ŠTĚPÁNEK, Milan January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this diploma thesis is to assess the influence of the building's intention on landscape character. In the theoretical part, concepts such as countryside and landscape character, their anchoring in the legislation, are explained. The methodological procedures used for assessment of the landscape character are also described. Character Creation Processes in MMORPGs : - A qualitative study of determining important factors.

Isaksson, Susanne January 2012 (has links)
Virtual worlds give us the opportunity to explore another self, a virtual character of the real life you. Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs) have become extremely popular over the last decade. It has also grown into a lucrative business. To keep the players, the game needs to be more than just a game. This study aimed at finding out what factors that determine which features of the character creation interface that are most important to players. The following research question was formed; “Which underlying factors affect how important different features of the character creation interface are to experienced MMORPG players? To be able to answer the question an extensive literature review was conducted. A qualitative approach was taken. Long interviews were made with five participants, two female and three male players. The interviews took place while they created a number of avatars in different MMORPGs. The interviews were then followed up. During the follow-ups, the impact the character creation process had for the players, were discussed. The findings indicate that the character creation interface is important for the players to get a good gaming experience. However different types of players require different things. Important features for the users to change were mainly; the head; the name; and adding parts of yourself on your character. The factors that determined the importance of these features were found to be; Player types; Identity types; Immersion levels; and whether or not the game or the gaming experience were new to the player. Another finding showed that the longer you have played a game the less bizarre the different races, classes and gender will seem. The study also indicated that the female participants had a hard time identifying with their male characters.

La protection pénale du consentement donné par le consommateur / Criminal protection of the consent given by the consumer

Aznar, Thibaut 20 October 2017 (has links)
The consumer’s penal protection is an essential stake, even more so following the last legislative reforms that occurred in the matter. The consumer’s consent’s protection represents the very essence of criminal law’s intervention in the consumerist sphere. The fundamental question that must be asked is whether criminal law punishes the criminal behaviour that a professional might show as an additional legislation which is dependent on civil law or, more interestingly, if criminal law is in fact autonomous in the consumer’s consent’s protection without being nothing more than a repressive and dissuasive legislation.

Vilken karaktär väljer du? : Karaktärsval i digitala spel och klädernas roll / Which character do you choose? : Character choices in digital games and the role of clothes

Svensell, Elin, Öberg, Amanda January 2021 (has links)
In this study we look at character choices in digital games, what causes them and more specifically how big of an impact the character’s clothing has on this choice, and how this differs between genders. Further, we also look at differences in how partially nude characters are perceived versus fully clothed characters, as well as how all of this affects the player's user experience. With this in mind, we also want to know how game designers can use this knowledge in character choices to design for a good user experience. To answer these questions, we conducted qualitative interviews as well as a survey. Based on the results we concluded that the clothing has quite a low impact on the player’s character choice, but that they prefer to play as a fully clothed character if they get to choose. Instead, the character’s abilities are mostly what drives the choice. Furthermore, a partially nude character is most often seen as unrealistic, annoying, and/or uncomfortable for the player. This is especially true for female characters. In order to design for a good user experience in character choices, the game designer should include as many female as male characters, as this benefit both men and women. This is because women tend to play as female characters, whereas men to a greater extent plays with both male and female characters. Beyond this it is also a good idea for the colours of characters to be customizable to tailor to players specific needs, such as colour-blindness.

L'Anatomie de la mort : Une étude de l’effet-de-personnage de la mort dans les romans de Claude Simon

Mary Gerlach January 2021 (has links)
This thesis, consisting of five chapters, studies descriptions and images in the novels of Claude Simon which show death as an “effect of character”, in other words, as a sort of character endowed with the same traits as actual literary characters. The first chapter examines how theoreticians define literary characters. Due to the fact that death materializes as a quasi-character during the act of reading since the reader needs to decipher textual clues in order to visualize death as an effect of character, I refer to Vincent Jouve’s theory of the character-effect. The chapters that follow seek therefore to demonstrate that death possesses an anatomy which resembles that of literary characters. The second chapter concentrates on images of the dying body which are reminiscent of themes in the artistic works of the Dance of Death, of Vanitas, and of the grotesque, and which produce in the reader the impression that death has a physical body. The third chapter also analyzes descriptions of the suffering body, as well as metaphorical language in order to show that death possesses a speaking body. The fourth chapter focuses on the presence of the life drive in the representation of death. It seems that death desires life in the same way as the other characters, therefore I envision death with a body composed of drives. The fifth and final chapter pursues the affective body of death by studying descriptions of intense bodily experiences. By accumulating all the images of the different bodies, one sees the sketch of a character that I identify by the designation “the effect of character of death”. / Thesis / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Believe in the Sound You See: The Effects of Body Type and Voice Pitch on the Perceived Audio-Visual Correspondence and Believability of Virtual Characters

Luchcha Lam (15305665) 19 April 2023 (has links)

Lam, Luchcha. M.S., Purdue University, May 2023. Believe in the Sound You See: The Effects of Body Type and Voice Pitch on the Perceived Audio-Visual Correspondence and Believability of Virtual Characters. Major Professor: Nicoletta Adamo.

We examined the effects of body type and voice pitch of virtual characters’ on perceived audio-visual correspondence and believability. For our within-group study, we developed nine experimental conditions using a 3 (body type: ectomorph vs. mesomorph vs. endo- morph body types) × 3 (voice pitch: low vs. medium vs. high fundamental frequency [F0]). We found significant main effects from voice pitch and significant interaction effects between a character’s body type and voice pitch on both the level of perceived audio-visual correspondence and believability of female and male characters. For female characters, we also observed an additional significant main effect from body type and a significant interac- tion effect between the participant’s biological sex and the character’s voice pitch on both perceived audio-visual correspondence and believability. Moreover, the results show that perceived believability is highly correlated to perceived audio-visual correspondence. Our findings have important practical implications in applications where the character is meant to be an emotional or informational guide that requires some level of believability, as the findings suggest that it is possible to enhance the believability of the characters by generating appropriate voices through pitch manipulation of existing voices.
