Bas : Det är fett

Hallgren, Joar January 2017 (has links)

Idea and Practice in Master Sheng Yen's "Pure Land on Earth'

Lee, Chih-liang 25 January 2011 (has links)
Humanistic Buddhism in Taiwan has become a mainstream in recent 2 decades. It¡¦s from local form to international organization, and uses the way of commercial management. On the other side, the Buddhist adopt a ¡§inner transformation¡¨ strategy to turn difficult words in the Buddhist Scripture into understandable saying. When Master Sheng Yen was a novice, he had already realized that ¡§the Buddha dharma is so great, but many people misunderstand it and so few people are willing to accept it.¡¨ Therefore, he decided to develop and promote Buddhist higher education. Master Sheng Yen held the religious spirit of universal delivery ,tireless in all his efforts. He established the Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township, Taipei County, in order to practice the Threefold Education¡XExtensive Academic Education, Extensive Public Buddhist Education, and Extensive Social Care Education¡Xwhich is the foundation on which to realize the vision of ¡§uplifting the character of humanity and building a pure land on Earth¡¨. The Master would like to spread the Dharma in language and ideas that people can relate to. For this reason, the Master proposed a series of social movements, hoped to provide concepts and methods applicable in today¡¦s life. These methods include ¡§the Spiritual Environment¡¨,¡¨ Four Kinds of Environmentalism¡¦, ¡§the Fivefold Spiritual Renaissance Campaign¡¨, and ¡§the Six Ethics of the Mind¡¨. The Master is a legendary people. The vision of ¡§uplifting the character of humanity and building a pure land on Earth¡¨ has opened a new sight in Taiwan.

Genetic studies for aquaculture and stock-enhancement of red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus)

Ma, Liang 17 September 2007 (has links)
Hypervariable, nuclear-encoded microsatellites were used to (i) estimate genetic effective size (Ne) of red drum spawning over a two-week period in nine brood tanks at a TPWD hatchery; (ii) estimate heritability of early-larval growth and of growth rate and cold tolerance of juveniles; and (iii) test Mendelian segregation and independent assortment of 31 nuclear-encoded microsatellites. Assuming all tanks contributed equally to an offspring population, the maximum (expected) and observed Ne over the nine brood tanks was 43.2 and 27.0, respectively. The estimate of Ne based on observed variation in family size was 19.4. Simulations indicated that over a limited time period the simplest approach to maximizing Ne for a release population would be to utilize equal numbers of progeny from each brood tank. A family (genetic) effect was found to contribute significantly to the variance in early larval growth, juvenile growth rate, and cold tolerance. Estimates of narrow-sense heritability for these three traits were 0.07 +- 0.03, 0.52 +- 0.21 and 0.20 +- 0.10 (two growth intervals measured), and 0.30 +- 0.11, respectively, under the genetic models employed. The relatively low estimate of heritability for early larval growth suggests that genetic improvement for this trait likely would be slow. The heritability estimates for juvenile growth rate and cold tolerance, alternatively, suggest that genetic selection for these traits could be effective. Segregation at all 31 microsatellites fit Mendelian expectations for autosomal loci; a null allele was inferred at two of the microsatellites. Results from pairwise tests of independent assortment demonstrated that 20 of the 31 microsatellites could be placed into seven linkage groups. Additional linkage groups inferred from a prior study increased the number of inferred linkage groups in red drum to nine, with a range of two - five (avg. = 2.78) microsatellites in each linkage group. The remaining 11 microsatellites tested in this study assorted independently from all other microsatellites, suggesting the possibility of 11 additional linkage groups.

Nguyen, Xuan Thiet 10 July 2008 (has links) (PDF)

Becoming American Onstage: Broadway Narratives of Immigrant Experiences in the United States

Craft, Elizabeth Titrington January 2014 (has links)
This dissertation examines the Americanization of immigrants as a defining theme in American musical theater. It does so through studies of productions from across the past century about Irish Americans, Chinese Americans, and Latino/a Americans, and in each case, at least one of the creators is a member of the ethnic American group depicted. I contend that these artists found the musical to be a constructive tool for voicing their experiences of the struggle of Americanization and broadening notions of American identity. The resulting narrative expands upon the substantial "golden age"-centered literature on Jewish assimilation and the American musical. Decentralizing the "golden age," I show how the genre has helped write into cultural citizenship a broad range of immigrant groups during fraught periods in which their national belonging was contested. I draw upon a wide range of disciplines - especially immigration history, ethnic studies, and American studies as well as musicology - and diverse methods, including archival research, oral history, textual and musical analysis, reception history, and historically based hermeneutics. / Music

Development and use of a discrete element model for simulating the bulk strand flow in a rotary drum blender

Dick, Graeme 11 1900 (has links)
In 2006 resin accounted for approximately 17% of the direct manufacturing costs for oriented strand board (OSB). Because of their increased dependency on pMDI-resins, this percentage is likely greater for oriented strand lumber (OSL) and laminated strand lumber (LSL). The cost of PF- and pMDI-resins is expected to face upward pressure as the cost of their primary constituents, natural gas and crude oil, continue to reach new highs. Therefore, there is strong economic incentive to optimize the use of resin in the production of these three products. This can be accomplished by addressing two key issues: reducing resin wastage and optimizing resin distribution on the strands. Both issues will be overcome by focusing on the blending process, where resin is applied to the strands. This work focused on development and use of a discrete element model (DEM) for simulating strand flow in a rotary drum blender using the EDEM software package. EDEM required the input of three material and three interaction properties. Development of the model involved creating the simulated environment (i.e. physical dimensions) and assigning appropriate material and interaction properties given this environment and the assumptions that were made. This was accomplished in two steps, completing baseline bench-top experiments and a literature review to determine appropriate parameters and initial value ranges for these properties, and then fine-tuning these values based on a validation process. Using the validated model, an exploratory study was conducted to determine the effect of four blender design and operating parameters (flight height, number of flights, blender rotational speed, and blender fill level) on bulk strand flow. The results were analyzed with regards to overall trends and by focusing on two perspectives, end users and blender manufacturers. It was found that there was a strong relationship between these key parameters and bulk strand flow. These results suggest that operating parameters of a blender, namely rotational speed and tilt angle, should be linked directly to the blender feed rate to ensure an optimal blending environment is maintained. In addition, manufacturers of blenders must take into consideration the range in final operating conditions when designing and positioning flights.

He's Got Great Feel, But What Do You Mean?

Cook, Alexander 05 April 2013 (has links)
The field of popular music studies currently lacks effective and extensive discourse on drumming and rhythmic parameters in general. Some important preliminary work exists primarily due to significant contributions by relatively few authors. This thesis serves to expand this literature by providing a detailed explanation of many of the primary elements involved in the intricate practice of rock drumming. Additionally, it expands the literature on the music of Jimi Hendrix by thoroughly exploring the musical contributions Mitch Mitchell made as the drummer for the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Mitchell's stylistic approach to rock drumming is illuminated through analysis of the drum parts in four of the group's songs. An explanation of rock drumming in general and one effective individual approach are present within the work.
