Důvody vysoce kvalifikovaných migrantů k návratu do Bosny a Hercegoviny po roce 2005 / Return Decisions of Highly Skilled Migrants in Bosnia and Herzegovina after 2005

Andrlová, Anna January 2020 (has links)
Brain drain, or human capital flight, is a phenomenon which represents a society-wide problem in the post-Dayton Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). At present, more than half of the people claiming BiH nationality live abroad, out of which a significant part possesses tertiary education. Loss of human capital carries negative socio-economic consequences which hinder the country's development. On the other hand, brain gain, i.e. return of highly skilled migrants to their country of origin, might reverse some of the unfavourable effects. Nevertheless, the phenomenon of the return of highly skilled migrants remains under researched not only within the region of the Western Balkans, but also on a global scale. Although this type of migration has increasingly attracted the attention of many scholars from various academic and non- academic fields, contemporary literature on this topic suffers from limitations and tends to oversimplify the returnees' motivations to purely economic incentives. This study attempts to describe the complex factors leading the highly skilled migrants to return to BiH. Based on the 33 respondents' subjective preferences from the spheres of career, family and lifestyle, this work provides an insight into the decisions of returnees in the context of the developing Western Balkan country.

Emigration and Political Stability : A quantitative analysis on the effects of emigration on political stability in developing states

Lindström, Andreas January 2021 (has links)
In this thesis, the relationship between emigration and political stability is explored.  The scope is limited to emigration from developing states to 20 OECD destination countries. The relationship is analysed with OLS regression with a host of democratic and stability controls. The variables are motivated by employing a theoretical framework constructed by reviewing previous theories and research where diverse consequences of emigration are discussed, such as brain drain, remittances, and governance. The regression hints at a positive relationship between emigration and political stability but remains largely statistically insignificant. Some major takeaways are that developing countries with greater democratic indicators have generally higher emigration rates and lower political instability. These results point to emigration as an overall positive force for developing countries, but dependent on how the country is governed.

The Filipino-American Care Chain : Gender, Transnational Migration and the Globalisation of Care

Nanna, Thydén January 2019 (has links)
By caring for children, the elders and the ill, care workers are fundamental for the global economy and for peoples’ well-being. As confirmed in this thesis, the majority of domestic workers are migrant women. Historically, however, women’s work has been unpaid, considered unproductive, and the significance of (migrant) women’s care work has widely been ignored in state policies. Arguing that migration research has overlooked the gender-migration- development nexus, the aim of this thesis was to examine the Filipino-American care chain. Through a feminist and intersectional perspective, this study showed how the creation of Filipino women as “natural caregivers” reproduce stereotypical images of female migrants as “others”. This paper was based on material gathering from a mixed method, and also demonstrated how care is organised around remittances and transnational parenting. Finally, this thesis concluded that the unequal distribution of care work is dependent on young women migrant workers taking on care and household responsibilities.

Comparison of Academic mobility and Scientific migration between Indonesia and Russian Federation : master's thesis / Сравнение академической мобильности и научной миграции между Индонезией и Российской Федерацией : магистерская диссертация

И., Jehanshah, F. I. January 2022 (has links)
The goal of this study is to describe and compare the brain drain phenomenon in Indonesian and Russian qualified human resources, as well as compare solutions that have been carried out by the governments of the two countries. The recommendations proposed by the author for the Indonesian government to follow the way of how the Russian government solves the brain drain problem. And also must improve a lot in the fields of higher education, scholarship policy, appreciation for the work of the nation's scientists and a very long bureaucracy. For the Russian government, increasing political stability and improving the quality of life of its citizens is the key to solving the brain drain problem.

Effects of Virtual Reality and Trajectory Visualization on Neurosurgical Training / Effekten av Virtuell Verklighet och Banvisualisering på Neurokirurgisk Träning

Wippich, Max January 2023 (has links)
With its increasing potential, Virtual Reality (VR) technology has found a growing presence in medical education. In the domain of neurosurgical training, VR has been thoroughly investigated, but gaps still persist, such as in the field of Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) and assistive visualizations. Thus, this thesis project aims at combining visualizations of motion captured surgical simulation data with a VR environment for training in the minimally invasive procedure of External Ventricular Drain (EVD) placement. A user study was conducted with the goal of investigating effectiveness (in terms of speed, confidence, and accuracy) when identifying certain features of the trajectory of a catheter simulating an EVD placement. The conditions compared were two visualization techniques, 4D-time density and trail, as well as a VR and desktop environment. The study employed a betweensubjects design when comparing visualizations and a within-subjects design when comparing environments. Results from 20 participants indicate a higher speed for the 4D-time density visualization compared to the trail visualization and no visualization in the VR environment. Participants also found the 4D-time density visualization significantly more helpful in VR compared to desktop, when identifying one of the features. The VR environment also had a significant positive impact on speed as well as confidence for certain combinations of the conditions, compared to the desktop environment. Further, participants tended to prefer the VR environment and found tasks easier in this environment. In conclusion, the 4D-time density visualization and VR environment have the potential to improve efficiency when interpreting and understanding the trajectory of a catheter during EVD placement.
