For Princes or Maids? : Provenance, form and value of serpentine at Skokloster castleSundin, Greger January 2010 (has links)
Skokloster castle, Sweden, houses a group of more than fifty objects in serpentine stone, acquired during the 17th century. The group is generally called Wrangels fältservis [Wrangel’s field service], referring to field marshall Carl Gustaf Wrangel (1613-1676). The, in many aspects, unresearched material is here approached through the field of material culture studies. The thesis is based on a three-partite approach towards the material, in which the first is the result of actual handling and examination of the objects, paired with a comparative analysis of similar objects regarding dating and influences. The second is a theoretical study of form and serpentine matter, and why the serpentine objects share so many form elements with metal artifacts. The third is based on inventory research and aspects of value, both monetary and cultural. The ascribed value of the group varied over time, from being used as kitchen utensils in the 17th and 18th century, to be regarded as private museum pieces in the 19th and 20th century. The various attitudes have left marks on the objects, both physical (as in level of attention given to repairs etc.) and in inventory matter (as in location and descriptive detail), which can be studied and reveal information otherwise unaccessible.

Evidence a analýza terénních tvarů reliéfu a jejich vztahu ke středověkým hradním areálům / Antropogenic landforms identification and analysis of their relation to medieval castlesSýkora, Martin January 2018 (has links)
This Thesis focuses on the anthropogenic geomorphology in the vicinity of eight selected castles in the Bohemia region. The first part of study gathers information about already known archaeological features in the castle areas or hinterland. The first step of the survey uses LIDAR data combined with both historical and contemporary maps. Next, a surface survey helped to prove the existence of selected archaeological features, mark their location and get their written description and photographic documentation. Thanks to the information collected this way, we can possibly interpret former use of the features, as well as their origins in relation to the existence of the castle itself. The last part evaluates efficiency of the used method and reflects of the state of the examined castles areas and surroundings. Key-words: Medieval archaeology - Non-destructive methods - LIDAR - Castle - Anthropogenic landforms

Počátky a vzestup pánů z Házmburka / The Origins and Rise of Lords of HázmburkGerleová, Jana January 2018 (has links)
Nowadays, study of Czech nobility is one of the most popular topic in historiography. For historical research, there are a number of aristocratic families whose development, genealogy, property relations and ties to the king's court have not yet been elaborated in more detail. This was the reason why I chose genus of the Buzic with the focus on the Lords of Valdek as a topic for my bachelor thesis. Members of the Buzic family surrounded Czech princes and kings from the beginning of the Czech "state". We can find the notes and informations about them in many diplomatic and narrative documents. I decided to continue with the research of the history of this family also in my diploma thesis. My thesis focus primarily on the next part of this family, the Lords of Žebrák. Also among them there was many interesting and notable nobles. One of the most important was Zbyněk Zajíc of Žebrák. In the thirties of the 14th century he changed the castle Žebrák and the villages that belonged to this castle with King Jan of Luxemburg for the castle Budyně and the others villages. The Budyně domain was smaller but more profitable than Žebrák domain. Zbyněk also bought from the King the castle Klapý, which is nearby Budyně castle, and he renamed it after his nickname like Házmburk (in German: the hare castle). This...

"Sie sind Aristokratin?" Urozené ženy ve 20. století na příkladě rodu Sternbergů / "Sie sind Aristokratin?" Noble women in 20th century on example of Sternberg familyNEMRAVOVÁ, Lenka January 2014 (has links)
The Diploma thesis aims at lives of the aristocratic women in the 20th century. The focus is placed on their perception of the political events of the period and changes of their role both within family and society. This issue is analyzed with help of the example of three female aristocrats who married into the old Czech family of the Sternbergs, more specifically, three ladies belonging to three different generations Karolína Sternberg, b. Thurn-Valsassina-Como-Vercelli (1863-1944), Kunhuta Sternberg, b. Mensdorff-Pouilly (1899-1989), and Alžběta Sternberg, b. Hrubá z Gelenj (*1929). The description of their lifetimes follows after the more theoretical part dealing in general with the position of women in the 20th century as well as with a brief history of the Sternberg family. The environment in which the ladies grew up is taken into account, too. Apart from the private written documents, the thesis is also based on some interviews with several living members of the family. The concluding part comprises a comparison of the ladies´ lives towards each other and towards the non-aristocratic society.

Návrh projektu rozvoje cestovního ruchu - historický areál Klenová / The proposal of tourism development project - historical complex KlenováHŘEBCOVÁ, Jaroslava January 2009 (has links)
The primary goal of my thesis is to develop a proposal of a project which would be focused on tourism development of the historical complex of Klenová; this complex is located in the Klatovy district in the region of Pilsen. There are two remarkable sights in this area, a) the ruin of the medieval stronghold of Klenová and b) the chateau of Klenová. Both of these are loosely connected to other historical sights and together they create an interesting face of the typical Czech landscape. Emerging from the executed SWOT analysis and subsequent SWOT matrix, the trouble spots have been identified and they became the source for the definition of strategic underdeveloped areas. These areas are appropriate to focus on and they are a part of the overall strategy. Next, these areas, which are in accord with the objectives of the project, are aimed to eliminate deficits and obstacles in the given locality. The areas in question are as follows: {$\bullet$} Tourism offers concerning products. {$\bullet$} The quality of service. {$\bullet$} Marketing and keeping the visitors informed. {$\bullet$} The infrastructure of tourism. Within the framework of these areas, partial targets have been determined. These targets are the source of consequent strategic measures. There is a certain amount of weaknesses to the castle area of Klenová. One of the major shortcommings is that guests tend to spend a short period of time in the area and that the infrastructure of the tourism is by no means sufficient. Furthermore, the quality of the services provided is below standards and tourists are confronted with lack of information concerning overall services. Finally, tourists are not given a sufficiently wide range of possibilities to spend their free time. The chateau of Klenová is always going to be a most important sight, but some refinements could be put into action to heighten the interest of tourists and to increase competitiveness towards other important sights. To interconnect a couple of cultural and historical sights into a single unit is more attractive for visitors, increasing attendance as well as extending the period of time the tourists are willing to spend in the area. The most effective way to connect sights in a comparatively small area seems to be an educational nature trail leading from one heritage landmark to another. The main goal of this thesis has been accomplished by the creation of a nature trail called "In the steps of ancient times, Klenova {--} Týnec {--} Loreta". The castle, the chateau of Klenová and its surroundings should provide the visitors with a wide range of possibilities to spend their free time. Morever, it should make them actually want to spend their free time in the particular area and make them want to come back. Simultaneously, all existing services should be provided on a satisfactory level while the organizational methodology and management should be improving at the same time.

This monograph focuses on analyzing the narrative of The Castle, a novel written by the Czech author Franz Kafka, in 1922. It aims at establishing a connection between certain aspects within the text which may have a metaphorical association with themes related to not only the authors life experiences, but also any other modern mans. It will be centered on a formal analysis of the novel and on metaphorical aspects within the narrative, which may have a negative connotation linked with power, represented by bureaucracy, divinization and space. Afterwards, we will propose a relation of such themes to the set theory from Mathematics, in which a greater set contains a smaller set, also known as a subset. We aim at drawing an analogy of power as a set and its negative connotation with the bureaucratic subset, which are intimately connected. Bureaucracy intersects the two other subsets called divinization and space. Eventually, we will focus on the universality of Kafkas work, which enables the drawing of many other thematic analogies, not only the ones discussed in this set theory proposed in this monograph, due to the fact that Kafkas work is multifaceted in terms of themes.

Étude d’une fortification disparue et de son évolution dans le contexte géopolitique de la Provence orientale du XIIIe siècle au début du XVIIIe siècle : du château des comtes de Provence à la place forte des ducs de Savoie à Nice / Study of a destroyed fortification and its evolution in the geopolitical context of eastern Provence from the 13th century to the early 18th century : from the castle of the Counts of Provence to the fortified town of the Dukes of Savoy in NiceGuilloteau, Éric 23 October 2015 (has links)
The objective of our thesis was the systematic study of the architectural evolution of the Castle and Citadel of Nice against the geopolitical backdrop of the Duchy of Savoy from the late 13th century to the early 18th century, covering the work of the medieval master builders to those of the engineers of the modern era. Our research focused on the continuity and differences, and on the complexity of a site that was remodeled throughout the centuries in a quite particular and constrained topography. The concern for space and time was an integral component in the study of this imposing architectural estate, erected at a period when military architecture was undergoing a dramatic evolution. This fortified town was also reexamined as part of a manifold ensemble of fortifications composed of former medieval, modern or intermediate fortified towns, which expanded from the border of the Italian states to that of eastern Provence. In an attempt to revive the image, form, and successive transformations of the now destroyed Castle of Nice, our work drew on the study of texts and iconography, and on a comparative archeological study of the site. The historical reality of the Castle of Nice can therefore reclaim its architectural, temporal, and geographical unity.
