Trivsel i en komprimerad bostad : En studie om trivsel och att känna sig hemma i komprimerade bostäder / Well-being in a compact residence : A study on well-being and feeling at home in compact livingGoussi Johansson, Sofia January 2021 (has links)
What makes a home to be a home? That is a question that requires different answers, a home for one person doesn’t have to be a home for another. “Home” can be defined in many ways but one thing that lots of people agree with is that a home is a place where you “feel like home” and a place where you feel well. This essay has completed ethnographic studies of different compact housing and compiled a literature review to answer the following questions; “ What does the research say about compact living and well-being? How do people make themselves feel like home within compact housing? How can we design compact housing but at the same time maintain a pleasant home environment?”. As a part of the result, a proposal of a compact housing has been made. It has been based on literature and ethnographic study. The essay has also addressed important concepts such as; compact, well-being, home and quality. The essay discusses which aspects that contribute well-being and the homefeeling, also how that can improve with compact housing. It highlights how you should think when you are designing compact housing, which parts to put the main emphasis on.

Interiorizing informality: resituating adaptable mixed-use housing within its urban vernacular. Kambi Moto, Nairobi Kenya.Kivutha, Kathleen Kwekwe 20 October 2010 (has links)
My Interior Design practicum is an inquiry about the nature of urban informality through the study of present and emerging urban vernaculars within Kambi Moto, an informal area in Nairobi Kenya. I argue that unique vernacular characteristics manifest in everyday living and can be captured through the experience and knowledge of self-builders, entrepreneurs and dwellers within informal settlements. An understanding of these vernacular characteristics is instrumental in the designing of meaningful and effective social housing prototypes.
The main methods used to document vernacular characteristics include, post occupancy evaluations (POEs), time diaries, photographs and observation. Within an interior design context, these tools helped describe the spatial needs, wants and desires of the everyday dwellers of Kambi Moto.
The four resulting compact housing configurations support one-to-ten member households with provisions for a home-based business (HBB) or a rental unit. All units have an adaptable rooftop with a garden.

Exploring Wellbeing in Small and Unconventional Dwellings : Understanding living in small and unconventional dwellings through a multi- dimensional perspective of spaceGentili, Elias January 2017 (has links)
Master thesis, Master of science in Innovation through Business, Engineering and Design with specialization in Business Administration Field of research: Business Administration, School of Business & Economics University: Linnaeus University, Växjö, Sweden Course code: 5FE07E Semester: Spring 2017 Author: Elias Gentili Examiner: Saara Taalas Tutor: Lena Olaison Title: Exploring Wellbeing in Small and Unconventional Dwellings Subtitle: Understanding living in small and unconventional dwellings through a multi- dimensional perspective of space Background: Urbanization and densification is happening in practically all parts of the world. Cities are becoming bigger, and questions about accessibility to the urban areas is a concern. Difficulties in finding affordable accommodation is one, and another one is wellbeing in homes. With the recent interests in the increasing tiny house movement, living solutions that are affordable, simple, and small are gaining in popularity. This is happening partly as a reaction to that the average home size in many parts of the western world have been increasing dramatically in the last decades. Both building regulation institutions and research are often connecting small space living with negative effects on wellbeing. But the tiny house movement seem to show that people can live well also in small dwellings outside of such regulations. The question of what brings wellbeing to a homes has never been more relevant, and the area of small and unconventional housing is lacking research. Research question: What is wellbeing living in small and unconventional homes? Purpose: The purpose of this study is to increase the understanding of wellbeing in small and unconventional homes. The objective of this research is to provide a holistic understanding of wellbeing in such homes, by going beyond firstspace and secondspace dimensions, into a thirdspace perspective. Method: Semi-structured, face-to-face interviews and observations of people chosing to live in small and unconventional dwellings. A thematical analysis strategy suitable for new concept development was adopted. An abductive approach was applied in order to frame the study being multi disciplinary, and in order to obtain increased understandings of the study phenomenon. However, the study focused heavily on the empirical data from my study. Conclusion: This study found that the wellbeing is experienced as a totality of different dimensions: not only does the physical dwelling in itself provide for wellbeing, but also dimensions relating to thoughts, meanings and lived experiences they associate to their dwellings. A holistic perspective is what best can provide an understanding of their experienced wellbeing, where physical, mental and lived dimensions are combined. Furthermore was found that the dwellings can work as facilitators to achieve wellbeing on several levels both relating to their inner space in their dwellings, bringing in other spatialities, and for their lives as a whole. Keywords: Small space living, tiny house movement, experienced wellbeing at home, housing beyond traditions and conventions, influences of spatialities, spatial theory

Design för små, kompakta bostäder : Viktiga egenskaper för produkter utvecklade för kompakta bostadsformer / Design for small, compact homes : Important properties in products intended for compact housingPersson, Sara January 2020 (has links)

Brněnské brownfieldy u řeky Svitavy / Brno brownfields by the Svitava riverŽáková, Dagmar January 2018 (has links)
The theme of the diploma project is urban contemporary urban structure in the City of Brno. The main purpose of the selected brownfield is understanding the revitalisation of the city and gets the maximum benefit and to demonstrate the viability of the proposed development and its economic characteristics with the surrounding residential. Proposed is the public space, park and streets in this structure. The territory is located in the Brno-Husovice, near the river Svitava and surrounded by several decaying brownfield. My task was to find the right key to understand this whole area which includes the former object called motorárna - Zetor and find out the ideal solution for the future use of the complex and link it with existing structure to create functional urban organism. Currently, there is a chaotic and heterogeneous structure, which has a negative impact on the surrounding area, which is given by that the area and the surrounding buildings are isolated and hidden behind the unsightly walls. The territory is almost impenetrable, inside the area completely and the natural throughput to the river and partial recreation was supressed. With my project I was trying to create place, which will offer different city urban structure and activities for all day long. In such a place people will met and they will live, work and recreate there and use the river Svitava the right way.

Kompaktní formy bydlení / Compact Forms of HousingMájek, Jan Unknown Date (has links)
"The compact forms of housing" is a term with which the Czech interior design yet do not often occur. This concept densely built low-rise residential files yet carries a strong potential not only in matters of mere living, but also offers one of the progressive alternative ways of living environment in general. Examined form of residential buildings is becoming increasingly important especially in specific situations where conventional housing is failing and instead generates other social problems. This thesis is primarily seeking the maximum extent available to document the issue of a compact housing, describe its basic form and point out the historical roots of this typology. The acquired knowledge was then subjected to an in-depth analysis, the output of which is to be the most comprehensive characterization researched the topic and its inclusion in the context of the standard forms of housing. The result is a set of research information, assumptions and typological bases that determine the primary urban, architectural, or social limits of the residential category. This work attempts to take into account the specified topic in the broader context of housing as a basic human need. As a result of findings would be its contribution to the culture scene in our home and create a theoretical material that would become an essential information base for creating compact residential files. The conclusions of this research can be further developed, tested and refined in the educational process at the faculties of architecture or in the practice. The results of research could stimulate interest in this type of housing and contribute to the enrichment of Czech housing scene of a synthetic form, which will form the connecting link between the typological family house and an apartment building. Low-rise housing complexes with a high population density can also create an effective counterbalance to the typical suburban development of part-time family home and offer method, respectively one of the alternative ways to be with this dilapidated urban housing estate deal.
