The Complexity of Offshoring: A Comparative Study of Mexican Maquiladora Plants and Indian Outsourcing Offices From an Institutional-Prospect Theory PerspectiveMiller, Van V., Mukherji, Ananda, Loess, Kurt 01 January 2013 (has links)
To improve our understanding of offshoring and how it is evolving, salient ideas from both institutional and prospect theories are utilized to build a more descriptive model of how decisions are made to (re)direct foreign investment into offshored activities. Careful examinations of the offshoring programs in India and Mexico reveal that they took different investment trajectories during the past decade that can be aptly explained by this integrative model. The primary information used to measure the population trends of offshoring firms in India and Mexico comes from proprietary data sources for each country that issue annual reports on the number of operators in their respective offshoring sectors, that is, services and manufacturing.

The Effect of the Use of CALL on Pupils’ Motivation and Language Development in EnglishGrenner, Cajsa, Hagelin Jönsson, Niri January 2019 (has links)
This research synthesis aims to explore how Computer-assisted language learning (CALL) can motivate the learners to develop their language skills. To answer the question 14 articles have been examined against a framework consisting of second language acquisition theory and method and Dörnyei’s motivational theory. The focus areas within this synthesis are the general view of CALL and education, cooperative language learning with communication technology and CALL in teaching. The review revealed that CALL as a motivational method yielded beneficial results, by providing authentic materials (materials pupils encounter in their daily lives) in a learner-centred environment. In addition, the research shows that the learners’ and teachers’ attitudes towards CALL factors into the result.

The Opinions and Beliefs of Four Teachers Regarding Computer Assisted Language LearningPaca, Mahmut January 2019 (has links)
Digital technology has developed at a rapid pace, even in the second language learning classrooms. The Swedish Curriculum of English stresses the importance of learning digital technology in the school environment. This theoretical research and empirical study has been carried out to find out how computer assisted language learning (CALL) may influence motivation and student’s engagement and other learning outcomes, such as listening, speaking, and reading. It provides evidence that second language learning theories support the use of CALL for language education. The beliefs of four in-service teachers’ are that CALL makes the students more motivated and engaged in their English as a second language.

Same old Russian Enemy? A Content Analysis of the Portrayal of Russians in Call of Duty: Modern WarfareLazarov, Danny Ivan January 2020 (has links)
Stereotypes and threatening images are present in much of our modern entertainment media often going unnoticed for the effects they may have on society. One media which is relatively new and unexplored when it comes to these stereotypes and images of threat is the video game media. This thesis explores how stereotypes are created and maintained within video games and how securitization efforts affect entertainment media, in order to pursue these aims the game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) is analysed with a content analysis built on the theories of othering and securitization, in order to see how the Russians are portrayed within the game. The analysis shows that the image attached to Russians is overly negative compared to other people in the game, and the common threats which they pose is going to war with the West. Based on these findings, the thesis concludes that video games do reproduce securitization discourses and create stereotypes.

Call centres: Anonymous ‘safe spaces’ for women’s experiences of abortion stigmaXaba, Nonkosi January 2021 (has links)
Magister Artium - MA / In South Africa, abortion became a right in 1996 in terms of the Choice on Termination of
Pregnancy Act, 92 of 1996 (CTOP). However, despite this legal dispensation, debates between
pro-life (those against abortion) and pro-choice (those supportive of the law) have continued
unabated in liberal South Africa. These debates have resulted in severe stigma for women who
choose to terminate their pregnancies. The discourse is shaped by an array of personal,
religious, cultural and other social beliefs that differ from community to community. Research
shows that access to free post-abortion services is further complicated for women, especially
young women, by privacy concerns, the negative attitudes of institutional service providers,
and stigma.

AMPHIBIAN VOCALIZATION: IMPLICATIONS OF A NOVEL LARYNGEAL MUSCLE IN THE CALLING MECHANISMS OF THE TÚNGARA FROG ENGYSTOMOPS PUSTULOSUSLagorio, Amy D. 01 January 2020 (has links)
The current functional model of the anuran larynx includes four pairs of laryngeal muscles. Their contractions do not account, however, for the behavioral control of call complexity observed in male túngara frogs (Engystomops pustulosus), which optionally add a secondary note with distinct harmonic structure to their advertisement call. Examination of the túngara frog's laryngeal morphology through dissection, microtomography, and resin histology has revealed that the m. dilatator laryngis is divided into two separate bundles (superficial and deep). The superficial bundle closely matches the typical description of the m. dilatator laryngis and is well positioned to open the glottis. The deep bundle is exclusively innervated by the short laryngeal nerve and has an attachment to the fibrous mass, an internal laryngeal structure necessary for complex call production. This attachment indicates a separate role for the deep bundle in controlling the complexity of the call. Based on physical separation, exclusive attachments, distinct fiber orientation, exclusive innervation, and potential action, this study recognizes the deep bundle of the m. dilatator laryngis as a separate muscle. It also revalidates the name m. arylabialis which had been previously used to describe it. The split of the m. dilatator laryngis into two muscles results in a laryngeal innervation pattern that closely matches that of mammals. This study identified a novel laryngeal muscle in túngara frogs, a potential mechanism for the control of call complexity, and revealed new evidence of homologies between the laryngeal structures of amphibians and mammals.

In this thesis, available tools for call graph generation, processing and visualization are analyzed. Based on this analysis, a call-graph processing tool is designed. The tool is then implemented and tested on call graphs generated from various real-world programs, including the Linux Kernel.
