DESEMPENHO VERBAL DE PRE-ESCOLARES: EMISSAO E \"TATO\"FACE A FIGURAS

Rocha, Nadia Maria Dourado 02 July 1976 (has links)
The purposes of the present study were to investigate the influence of the dimension co1our in the emission of Tacts, face to pictures, and the vocabulary of preschool children. A group of forty-eight children of four, five, and six years old were the subjects during the research. In each age group the subjects were usually divided into two groups, the only difference being the order of presentation of coloured or black-white picture cards. The results in the PLDK indicate that : a)there were no significant differences in the performance , as a whole , face to colored or black-white cards ;. b) there were various significant correlations between achievement in each serie and the whole performance o The inter-series correlations however , were weak; c) further to the sequence of presentation , the results indicate that only the four years old group revealed better performance when the coloured set was presented showing the black-white one; d) regarding the sex variable, only once there was a difference between boys and girls e)considering the age variable, the younger children achieved a lower score than the older ones. The results collected after the presentation of the printed picture showed that the six years old group presented higher score when compared to the younger groups. The latter ones presented no differences among themselves. Considerering the variable sex, no difference was found. The scores particularly achieved by the presentation of the cards and printed picture were also compared and no significant correlation was found. Taking into consideration of the sample and lack of scientific information about performance in the PLDK Level P, mainly in Brazil, further research on the subject is suggested.

Virtual Test Environment for Motion Capture Shoots

Redavid, Claudio January 2012 (has links)
This master thesis presents the design of an implementation of a working prototype for an augmented motion capture acting environment. Motion capture (MoCap), the recording of movements to be applied to characters or objects in computer graphics simulations, is widely used in video games, advertisement, and cinema. MoCap is realized through different techniques, where one common problem is the efficiency to capture actor’s motion performances. To capture motions without obstacles for the motion detectors, actors act blindly, without graphic references while acting. Mistakes or a poor correlation between the actors performances and the computer graphics simulation requires the scene either to be taken many times or to be corrected afterwards in time-consuming post-production. These issues slow down the production process or lead to a low quality product. We suggest that one way to limit the problem of efficiency in motion capture is to let actors perform in a virtual environment. To this end, this master thesis presents a simple prototypeenvironment with the goal to support actors’ performances to improve motion capture efficiency. The idea is to surround an actor with four screens which display the virtual environment. A Microsoft Kinect camera is utilized for motion capture. Gestures are usedto trigger interactions between the actor and the virtual environment. Furthermore, the thesis explores the applicability of open source libraries, game engines, and inexpensivegeneral purpose technology. We suggest, as indicated by demonstrated validity, that virtual environments and augmented motion capture improve the conditions for actors, thus providing more efficient motion capture shots. However, further research and quantitative measurements are needed to understand and fully evaluate the effect of the presented prototype tool.

Field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) is a technology of great importance that allows the designers to produce specific purpose integrated circuits in a limited amount of time. The most important of their characteristics are their architecture and the ability of their design with the help of computers, the low power dissipation, as well as the need of a short amount of time to be reprogrammed. FPGAs are properly designed for digital filtering applications. The density of these programmable systems is such that a great amount of numerical calculations such as those that result via digital filtering can be applied to one device only. The advantages of FPGAs as for the implementation of digital filters is between others the great rates of sampling compared to traditional DSP chips, their low cost compared to a moderate ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) for applications that take up a large area, as well as the flexibility compared to alternative approaches for the implementation of FIR filters. Their most important characteristic is that they can be programmed on-chip and that they have the ability of being reprogrammed for the implementation of different filtering purposes. The aim of this thesis is to combine VLSI techniques and digital signal processing techniques and via the understanding of the computer architecture to create a useful application. To fulfill that purpose: a) a FIR filter was designed with the use of a hardware description language b) the filter was implemented by using an FPGA c) the filter was imported to an embedded system and it was connected to the bus of a microprocessor d) the filter was controlled by the microprocessor via a high-level programming language. The filter was designed using the VHDL language, specifically using structural methods, and its simulation was performed with Modelsim. Also the Project Navigator ISE of Xilinx was used to correct unwanted warnings and to program the FPGA Spartan 3E Starter Board. Some other subprograms of ISE were also used, such as Plan Ahead and ChipScope Pro in order to check the performance of the filter. The circuit is finally imported to an embedded system using the Embedded Developer’s Kit (EDK) of Xilinx. Microblaze was the microprocessor that was used to control the filter’s performance. Additionally, the performance of the filter is checked by using different coefficients of FIR filters by different windowing methods. The ideal values that are produced from Matlab are compared to those of the filter. Finally the power dissipation (static and dynamic) of the filter is measured using XPower Analyzer.

State of Secure Application Development for 802.15.4

Armstrong, Janell 16 April 2009 (has links) (PDF)
A wireless sensor network consists of small, limited-resource embedded systems exchanging environment data and activating controls. These networks can be deployed in hostile environments to monitor wildlife habitats, implemented in factories to locate mobile equipment, and installed in home environments to optimize the use of utilities. Each of these scenarios requires network security to protect the network data. The IEEE 802.15.4 standard is designed for WSN communication, yet the standard states that it is not responsible for defining the initialization, distribution, updating, or management of network public keys. Individuals seeking to research security topics will find that there are many 802.15.4-compliant development hardware kits available to purchase. However, these kits are not easily compared to each other without first-hand experience. Further, not all available kits are suitable for research in WSN security. This thesis evaluates a broad spectrum of 802.15.4 development kits for security studies. Three promising kits are examined in detail: Crossbow MICAz, Freescale MC1321x, and the Sun SPOT. These kits are evaluated based on their hardware, software, development environment, additional libraries, additional tools, and cost. Recommendations are made to security researchers advising which kits to use depending on their design needs and priorities. Suggestions are made to each company on how to further improve their kits for security research.

Diffuser: Packet Spraying While Maintaining Order : Distributed Event Scheduler for Maintaining Packet Order while Packet Spraying in DPDK / Diffusor: Packet Spraying While Upprätthålla Ordning : Distribuerad händelseschemaläggare för att upprätthålla paketordning medan Paketsprutning i DPDK

Purushotham Srinivas, Vignesh January 2023 (has links)
The demand for high-speed networking applications has made Network Processors (NPs) and Central Computing Units (CPUs) increasingly parallel and complex, containing numerous on-chip processing cores. This parallelism can only be exploited fully by the underlying packet scheduler by efficiently utilizing all the available cores. Classically, packets have been directed towards the processing cores at flow granularity, making them susceptible to traffic locality. Ensuring a good load balance among the processors improves the application’s throughput and packet loss characteristics. Hence, packet-level schedulers dispatch flows to the processing core at a packet granularity to improve the load balance. However, packet-level scheduling combined with advanced parallelism introduces out-of-order departure of the processed packets. Simultaneously optimizing both the load balance and packet order is challenging. In this degree project, we micro-benchmark the DPDK’s (Dataplane Development Kit) event scheduler and identify many performance and scalability bottlenecks. We find the event scheduler consumes around 40% of the cycles on each participating core for event scheduling. Additionally, we find that DSW (Distributed Software Scheduler) cannot saturate all the workers with traffic because a single NIC (Network Interface Card) queue is polled for packets in our test setup. Then we propose Diffuser, an event scheduler for DPDK that combines the functional properties of both the flow and packet-level schedulers. The diffuser aims to achieve optimal load balance while minimizing out-of-order packet transmission. Diffuser uses stochastic flow assignments along with a load imbalance feedback mechanism to adaptively control the rate of flow migrations to optimize the scheduler’s load distribution. Diffuser reduces packet reordering by at least 65% with ten flows of 100 bytes at 25 MPPS (Million Packet Per Second) and at least 50% with one flow. While Diffuser improves the reordering performance, it slightly reduces throughput and increases latency due to flow migrations and reduced cache locality / Efterfrågan på höghastighets-nätverksapplikationer har gjort nätverkspro-cessorer (NP) och centrala beräkningsenheter (CPU:er) alltmer parallella, komplexa och innehållande många processorkärnor.
