Harmonic Vibration Analysis Of Large Structures With Local NonlinearityAbat, Diren 01 February 2009 (has links) (PDF)
With the rapid development in today&rsquo / s technology, reliability and performance requirements on components of various mechanical systems, which tend to be much lighter and work under much more severe working conditions, dramatically increased. In general, analysis techniques based on simplified model of structural components with linearity assumption may provide time saving for solutions with reasonable accuracy. However, since most engineering structures are often very complex and intrinsically nonlinear, in some cases they may behave in a different manner which cannot be fully described by linear mathematical models, or linear treatments may not be applicable at all. In fact, some studies revealed that deviations in the modal properties of dynamic structures gathered from measured data are due to nonlinearities in the structure. Hence, in problems where accuracy is the primary concern, taking the nonlinear effects into account becomes inevitable.
In this thesis, it is aimed to analyze the harmonic response characteristics of multi degree of freedom nonlinear structures having different type of nonlinearities. The amplitude dependencies of nonlinearities are modelled by using describing function method. To increase the accuracy of the results, effect of the higher order harmonic terms will be considered by using multi harmonic describing function theory. Mathematical formulations are embedded in a computer program developed in MATLAB® / with graphical user interface. The program gets the system matricies from the file which is obtained by using substructuring analysis in ANSYS® / , and nonlinearities in the system can easily be defined through the graphical user interface of the MATLAB® / program.

Beyond the turning point of activation : Describing the characteristics and changes of Active Labour Market Policy in Sweden between 1991-2017.Assadi, Sam January 2018 (has links)
This paper tries to contribute to the collective knowledge on Bonoli’s (2010) concept “The Activation Turn “, both as a phenomenon and a turning point for ALMP in Sweden. It is argued that the Activation Turn has been legitimized in four phases in Sweden (Identification, First organisation, Second organisation and Stabilisation phase, between years of 1991-2017). This thesis argues that the blueprint for understanding and exploring the Activation Turn as a phenomonenon is to capture and compare the discourse and how it has developed within the state during these four phases. Using two guiding research questions: How can we describe the characteristics of ALMP during each phase? And how have ALMP have changed in Sweden since the beginning of the 90’s? This paper has tried to answer these two questions by doing a content analysis that captures the dominating characteristics of ALMP during each phase and how they have changed. The analysis has been done with a help of a coding scheme, which is derived from a theoretical framework on the three elements of institutional legitimacy: regulative, normative, and cognitive element. After counting the number of coded references from 38 state documents, and then analysing and discussing the results, we came to two overall conclusions. First, there has not been an Activation Turn, shift or transformation of ALMP, since the beginning of the 90’s within the state discourse. Second, the development of ALMP in Sweden can be characterized as fairly stable and resilient against changes.

Linguistic sexism : A study of sexist language in a British online newspaperDemberg, Rebecca January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this study is to investigate the occurrence of sexist language-use in the British online newspaper The Daily Mail. The material consists of 162 articles that were analysed by using feminist stylistics. The scope of the study was limited to selected features from feminist stylistics at word- and discourse-level. The features of linguistic sexism analysed were the use of gendered generic words, naming of females and males and how female and male characters are described. The gender of the journalists was also analysed to examine if it affected the language-use in terms of sexism. The results show that linguistic sexism is expressed to some extent at both word-level and discourse-level. At word-level linguistic sexism is expressed inthe generic use of some masculine words, the difference of how first name and surname are used to refer to women and men and in the use of titles. At the level of discourse linguistic sexism is expressed in the difference of how women and men are referred to in terms of their relationship to others and in terms of appearance. The gender of the journalist did not show any significance for the language-use in terms of sexism. Considering the limited material of the study, the results might not be suitable for generalisations. The results are nonetheless interesting and it can be concluded that the toolkit of feminist stylistic is relevant to this day and that linguistic sexism exists to some extent in the online version of The Daily Mail.

Direct simulation and reduced-order modeling of premixed flame response to acoustic modulationQiao, Zheng 13 May 2022 (has links) (PDF)
This dissertation introduces a general, predictive and cost-efficient reduced-order modeling (ROM) technique for characterization of flame response under acoustic modulation. The model is built upon the kinematic flame model–G-equation to describe the flame topology and dynamics, and the novelties of the ROM lie in i) a procedure to create the compatible base flow that can reproduce the correct flame geometry and ii) the use of a physically-consistent acoustic modulation field for the characterization of flame response. This ROM addresses the significant limitations of the classical kinematic model, which is only applicable to simple flame configurations and relies on ad-hoc models for the modulation field. The ROM is validated by considering the acoustically-excited premixed methane/air flames in conical and M-shape configurations. To test the model availability to practical burners, a confined flame configuration is also employed for model evaluation. Furthermore, to investigate the generality of the ROM to the burner flame, the performance of the ROM with respect to the V-shape and the swirled V-shape is investigated. The model accuracy is evaluated concerning flame geometrical features and flame describing function, and assessed by comparing the ROM results with both experimental measurements and direct- numerical-simulation results. It is found that the flame describing/transfer functions predicted by the ROM compare well with reference data, and are more accurate than those obtained from the conventional kinematic model built upon heuristically-presumed modulation fields.

Previous issue date: 2009-03-27 / The present research aims at describing the integration process among the artistic
languages taking place in some schools in Goiânia. They are: Centro de Ensino e Pesquisa
Aplicado à Educação Cepae/UFG (regular school), Centro Livre de Artes CLA (public
school for the teaching of Arts) and Mvsika! Centro de Estudos (private school for the
teaching of Arts). Thus the main theme in this work is the integrated arts. The option for such
an approach is not based on a devaluation of the musical education or any other specific area
of the artistic education. The work seeks a contextualization of education through art that
takes into account the current needs and changes influenced by globalization and the
efficiency of the information which has made the individual more demanding and thirsty for
something creative and different. This integration can happen in many ways, which have been
described as pluridisciplinarity, interdisciplinarity, and transdisciplinarity. Some principles,
defended by specialists, can help to understand each of these integration forms and, in this
work, give support to the description and analysis of the integrative processes.
This study seeks to describe and to analyze the practices that involve this integrative
methodology in three schools of Goiânia, presenting three case studies. In each of them, the
specific characteristics and the coherence level between the concepts and the practice of the
educators stand out. From the theoretical reference of this research, it is possible to
distinguish the presence of principles that classifies the practices as integrative and that help
to define the integration form proposed.
These practices are described considering, also, the situation of the integrative
experiences in other places around Brazil. To do so, contact with educators (ANPPOM,
ABEM, FAEB) that work with integrated artistic languages was attempted. Although only a
few answers were received, the information obtained help for a better understanding of the
data collected in the schools of Goiania.
Considering the description of the reality of each school, relations between the
information obtained through observation and the questionnaire are established, which brings
a broader view of each process. Finally, the specificity of each practice is focused, as well as
the common aspects of all of them, of what brings them together or draws them apart from the
theoretical reference of this work and the practices described by educators of other parts of
Brazil.

Uncertainty Modelling And Stability Analysis For 2-way Fuzzy Adaptive SystemsGurkan, Evren 01 January 2003 (has links) (PDF)
A novel fuzzy system named as 2-way fuzzy system is developed by combining
the intuitionistic fuzzy set theory with the fuzzy systems theory. The developed
system is used in modelling and minimizing uncertainty and inconsistency.
Uncertainty is the width of the interval introduced by the independent
assignment of membership and nonmembership functions of the intuitionistic
fuzzy sets / and inconsistency is the violation of the consistency inequality in
this assignment. The uncertainty and inconsistency is reduced through a 2
phase training. An evaluation of the degree of reduction of inconsistency is
carried out at the end of the rst phase of training by forming the shadowed
set patterns of the membership and nonmembership functions. The system is
further trained for a second phase in order to reduce uncertainty.
There are three dierent methods developed for the stability analysis of
fuzzy systems. The rst method is based on the approximating sequences
technique, and the design turns into an optimal control problem. In the sec ond analysis, describing function of a 2-way fuzzy system is evaluated analytically,
and a systematic design approach is developed using describing function
technique. The last analysis technique employs the Lie algebra theory in the
stability analysis of Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy systems. The theoretical results are
simulated on an application system, which is a
exible-joint robot arm system.

Previous issue date: 2009-12-16 / The oscillations presents in control loops can cause damages in petrochemical industry. Canceling, or even preventing such oscillations, would save up to large amount of dollars. Studies
have identified that one of the causes of these oscillations are the nonlinearities present on industrial process actuators. This study has the objective to develop a methodology for removal of the harmful effects of nonlinearities. Will be proposed an parameter estimation method to Hammerstein model, whose nonlinearity is represented by dead-zone or backlash. Výpočet chování paliva reaktorů VVER programem FEMAXI-6 / Calculation of VVER fuel performance using the FEMAXI-6 codeČásar, Ondřej January 2019 (has links)
The submitted master thesis deals with finding the right combination of models describing the cladding behavior implemented in the FEMAXI-6 computational code and then comparing it with the benchmark Zaporoshye, Novovoronezh and the modified FERMAXI 6 program with implemented models describing the E110 behavior used for VVER-type reactor fuel rods. Initially, there is a description of the FEMAXI-6 nuclear fuel analysis program including its structure, calculation mechanics and input file description. Furthermore, the work presents the benchmarks used to evaluate individual combinations of fuel models. An important part is the description of the PIE measurement, including measurement uncertainty, which can affect the results of the work. The next chapter contains a description of what affects fuel behavior during irradiation, which can be mathematically expressed and modeled. The following chapter describes the material equations defining the E110 alloy used as cladding of the fuel rods and which were subsequently implemented into the FEMAXI-6 computing program. The last chapter is devoted to the description of the results with appropriate comments.

Nonlinear devices characterization and micromachining techniques for RF integrated circuitsParvais, Bertrand J. H. 10 December 2004 (has links)
The present work is dedicated to the development of high performance integrated circuits for wireless communications, by acting of three different levels: technologies, devices, and circuits.
Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) CMOS technology is used in the frame of this work. Micromachining technologies are also investigated for the fabrication of three-dimensional tunable capacitors. The reliability of micromachined thin-film devices is improved by the coating of silanes in both liquid- and vapor-phases.
Since in telecommunication applications, distortion is responsible for the generation of spurious frequency bands, the linearity behavior of different SOI transistors is analyzed. The validity range of the existing low-frequency nonlinear characterization methods is discussed. New simple techniques valid at both low- and high-frequencies, are provided, based on the integral function method and on the Volterra series.
Finally, the design of a crucial nonlinear circuit, the voltage-controlled oscillator, is introduced. The describing function formalism is used to evaluate the oscillation amplitude and is embedded in a design methodology. The frequency tuning by SOI varactors is analyzed in both small- and large-signal regimes.

Modely hromadné obsluhy / Models of Queueing SystemsHorký, Miroslav January 2015 (has links)
The master’s thesis solves models of queueing systems, which use the property of Markov chains. The queueing system is a system, where the objects enter into this system in random moments and require the service. This thesis solves specifically such models of queueing systems, in which the intervals between the objects incomings and service time have exponential distribution. In the theoretical part of the master’s thesis I deal with the topics stochastic process, queueing theory, classification of models and description of the models having Markovian property. In the practical part I describe realization and function of the program, which solves simulation of chosen model M/M/m. At the end I compare results which were calculated in analytic way and by simulation of the model M/M/m.
