Categorización sociopragmática de la cortesía y de la descortesía : Un estudio de la conversación coloquial española / A sociopragmatic categorization of politeness and impoliteness : A study of Spanish colloquial conversations

Bernal Linnersand, María January 2007 (has links)
The main purpose of this study is to establish a socio-pragmatic categorization of politeness and impoliteness activities in informal interactions. In doing this, we describe the communicative strategies related to (im) politeness phenomena and how they are used to produce certain social effects in face-to-face interaction through the ongoing negotiation of participants’ face (Goffman, 1967). This study is based on informal conversations extracted from a corpus of spoken Spanish gathered in the metropolitan area of Valencia, Spain (Briz and Val.Es.Co. Group, 2002). Focusing on methodology, this study combines a qualitative method inspired in CA with a DA interpretative approach that analyzes communicative acts (Allwood 1995; Bravo, e. p.1). Face contents such as autonomy and affiliative face, role face, group and individual face, are a resource for analyzing what happens during interaction along with the resulting interpersonal effects. The integration of the analysis of context, which includes the co-text, the situational context and the socio-cultural context (cultural settings and shared assumptions), is equally important in this study. The empirical analysis of both the conversations and a questionnaire on impoliteness bring us to propose a series of categories of (im) politeness. The categories are as follow: Strategic Politeness (within this category we find attenuating politeness and reparatory politeness), Enhancing Politeness, Group Politeness, Ritual Politeness (here we differentiate between meeting situations and visit situations) and Discursive Politeness (we divide this category into conventional and thematic). Concerning Impoliteness, we find situations in informal conversation in which impoliteness is expected (normative impoliteness) and when threatening acts (reproaches, criticism, etc.) do not imply directly, per se, a negative personal effect. We next find two types of impoliteness: one produced by threats to the face of the speaker which are neither mitigated nor amended and the other caused by a break from the normal rules of politeness.

La competencia sociopragmática en aprendices suecos de español como lengua extranjera: el caso de la Descortesía No Auténtica / The sociopragmatic competence in Swedish learners of Spanish as a foreign language: the case of Non-Genuine Impoliteness

Toledano Fernández, Alba María January 2013 (has links)
The present research belongs to the field of Teaching Spanish as a foreign language and deals with the study of certain phenomena pertaining to the theory of politeness. This investigative study intends to determine the level of sociopragmatic competence demonstrated by an experimental group composed by Swedish native speakers who are also Spanish non-native speakers, regarding Non-Genuine Impoliteness (Bernal, 2007). In this type of politeness which involves to address towards the interlocutor insults and/or expressions that conventionally express a negative attitude, contextual factors take part making they get an affiliative aim. To illustrate with examples this type of politeness we recur to the use of authentic audiovisual materials, specifically to six sequences extracted from the Spanish TV series Los hombres de Paco. By means of a survey, our experimental group of students will demonstrate their perceptions of the sequences. We hypothesize that, as that our Swedish experimental group does not share the same knowledge of the Spanish-speech community and as they learn this foreign language in a formal environment (the classroom), they will not be able to understand the use of this NGI in its entirety. We base our investigation in a methodology directly pertaining to sociocultural pragmatics (Bravo, 2009), which requires the participation of a further Spanish consultative group of participants, with two main objectives in mind: that their contributions confirm the introspective analysis made by the researcher and that both sets of results serve as a basis for the analysis of the answers given by our student experimental group. A qualitative analysis of all the answers provided enables us to conclude that the Swedish group, although they possess a developed level of sociopragmatic competence regarding the understanding of the NGI, is still limited when it comes to putting it into practice, as their sociopragmatic level of competence is not entirely comparable to that of native Spanish speakers.

Střídání a mísení kódů v interview internetové televize DVTV / Code switching and code mixing in DVTV - online channel interviews

Morávková, Alena January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to find out to what extent DVTV Internet TV speakers adhere to Literary Czech in each interview they perform and under which circumstances they do not. We also wanted to contribute to the answers to the question, whether it is appropriate to think about the transition from the current concept of Literary Czech to Standard Czech. During the interview analysis, we monitored the rate of occurrence of the non-standard elements, the influence of the speaker's role in the interview, and selected sociolinguistic factors which have influence on the choice of language code. We compared the results with the research of other journalistic interviews and with the corpus data from the Common Czech. The examined material consisted of 30 interviews from January to February 2016. We found out that some of the interviewed people tended to use Literary Czech, some were speaking non-standard Czech and there were also people whose speech was in terms of the occurrence of Literary and non-standard elements rather mixed. Nevertheless, in general, the character of the texts was rather literary. Based on a comparison of the results with other research, we came to the conclusion that the transition from Literary Czech to Standard Czech would be premature, as the speakers are able to comply with...

Konstrukce sériových sloves v arabštině / Serial verb constructions in Arabic

Pospíšil, Adam January 2017 (has links)
DIPLOMOVÁ PRÁCE SERIAL VERB CONSTRUCTIONS IN ARABIC Konstrukce sériových sloves v arabštině Bc. Adam Pospíšil Abstract The aim of this thesis is to investigate multi-verb structures in Egyptian Arabic (EA) which show some characteristics attributed to the typological notion of serial verb constructions (SVC). After providing a preliminary definition of an EA-specific SVC notion, the author examines a substantial quantity of data from EA, gathered mostly on social networks, in order to describe the syntactic and semantic behavíour of constructions which are yielded by such definition. Finally, the results of this investigation are considered from the perspective of the definition of SVC as a comparative concept provided by Haspelmath (2016), so as to view the observed constructions in a typological context.

An annoted translation of a contemporary Québécois play

Johansson, Karin January 2020 (has links)
This essay is based on my own translation from French to Swedish of parts of the play Hôtel Pacifiqueby the Québécois author Fanny Britt. The purpose of the essay, apart from creating a text performable in its target language context, is to discuss and analyze the specialized nature of translating drama. The essay also aims to provide new perspectives on Québécois French and problems related to translating language varieties. The spoken word is the focal point: i.e. the lines of the drama and the characteristic oral features of Québécois French. Newmark's communicative translation method is used as the main translation principle. The method proves to be compatible with the text type despite certain exceptions. The result was a modern Swedish play with colloquial and idiomatic language. However, in order to determine if the text is performable, the drama must be presented on stage, which is a future goal.

Communication Patterns Among Members of Engineering Global Virtual Teams

Zaugg, Holt 05 July 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Global virtual (GV) teams provide an opportunity for engineering students to participate in meaningful, cross-cultural learning projects without additional costs of time and money associated with study abroad programs. However, students must learn how to communicate effectively with international team members. Instruction to help students learn which virtual communication technologies to use and how to use them is needed. Training must include cross-cultural training that facilitates team communications and interactions with people from different cultural backgrounds. This study focused on how 10 specialized lessons, Principles of Global Virtual Teams (PGVT), facilitated the communications and interactions of students participating on GV teams in an advanced engineering design course. All GV teams provided evidence that communications and interactions on GV teams are different than Co-located teams. However, teams receiving the PGVT instruction showed indications of increased communication ability on GV teams. These indicators included technology use, vernacular phrase use, communication competence ratings and descriptors from team emails.

Multispeechism in modern Russian film scripts

И., Novichkova, T. I. January 2023 (has links)
The master's thesis contains the experience of analyzing modern film scripts in a socio-cultural and stylistic aspect. The analysis of genre and stylistic features of the screenplay allowed us to establish a direct relationship between these parameters. The analysis of the signals of multilingualism in the scripts of comedies and dramatic films is carried out. In comedy films the collision of linguistic units of different stylistic levels in the immediate context is used to create a laughing effect. In the script of the drama the combination of reduced and general literary units, special and diachronically marked units is designed primarily to increase the conflict of the plot.
