The American Public Art Museum: Formation of its Prevailing Attitudes

Mars, Marilyn 01 January 1982 (has links)
The history of the art museum's growth in America is presented in this thesis to place the development of the public art museum in the proper context. The museum has absorbed its sense of worth and power from the people who shaped its policy and believed in its ability to accomplish positive feats. Its growth as a force in the art world was subtle and studied, but amazingly complete. The museum which doubts its ability to persuade, convince, educate and entertain does not long survive. Examining the people and their attitudes with whom the museums had the most contact and noting its response to the world in which it has operated, the parallels are strikingly similar. The museum is strong because groups contributed to its growth and maturity; its weaknesses are those in which the three factions were also less effective. There are no hard and fast truths to prove this theory -- but examination of its plausability is a valuable tool for understanding how the museum became such an important institution of our time.

A Survey of the Martin S. Ackerman Foundation at VCUarts Anderson Gallery.

Girard, Elizabeth 20 November 2009 (has links)
The museum field has changed dramatically in the past thirty years, shifting from museum staff collecting anything and everything to staff collecting with a narrow focus defined within a museum’s collection plan. Today’s museum professionals are faced with a backlog of collection problems such as works that do not fit within the museum’s mission statement, unaccessioned works and a lack of storage due to the overzealous collecting of previous generations. Many museums are now attempting to deal with the problems left by past staff members by going through the collection, piece by piece, and making decisions which shape the collection to better reflect the image of the museum today. I addressed this problem with one collection, the Martin S. Ackerman Foundation Collection, at VCUarts Anderson Gallery at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. This project consisted of locating and inventorying the collection as well as documenting the works to prepare for possible accession into the Anderson Gallery permanent collection. This paper addresses the challenges and outcomes of my collection survey, while providing a model for others to follow in dealing with decades of collections buildup.

Altered Interactions

Rego, Kristen 01 January 2010 (has links)
Surrounding materials, signage, and detritus on the daily path offer plenty to look at, if not too much. The eye seeks comfort in its passive vision by ignoring its peripheries. Identification of my personal vision reveals itself through the manipulation of ignored material. I consider hand-made vs. machine made, singular vs. the multiple particularly in plastics, packaging and other utilitarian objects. Industrial processes influence my one-person operation. Understanding the way objects are made allows for an opportunity to connect with them. I’m already surrounded by them, the least I can do is get to know them better.

Subchapter about courts maintaining the Commercial Register contains an analysis of their operations. Subchapter about persons and entries that can be entered into public registers defines essential facts, which shall be entered into the register. Chapter Three explores the Commercial Register, its individual units and facts which can enter those units. It is necessary to keep the legislation generality of public registers in mind, to which a...

Jedno inkasní místo s ohledem na závislou činnost / A single place of collection regarding employment

Sedláčková, Jana January 2014 (has links)
This diploma thesis is divided into 5 chapters. The thesis is supplemented by 7 attachments. The thesis deals with the single place of collection, with the reform of tax and insurance payments collection. Introduction of the single place of collection would radically change the field of taxes and insurance payments imposed in connection with employment. This thesis compares the legislation of the end of 2013 and the legislation proposed by the draft of act on public insurance payments and personal income tax administration. The latter one is compared in key different aspects with legislation of the act No. 458/2011 Coll., on Amendment of Acts in Connection with Establishment of Single Place of Collection and on Other Amendments to Tax and Insurance Acts. The brief definition of the single place of collection through its main goals and principles in the first chapter is followed by the chapter on the history of the single place of collection project. The failure to follow the schedule as well as the participation of the World Bank is pointed out. The legislative process of the acts and the Senate legal measure implementing the first phase of the single place of collection is briefly described. The third chapter composes of two crucial parts. Firstly, the legislation of public health insurance,...

Éditer la jeune littérature : la collection Écrire aux Éditions du Seuil 1956-1965 / Éditer la jeune littérature

Mercier, Thomas 23 June 2011 (has links)
Study of the works of Jean Cayrol in his collection "Ecrire" that will illuminate into the study of conceptions and practic of publication of literature. The study will confirm the hypothesis of a form editorial writing, which strongly influenced French publication. The period after the war is representative of a renewal in the landscape of literature, which saw the promotion of a fresh form of literature. Among these new structures, the publishing house "Edition du Seuil" set itself apart by its willingness to join the bigger, well known, general publishing houses. Jean Cayrol who was both an author and editor in "Edition du Seuil" took charge of its literary future. Having spent time in a concentration camp as a consequence of his resistance, Cayrol was solidly attached to literature. He invented the "Lazareen" which is a type of novel writing associated with biblical Lazarus's story. This form of writing acknowledges the experience without explicitly citing it. In 1956 Jean Cayrol crea ted "Ecrire" a collection of short texts, which would ordinarily not have caught the eyes of publishers. Authors were published only once in this collection and we fortunate to be recognized by the critics. The assortment of the author's diverse works in this collection projected the publisher's uniqueness to develop a spécifie editorial technique, a way of reading and a path of choice to a lïterary edifice. Consequently, 12 authors in his collection became publishers each perpetuating Jean Cayrol's style in French literature publications. In the period 1950-1965, no collection was able to promote young authors and impact publication as much as "Ecrire".
