Detailed bedrock geology of the brenda copper- molybdenum mine, peachland, b.c.

Oriel, William Michael January 1972 (has links)
Detailed mapping of the bedrock geology of the Brenda copper-molybdenum deposit has revealed a consistent sequence of geological events. Consolidation of the quartz diorite host rock that forms Brenda stock was followed by intrusion of small pegmatite and aplite dikes that probably relate to a residual fraction of the parent magma. Age dating of various quartz diorites (White and Harakal, unpublished) indicates that magma solidification occurred about 176 m.y. A concentration of biotite model ages at about 146 m.y. seems best interpreted as the time of ore mineralization. Mineralization occurred at the beginning of a continuous sequence of related structural events. All mineralized ore fractures and younger shears, faults and intramineral dikes exhibit similar, strongly preferred orientations that are unlike orientations of felsic dikes or primary foliations in the quartz diorite host rock. The ore occurs entirely in fractures as products of three sequential overlapping phases of mineralization and consists almost entirely of the ore minerals chalcopyrite and molybdenite with quartz gangue predominanting. Hydrothermal alteration products exist mostly as thin envelopes of potassium feldspar and/or biotite and propylitic alteration. Large argillic alteration zones also exist, however, and are associated commonly with extensively sheared zones. An effort was made at finding a zoning pattern of ore minerals, minor elements and alteration minerals. Ore mineral zoning in the classical sense appears to be absent at Brenda. Metal grades show a crude zonal distribution that correlates directly with density of ore fractures, Hydrothermal alteration minerals and minor elements in chalcopyrite also lack any obvious systematic zonation pattern on the scale of the mine pit. Intramineral dikes of various textures and compositions have been dated at about 130 m.y. They formed after ore mineralization yet before late minor veining not associated with ore-producing veins. / Science, Faculty of / Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, Department of / Graduate

Brenda Ueland : early feminist and writing theorist

Firmin, Mary Ann 23 May 1991 (has links)
Brenda Ueland is a writer whose most noted work is a book which explains her theory about how to write. She also published an autobiography and a co11ection of essays as well as achieving some notoriety as a magazine writer to the twenties and thirties. Ueland's writing theory is based on the premise that all people have a natural desire to express themselves in writing. In her book about writing she explains her belief that all people have the potential to write as an expression of their natural, creative instincts. Ueland's theory identifies her as an Expressionist in terms of contemporary rhetorical theories. Considered eccentric by her family and friends, Ueland chose to live a life that demonstrated a desire for independence and equal treatment as a woman in a male-dominated society. Ueland's attitudes and ideas about choosing a lifestyle not within the bonds of the conventional expectations of marriage identified her with feminist ideals. Although feminism as a recognized movement was to come later, Ueland felt that equal work required equal pay, and, therefore, she objected to the inequalities in salaries based on gender. Ueland also tried to define herself in terms of her own accomplishments and not through her husband's career. In her published works Ueland not only teaches about writing as a form of self-expression, she also shares her search to discover her personal beliefs and values as an inspiration to other people who want to write. / Graduation date: 1992

A jungle of anxious desires : representing New Orleans, 1880–2005

Watts, Tracey Ann 04 June 2010 (has links)
New Orleans has been the subject of a narrative of exoticization throughout much of its history as an American space. The dominant trend in representation casts this city as a lush site of strangeness, intercultural confusion, enchantment, and, occasionally, an alternatively transformative or annihilative freedom. My project travels across genres and critical frameworks to explore the history and development of the narrative of New Orleans’ exoticism in literary and public discourse. The narrative’s evocative rhetoric, including the frequent appearance of the term “jungle,” and its emphasis on both charm and degeneracy encode larger doubts over the ability of the city to fit national ideals. These codes draw on a negative racial imaginary and manifest as sentiments of anxiety and desire over the crossing of nationally normative racial and sexual boundaries. Although the generative position of the narrative has gone largely unrecognized, it surfaces in multiple contexts and in concert with larger discursive trends, such as 19th century interests in racially exclusive American nationalism and 20th century fears of a racialized, sexualized other. This project pays particular attention to the articulations of the narrative in George Washington Cable’s novel The Grandissimes and in the New Orleans-based works of Tennessee Williams. It also explores challenges to the narrative offered by contemporary poets Brenda Marie Osbey and Joy Harjo. Additionally, it investigates the recycling of the narrative in contemporary political discourse. / text

Model izgradnje brenda kao odrednice privrednog razvoja / The model of brand building as a determinant of economy development

Miljanović Mirjana 11 January 2016 (has links)

Posmatrajući gradove kao nosioce kulturnih, društvenih i političkih
promjena, razumijevajući funkcije grada i osnovne elemente grada kao nosioce
tih funkcija, brend i brendiranje su koncepcije u službi prepoznavanja i
podsticanja privrednog razvoja.
grada. Efektivno i efiaksno upravljanje komponentama grada ima presudan
uticaj na privredni razvoj grada.
/
Observing cities as the holders of cultural, social and political changes and
understanding city functions and basic elements of any city as holders of the
aforementioned functions, a brand and branding are concepts for the purpose of
recognition and encouragement of economic development. Friisgatan - unikum eller ny stadsbyggnadsnorm. En fallstudie om fysiska egenskaper på en stadsgata i Malmö

Vojta, Benjamin, Lindblad, Mattias January 2017 (has links)
A current trend within the Swedish city planning is to try to recreate inner city-like areas on the outskirts of Swedish cities where new neighbourhoods are being built. There are different opinions regarding what a lively city street should look like. Friisgatan in Malmö in south of Sweden is an inner city street that has been previously chosen as the “coolest” street in the city. This provided us with an excellent reason to use this street as a case study for this thesis as the street seems to possess the characteristics of a “people magnet”. The aim of this thesis is to understand what physical features are prevalent on Friisgatan. Further, the aim is to create understanding for how these features affect street life. The methods used in the case study part of this thesis include: map studies, inventory, unstructured observation as well as informal interviews conducted on Friisgatan. We researched literature about physical street features to help us better understand the results the empirical study generated. The conclusion of this thesis is that the continuous street life is created through a range of interconnecting features. The ability of buildings and urban interfaces to house different kinds of businesses is essential, along with the location of the street in relation to nodes, for creating a stable flow of people. Street businesses are able to claim the public space outside of their shops which ultimately results in passers-by becoming part of the continuous street life.

Genêt unmasked : examining the autobiographical in Janet Flanner

Gaudette, Stacey Leigh, University of Lethbridge. Faculty of Arts and Science January 2006 (has links)
This thesis examines Janet Flanner, an expatriate writer whose fiction and journalism have been essential to the development of American literary modernism in that her work, taken together, comprises a remarkable autobiographical document which records her own unique experience of the period while simultaneously contributing to its particular aesthetic mission. Although recent discussions have opened debate as to how a variety of discourses can be read as autobiographical, Flanner’s fifty years worth of cultural, political, and personal observation requires an analysis which incorporates traditional and contemporary theories concerning life-writing. Essentially, autobiographical scholarship must continue to push the boundaries of analysis, focusing on the interactions and reactions between the outer world and the inner self. This thesis, therefore, will situate Janet Flanner as an important writer whose experience among the modernist literary community in Europe informs, and is recorded in, her writing. / v, 93 leaves ; 29 cm.
