This thesis describes the design of Competitive Intelligence for the selected construction company. The main objective of this work is to choose a competent person responsible for the implementation of activities of CI in this company, identify appropriate sources for information about the company environment and tools for monitoring. The theoretical part is based on the scientific literature and focuses on the characteristics of competitive intelligence and describes the various phases of the intelligence cycle. The theoretical part includes the chapter, which deals with the issue of CI in the small companies. Then, there is the typology of information sources which describes the tools for information monitoring through the Internet. The practical part of this thesis deals with the design system of the competitive intelligence for the selected company. The first part has evaluated the actual situation in the construction industry in the Czech Republic and conducted research information sources suitable for tracking environment of the construction company. Based on this research there are recommended sources of information in the next chapter that should be monitored and there are also selected tools for collecting and monitoring information. Part of the proposed solution is the choice of the officer responsible for the conduct of CI. The last chapter of the practical part describes the processes that must be performed by the specialist in the various stages of the reporting cycle and it also determines the structure of the data entered into the system. The contribution of this work is to improve collecting, processing and distributing information efficiency about the company´s environment and to establish a systematic recording of detected events, opportunities and threats. Another benefit is a practical demonstration of the introduction of the CI system that respects the constraints of small companies and an overview of IT tools, which can be used by these companies for systematic information monitoring and collection.

L’intelligence économique avec ses outils a permis le passage d’une sécurité strictement passive à une sécurité active. Les politiques liées à la protection du patrimoine économique s’opèrent par une coopération entre le public et le privé. La recherche met l’accent sur la notion de sécurité économique à l’épreuve de la mondialisation, permettant d’analyser de façon globale les menaces et les politiques de riposte dans un environnement de globalisation économique. / This thesis has for object to study the economic security in a context of globalization. In the broad sense term the economic security is the absence of threats against the economic heritage. The protection of this heritage is carried by many measures and policies and legal instruments. The competitive intelligence with its tools allowed the passage of a strictly passive security an active security. The policies related to economic heritage protection take place by cooperation between the public and the private sector. The search emphasizes the notion of economic security in the event of the globalization, allowing to analyse in a global way the threats and the policies of retort in an environment of economic globalization.

The benefits of this work are mainly the mapping of external environment and its influences on the organization and subsequent proposal of how to use information resources for the specific needs of the company and its leadership in the decision-making process to maximize the company's market potential and resistance to adverse influences.

This diploma thesis focuses on options of Competitive Intelligence solutions in small and medium enterprises. Applied part is conducted in a medium sized manufacturing company. Theoretical part of this thesis introduces areas of Competitive Intelligence and Business Intelligence, basic technological overview and illustrates Competitive Intelligence cycle description. In Czech republic, majority of companies are in a form of a small or medium enterprise, therefore theoretical definition is provided. In applied part of the thesis are introduced relevant information sources for small and medium enterprise, selected Business Intelligence tools under the Open-source license or provided as a Service. In following chapters is described possible utilization of this analytical software for a Competitive Intelligence. In final part of the thesis is a chosen solution applied in a HF Czechforge s.r.o., which consists of Business Intelligence and Competitive Intelligence. Main contribution of this thesis is a implementation suggestion of a user friendly Business Intelligence and Competitive Intelligence, which can be helpful for the company in gaining better overview of itself and its environment at acceptable costs.

This diploma thesis results from the need for Competitive Intelligence as a system for gathering, analyzing and communicating information about competitors to obtain a competitive advantage. The work attempts to analyze current knowledge gathering processes as well as an application of that information for strategic decision making inside the XXX corporation. After definition of basic terms several different methods and approaches to Competitive Intelligence are described. These methods are reviewed and those that suit XXX requirements best are picked up afterwards. In this thesis there are also identified some of the crucial information sources, to begin with public and commercial databases and catalogues, business publications, online sources, personal knowledge, but also data-mining and other sophisticated methods. The main contribution of this work is the proposal of Competitive Intelligence system itself, empathising an effective functionality that solves identified issues, and is based on our theoretical resources and on actual competence of the company.

We will dedicate implantation of competitive intelligence methods to the company's decision making process with consideration future market development in this thesis. We will clarify phases which company has to make for establishing CI methods to the reader on the pages of this work. We will also devote information sources and procedure, which can be for those issues crucial.
