerned with ways in which tourists’ experiences of learning to dive are mediated by technology, equipment and cultural constructions that are projected through visual media. The empirical chapters take a different theoretical body of literature to demonstrate the extent to which mediation alters human perception. The thesis is informed by research participants who took part in an experimental visual methodology that sought to open up new ways of studying the senses. The empirical chapters cover a consideration of the phasing in and out of attention of equipmental prosthetics for learner divers, a phenomenological study of the reorganisation of the senses underwater, a Bergsonian take on the intersubjective nature of recollection upon encountering material relics at a wreck site. The construction of docile diving bodies are considered, in relation to appropriate ways of moving and thinking about the ocean’s inhabitants, before the final empirical chapter outlines the mediative role of videographic souvenirs, as they polish memories of previous experience and alter relations to place. The thesis concludes by drawing attention to the way in which understandings of underwater space are constructed before, during and after real-time perception of the ocean and its various inhabitants. Consequently, it is noted that underwater experience is both highly subjective and intertextual, being furnished by the associations and atmospheres that each learner diver brings to the encounter and being re-presented to others by means of what each diver takes away.

This thesis analyzes the connection between film and body memory. Christian Schwochow’s Novemberkind (2008), Johannes Schmid's Wintertochter (2011) and Christian Petzold's Barbara (2012) are post-unification films that represent the past through the senses of sight, sound and touch. Communicative memory conveys the past to future generations, and different material objects, such as photographs, carry the past into the future. These films offer different perspectives and generations, as well as different sense memories of the German past.

Este trabalho pretende investigar a sutil passagem da memória oral para a corporal, dentro do ritual do Congado, na Comunidade dos Arturos, situada na cidade de Contagem, próximo a Belo Horizonte, em Minas Gerais. A Comunidade se caracteriza pela manutenção de suas tradições, que vêm sendo transmitidas de geração para geração. Os ensinamentos são passados dos mais velhos para os mais jovens através da oralidade, dos cânticos, da dança e do reviver o ritual sagrado. Ao realizar as festas da Libertação, que acontecem no mês de maio, em que comemoram a abolição da escravatura, e a festa de Nossa Senhora do Rosário, no mês de outubro, em que celebram o nascimento de Nossa Senhora do Rosário, os Arturos estão refazendo sua própria história, partilhando uma memória social de um passado histórico, apontando para re-significações no presente. / The aim of this work is to investigate a subtle passage from the oral to the body memory within the Congado ritual of the Arturos community, situated in the city of Contagem, near Belo Horizonte, in the State of Minas Gerais. The main characteristic of the community is that it has succeeded in keeping its traditions which have been transmitted from one generation to another. The teachings have been passed down from the elder to the younger members orally, through the chants, the dance and by reviving the sacred ritual. By holding the feast of Liberty in May, which celebrates the abolition of slavery, and the feast of Nossa Senhora do Rosário in October, which celebrates the day of her birth, the Arturos are rewriting their history, sharing the social memory of their historical past and aiming at new meanings in the present.

A dissertação apresenta o resultado de estudos sobre os processos de educação corporal em duas comunidades de remanescentes quilombolas, Brotas (Itatiba SP) e Praia Grande (Iporanga SP). O foco da investigação foi a reflexão sobre a centralidade da experiência corporal na formação da pessoa. Para tanto, articularam-se durante o trabalho aspectos da observação em campo e elementos de estudos teóricos de diferentes áreas, como a antropologia cultural, a antropologia da performance, as teorias do corpo, a educação, a estética. O trabalho revisita conceitos já estabelecidos para iluminá-los por meio da experiência corporal observada em campo. Nesse sentido, a partir da apresentação das considerações sobre cada comunidade observada, emerge a categoria mudança, que pauta a primeira parte da reflexão final. Constitui contribuição da dissertação, em sua reflexão última, uma primeira formulação da pesquisadora para os conceitos de educação corporal, cultura corporal e memória corporal. / The dissertation introduces the results of studies about the body education process inside two communities of remanescentes quilombolas (remaining afroamerican settlements): Brotas (Itatiba-SP) and Praia Grande (Iporanga SP). The research focus was the reflection about the centrality of the body experience in the person formation. In such a way, I associate aspects of the field observation and elements of the bibliographic studies from different areas, such as the cultural anthropology, the performance anthropology, the body theories, the education, the aesthetic. The text reviews consolidated concepts, in order to illuminate them through the body experience observed in field work. In this sense, I introduce the reflection about each community observed, and from that the concept of transformation or change which rules the first part of the final reflection emerges. One of the contributions of the dissertation, in its last reflection, is my first formulation to the concepts of body education, body culture and body memory.

Integrated in the formal educational process of a group of future female teachers, play experiences are analyzed as inciting situations which allow and provoke socialization associated not only to entertainment but, also, to conflict and discrimination episodes. The study privileges dialogues about how play integrates and stimulates perceptions, interpretations and reactions of the students collaborators, discussing and reflecting about teaching work as a proposal constructed through playing actions. The voice and circumstances of two students are emphasized in order to put in evidence the flows between memory and subjectivity and, furthermore, to underline the importance and contribution of playing in the re-creation of daily situations. In this sense, play establishes conditions of possibilities for reflecting and collectivizing experiences lived in family, school and other spaces / Através da abordagem metodológica da pesquisa-ação, este estudo investiga o brincar e memórias de brincadeiras como recursos para manifestação de subjetividades que incluem imagens, ações e expressão de universos imaginários. Inserida no processo de formação de um grupo de futuras professoras, alunas de um curso de magistério, a experiência do brincar foi analisada como deflagradora de situações que permitem e provocam a socialização, associada não apenas a formas de diversão, mas, também, a episódios de conflitos e discriminação. A pesquisa privilegia o diálogo sobre questões referentes ao modo como o brincar integra e aciona percepções, interpretações e reações das colaboradoras, discutindo e refletindo sobre o trabalho docente como proposta construída através de ações lúdicas. A voz e circunstâncias de duas alunas colaboradoras são colocadas em destaque para evidenciar trânsitos entre memória e subjetividade e, sobretudo, para sublinhar a importância e contribuição do brincar na recriação de situações cotidianas. Nesse sentido, o brincar estabelece condições de possibilidades para refletir e coletivizar experiências vividas em família, na escola e em outros espaços

[ES] La presente tesis lleva por título En la piel de la latexgrafía: una propuesta creativa para la gráfica actual. Investigación en la que se reúnen los aportes diferenciales de la latexgrafía como técnica inédita de grabado y estampación en el campo de la gráfica expandida en el arte contemporáneo. Partimos de la creación artística en relación a la noción del cuerpo, y propiamente de la piel como frontera simbólica entre nuestro ser y el mundo; superficie en cuya huella se registra la memoria gráfica de nuestra existencia e identidad, la misma que gracias a la implementación de nuestra técnica, podemos transmutar en material expresivo, en el marco de un proceso creativo colaborativo entre el público y nosotros. En una primera parte elaboramos una introducción a la técnica de la latexgrafía, su sentido y práctica, contemplando los conceptos más relevantes y la sistematización del proceso a través de la identificación, descripción y justificación de sus variables. Posteriormente estudiamos los antecedentes y ejes teórico-prácticos de los discursos de la gráfica expandida, con los cuales nos identificamos, para finalmente enumerar los aportes diferenciales, que, desde la latexgrafía, hacemos al ámbito artístico actual. En una segunda parte hacemos una aproximación a las reflexiones poéticas que desde la práctica latexgráfica hemos tejido alrededor de los conceptos del cuerpo, su imagen y las metáforas de la piel, desde una perspectiva interdisciplinar conjugando tanto los aportes de los referentes artísticos como las aproximaciones que desde la filosofía, sociología, antropología y medicina se dan a los conceptos en cuestión, desde mediados del siglo XX a nuestros días en occidente. Research that brings together the differential contributions of latexgraphy as a unique printmaking technique in the field of expanded graphics in contemporary art. We start from the artistic creation in relation to the notion of the body, and properly of the skin as a symbolic border between our being and the world; surface in whose imprint the graphic memory of our existence and identity is recorded, the same that thanks to the implementation of our technique, we can transmute into an expressive material, within the framework of a collaborative creative process between the public and us. In the first part, we elaborate an introduction to the technique of latexgraphy, its meaning and practice, contemplating the most relevant concepts and the systematization of the process through the identification, description and justification of its variables. Later we study the antecedents and theoretical-practical axes of the discourses of expanded graphics, with which we identify our research, to finally list the differential contributions that, from latexgraphy, we make to the current artistic field. In a second part we make an approach to the poetic reflections that from latexgraphic practice we have woven around the concepts of the body, its image and the metaphors of the skin, from an interdisciplinary perspective combining both the contributions of artistic references and the approaches that from philosophy, sociology, anthropology and medicine are given to the concepts in question, from the mid-twentieth century to the present day in the West. Finally, the third part is dedicated to the artistic research included in the corpus of own work, where we present the results obtained from the Embodied Memory project, an individual exhibition conceptualized and executed within the framework of this thesis, as well as the latest advances made in relation to latexgraphy, in the pieces developed during the year 2021. / Romero Cubero, P.
