A institucionalização de coleções pessoais doadas ao Museu Histórico e Cultural de Jundiaí: um estudo sobre Gestão Documental / The institutiolization of personal collections donated to the Museu Histórico e Cultural de Jundiaí: a study on document management.

Barbosa, Maria Paula Pestana 19 August 2015 (has links)
The issues related to documentation of personal collections donated to museological institutions determine, from the moment you begin to play its role as a Communicator, the relationship with the acquis of these institutions and the public that frequents. The approach of the collection in the collection incorporates new senses and meanings to objects in addition to the functions assigned to them in the context of origin. That is, objects that were considered relics and rarities or curiosities are personal cognitive value becoming information support and transforming the object in source of historical knowledge, which shall integrate and interact with the collection of the Museum. As a carrier of information, personal collections objects start to identify events, phenomena and concepts relating to socio-cultural systems in which they are inserted. In addition, the relationship between this process and the concepts of memory and heritage implies an interdisciplinary research and a constant dialogue with the areas of knowledge that relate to that object. Therefore, this dissertation deals with the aspect of individuality of personal collections while synthesis of an individual, highlighting the issue of collecting and its various approaches and the role of these collections in Museum Collections. The analysis of cataloging of institutions receiving chips collections sought to identify procedures for personal insertion of these collections in your holdings. Such considerations have made it possible to propose to the Historic and Cultural Museum of Jundiaí to elaborate a specific cataloging these collections, thus enabling the preservation of historical and documentary content, as well as safeguard actions, research and dissemination of knowledge

A TRIBAL SPECIAL LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES PROJECT: ESTABLISHING THE MALKI MUSEUM SPECIAL LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES

Geyer, Andrea 01 September 2018 (has links)
The Malki Museum Tribal Special Library and Archives project is an on-site repository created in order to provide access to information regarding tribal culture and heritage to local tribal members and researchers. The project filled the need for a space dedicated to material related to the history of local Southern California Native American tribes and information regarding the topics of Archaeology, Anthropology and History. The collection includes: books, manuscripts, documents, audio/visual media, and photographs. Bringing together multimedia sources, the Special Tribal Library allows for the preservation and accessibility of these items through cataloging and digitizing the collection. This method allows for the collection to be available to the public while being able to preserve its integrity through limited handling. In order to facilitate the establishment of the Special Library and Archive, the Malki Museum Special Tribal Library and Archives project teamed up with the Malki Museum’s Director, as well as the Malki Museum’s Tribal Board of Directors. Several weeks of organization, assessment, and collaboration helped prepare the Special Library first for user-friendliness. The final product is the Malki Museum Tribal Special Library which provides tribal members and scholars alike a locality where research can be undertaken and acquired. The Malki Museum Tribal Special Library project helps bring important data within reach to its local community.

Building a Better Mousetrap: Capturing New Data in ISI Journal Citation Reports and Local Journal Utilization Reports to Support Academic Collection Managers

(E. Ashley Rogers Brown) 12 April 2006 (has links)
The ISI provides librarians with tools such as the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and the institution specific Local Journal Utilization Report (LJUR) to aid in the management of serials collections. These tools enable librarians to respond quickly to changes in publishing practices and purchasing options. While available literature often criticizes ISI data, few studies provide concrete recommendations for improvement. This study explores two extensions to LJUR: (1) adding citation date and (2) creating institution specific impact factors. In addition, I explore the degree to which self-citations influence the ISI impact factor. Publication and citation calculations are made for three prominent southern universities’ research chemists using a corpus of full text articles drawn from 27 American Chemical Society (ACS) journals and stored in an Oracle database. The ACS research corpus impact factor simulation and ACS research corpus self-citation omission impact factor are also created and compared with current JCR data.

Varför är det så svårt? - En studie av kulturhistoriska museers arbete med hbtq-perspektiv i samlingar / Why is it so Difficult? - A Study of How Cultural History Museums Work to Include the Cultural Heritage of the LGBT Community in Their Collections

Lendi, Charlotte January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this two years master’s thesis in Archive, Library and Museum Studies is to analyse how Swedish cultural history museums work to include LGBTQ-heritage (LGBT is the acronym for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer) in their collections. This work is articulated around three research questions. These interrogate museum practice about collecting and collection management, what it looks like in the already gathered collections as well as the implications such work implies on a broader level. The theoretical framework throughout the paper is gender and LGBT studies as well as queer theory. The analytical tools that have been used are bias-theory (Carruthers 1987), stereotyping (Pickering 2003) and classification theory (Bowker & Leigh Star 2000). Seven interviews form the main empirical material that is analysed in order to grasp museums collecting practice and collection management. Today’s museums practice is influenced by the new trends in democratic representation and seeks therefore to include new narratives that include the LGBTQ community. Museums are either collecting new material with connection to the LGBTQ community or look inwards in order to reinterpret older collections and maybe find a link to it. Both strategies rouse questions that are discussed in this paper. How to classify and document that material as well as selection processes and the traditional museums relation to the alternative collecting practice as the grassroots organizations stand for are discussed in the thesis.

The art museum library: A survey of the historical, functional and organizational aspects

Unknown Date (has links)
"The purpose of this paper is to form an organizational pattern representative of art museum libraries. The writer's choice of this subject has grown out of an extended period of interest in art history and in museums as depositories of great paintings and works of art. In pursuing this interest, the writer has made pilgrimages to art museums in many parts of the country, often for the purpose of seeing a special exhibit. This interest has also resulted in the forming of a personal collection of some fifty volumes in the art reference field, the accumulation of many unbound copies of art magazines, and the preparation of a vertical file clipping and picture collection, particularly representative of modern painting. The ever increasing background information acquired through the pursuance of these projects finally led to a desire for closer contact with museum activities. The writer's comparatively recent interest in library service seemed to offer an opportunity for this fulfillment. The choice of art museum libraries, as the subject for a paper furnished an opportunity for investigation into this specialized field of library service"--Introduction. / "June, 1953." / At head of title: Florida State University. / Typescript. / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts." / Advisor: Agnes Gregory, Professor Directing Paper. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 50-51).

De arkeologiska artefakternas museala liv : En biografi över Valsgärdesamlingen / The museum life of archaeological artefacts : A biography of the Valsgärde-collection

Friberg, Zanna January 2016 (has links)
The museum life of archaeological artefacts - A biography of the Valsgärde-collection is a two years master ́s thesis in Archive, Library and Museum studies at Uppsala University in Sweden. It is an object biography of an archaeological collection housed in the university museum Museum Gustavianum in Uppsala. The collection is the result of excavations conducted by Uppsala University in the early 20th century in Valsgärde in Gamla Uppsala parish, Uppland. The aim of the study is to highlight the museum life of archaeological artefacts and relate this to the curation crisis within archaeology, as described in Anglo-American research. Archival material from the museum was examined, using a method inspired by ethnographic content analysis (ECA), in order to write a biography of the curatorial management and use of the collection. The resulting object biography revealed clear signs that the collection had been suffering from problems associated with the curation crisis during its museum life. The perspective offered by the biographical narrative also revealed some long-term issues that resulted in these problems. Both general problems described in research on the curation crisis and issues specific to the Valsgärde-collection is illustrated by this object biography. The study shows that a continuation of the biographies of archaeological artefacts beyond the mere excavation phase offers insights into issues within, as well as possible solutions to, the archaeological curation crisis.
