Development of Cold Gas Dynamic Spray Nozzle and Comparison of Oxidation Performance of Bond Coats for Aerospace Thermal Barrier Coatings at Temperatures of 1000°C and 1100°C

Roy, Jean-Michel L. January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this research work was to develop a nozzle capable of depositing dense CoNiCrAlY coatings via cold gas dynamic spray (CGDS) as well as compare the oxidation performance of bond coats manufactured by CGDS, high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) and air plasma spray (APS) at temperatures of 1000°C and 1100°C. The work was divided in two sections, the design and manufacturing of a CGDS nozzle with an optimal profile for the deposition of CoNiCrAlY powders and the comparison of the oxidation performance of CoNiCrAlY bond coats. Throughout this work, it was shown that the quality of coatings deposited via CGDS can be increased by the use of a nozzle of optimal profile and that early formation of protective α-Al2O3 due to an oxidation temperature of 1100°C as opposed to 1000°C is beneficial to the overall oxidation performance of CoNiCrAlY coatings.

Identification of genes related to seed longevity in Arabidopsis thaliana using genomic molecular techniques

Renard Meseguer, Joan 19 July 2021 (has links)
[EN] Seed longevity, or period that seeds remain viable, is important for biodiversity conservation, agriculture and economy. In addition, the study of this parameter could ease the knowledge about molecular mechanisms common to all organisms to prevent aging. One of the main strategies of seeds to reduce their aging consists to stop their metabolism, through drying. Other molecular mechanisms to avoid damages are the isolation from the environment with the seed coat, and the production of antioxidants and other molecules to avoid oxidative damage, one of the main seed aging causes. Repair mechanisms relieve part of the accumulated damage. The model plant Arabidopsis thaliana provides the opportunity to carry out genomic studies for the research of, in this case, seed longevity to discover determinant genetic factors and molecular mechanisms. This will serve to better understand seed deterioration processes and it will be key to increase seed longevity. Using natural genotyped varieties of Arabidopsis thaliana and a genome-wide association study (GWAS) followed by reverse genetic studies, 12 new genes related to seed longevity have been identified. They are related to embryo protection, oxidative damage control, and seed coat permeability. Seed coat development is determined by transcription factors. Mutant plants in some transcription factors involved in the seed coat development present altered seed longevity. The over-expression of the transcription factors AtHB25 and COG1 resulted in seeds with increased longevity due to an increased lipid polyester deposition. These lipid polyesters barriers are the cuticle, formed by cutin, and the suberin layer. Both participate positively in the embryo protection from the external environment. Genomic studies of both transcription factors have revealed that AtHB25 directly regulates biosynthetic enzymes of suberin and cutin monomers, and COG1 regulates the expression of enzymes related to the polymerization of lipid polyesters and lignin. The regulation involving AtHB25 is crucial due to the high conservation of genomic sequences and functions of AtHB25 in angiosperms, and it seems to be involved in the response to low temperatures. On the other hand, COG1, which is involved in light perception, regulates part of the development of the external integument through its regulation by AP2, a key factor in establishing the tissue identity of this seed coat integument, where suberin is located. AtHB25 and COG1 are involved in seed longevity adaptation through environmental signals such as temperature and light, respectively, regulating lipid polyesters deposition. Návrh povrchové úpravy mokrým lakováním / Proposal surface treatment by wet paint spraying finishing

Vozdecká, Eva January 2008 (has links)
This thesis resumes both theoretical and practical knowledge with surface protection by wet painting which the student achieved during her studies and within her practice which she got in the painting shop of cabs for building, handling and agricultural machines. In her thesis the student has found out that one of current trends focuses on the method which is ecologically friendly and preserves paint lifetime. To achieve that, ED-coat painting is used first and then followed by the painting of waterborne paint. Within the scope of her thesis objective she has also optimised the process of surface protection respective technological pre-treatments and parameters which are carried out during ED-coat and e-coat painting, such as optimal thickness of coating, temperatures or technological time outs.

Corrosion and protections of Somaloy® components

Yu, Zhao January 2016 (has links)
Corrosion protection is very significant for metals in modern society from the view of industrial development. This thesis work project involves a research study that is aimed to investigate the effect of corrosion on the mechanical strength and magnetic properties of four no treated or treated Somaloy® component samples (Somaloy®700 1P,  Somaloy®700 3P, Somaloy®700HR 5P and Somaloy®110i 5P) provided by Höganäs AB and laminated steel sheets by salt spray test. The coatings for protection are phosphoric acid coating, sodium silicate coating, DCA-Modified silicone conformal coating and water-borne single coat paint respectively. Then the protective properties are evaluated by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) in 0.1 mol/L NaCl solution after 7 days exposure.   From transverse rupture strength (TRS) and hysteresis loop measurements by salt spray test, although the bar samples are treated coating, the corrosion decreases the mechanical strength to a certain extent more or less over time. For the magnetic properties, the corrosive environments hardly influence the magnetic parameters of the no treated or four types of coatings treated Somaloy® components. But the all kinds of magnetic parameters for laminated ring samples have a great variation after salt spray test.   In the EIS measurements, for the no treated samples, the initial corrosion resistance is only several hundred ohms and decreases after 1 hour, 8 hours and 1day exposure, then increases to a certain extent with time due to the corrosion products formed on the surface. For the sodium silicate coating, the initial corrosion resistance is approximately several ten thousands ohms and decreases rapidly only after 1 day exposure to several hundred ohms due to the sodium silicate film dissolves in the electrolyte solution and has no effective protective property. Then the following corrosion process is almost same as the no treated samples. For the water-borne single coat paint, the initial corrosion resistance can reach to several Giga-ohms and decreases over time, but can still stay at  level, indicating that this coating has a very good and effective protective properties.   EIS experiments indicate that water-borne single coat paint has a more effective protection than sodium silicate coating and can apply a better corrosion protection for the Somaloy® components   Key words: corrosion protection, soft magnetic composites, phosphoric acid coating, sodium silicate coating, DCA-Modified silicone conformal coating , water-borne single coat paint, salt spray test, TRS, hysteresis loop, EIS

Asfaltová souvrství s využitím sklovláknitých kompozitních materiálů / Asphalt Layers using Fibreglass Composite Materials

Sadil, Dominik Unknown Date (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with using of reinforcing composite materials in asphalt layers. These geosynthetic materials are in road construction used especially to reduce spreading cracks and extend the service life of the construction. As par of this work, test specimens of different types of asphalt layers were produced. These samples were subjected to laboratory testing, where the results of different reinforced asphalt slabs were compared. Within the diploma thesis primarily deals with the testing of the shear bond strength between asphalt layers in order to determine what are the other influencing factors of the test. Another part of the thesis is the 4-point bending test, during which a special technology in the form of a DIC camera was used to monitor the behavior of the asphalt layer over time.
