Flores-Pereira, Maria Tereza January 2007 (has links)
The theme of organizational culture has been visibly deepened – changing its epistemological base (from a Functionalist paradigm to an interpretative one) generating different conceptual (from a managerial to a symbolic approach) and methodological perspectives (from quantitative to qualitative researches). However, in spite of all these advances, the theme has not been following the development reached by anthropological studies, which focus the body as a form of representing the culture. Therefore, it is my aim in this thesis to unveil in what way the focus on the human body propitiates a better understanding of the notion of organizational culture, starting from two theoretical orientations which work with the relation body-culture: the ‘body artifact’ (socio-historiccultural body) and the ‘embodiment’. In order to perform both analyses, I begin with observations resulting from an organizational ethnography in a great bookstore of shopping center, Livraria Cultura de Porto Alegre. The group of informers who have been privileged to participate in these analyses was the team of shop assistants. Based on this empirical material and, firstly, on studies of The Anthropology of Body (chapter two), I analyzed the body of the worker as an organizational artifact which is singularized by their dynamic feature, hierarchization, and political dimension. Based on these analyses, it was possible to reconsider the feature of inanimate object and the little attention that is offered to questions like classification, hierarchization, and political dimension of organizational artifacts. In the second part (chapter three), I indicate the pre-objective cultural relation (pre-reflexive) that the workers establish with the organizations and the products they commercialize, that is, the embodiment of organizational culture. Hence, I start from studies of Philosophy, Social, and Human Sciences to understand how studies of embodiment enable a new form of conducting methodologically researches about organizational culture and how they develop their conceptualization. I indicate that the focus on embodiment unveil the active role the body has in the organizational life and allows a better understanding of the dynamics of cultural concept.

Patent ownership : rights to employee inventions

McBride, Vanessa Ann 11 1900 (has links)
A patent is an intellectual property right granted as a reward for the labours of the inventor so as to commercially exploit the invention in return for disclosure of the invention. The benefits of the patent system find perfect expression in the employment situation since the employer is better equipped to exploit the invention through provision of resources and capital whereas the employee is provided with an opportunity to develop his technical know-how. A comparative study of the laws pertaining to employee inventions in the United Kingdom, Federal Republic of Germany and the United States of America reveals a variety of approaches to the subject of employee inventions. The approach of the South African law on the subject is inadequate and legal reform is a necessity. The recommendations for such reform encapsulates a blend of the best features of each of the three national approaches to employee inventions. / Mercentile Law / LL. M. (Law)

Handicap psychique et exclusion sociale : Place des phénomènes cliniques et psychopathologique dans les risques d’expulsion d’un logement / Psychological handicap and social exclusion : clinical and psychopathological phenomena in the risks of housing eviction

Fèvre, Eric 11 May 2017 (has links)
The handicap psychique (psychological handicap) is a French expression which has imposed itself recently. It is the subject of various meanings. We place it in the very broad context of vulnerabilities and in the more restricted situations of handicap. While it is commonly accepted that psychological handicap is a social consequence of a mental disease, we show that people with handicap of psychological origin (HOPO) have no proven mental disorder and do not undergo any psychiatric treatment. We rely on the experience of a plan called Médiation logement. In this “Housing mediation” clinical psychologists meet people who are reclusive in their homes, or who exhibit behaviour or neighbourhood disturbances. Those people have no psychiatric history and we show that they share a common feature: a discrete incapacitating syndrome of psychological origin (DISOPO). This leads us to give a new definition of psychological handicap. Then we propose a clinical reading tool that would allow a team to make an early diagnosis of this DISOPO that appears in a person with a singular fragility when faced with personal and / or social traumatic of stressful event.

Att shoppa online i butik - Hinder och möjligheter / To shop online in store - Obstacles and possibilities

Levehag, Tora January 2018 (has links)
Quality improvement requires continuous improvement to meet and exceed the customers needs. This study has been made by the student at the company MQ and the chosen part of the organisation is one of their stores located in Motala. The background to the study is that less traffic in visiting customers has been noticed which may have to do with the increasing e-commerce and onlineshopping. The store offers the service ”To shop online in store” where the customer can shop from the whole collection – MQ offer around 60 brands that are only available online. The store has a big touchscreen where the customer can see all products in big size and shop through a sent link from the screen where they finish the purchase through their phone. The aim of the study is to give improvement proposals according the service so they can keep their customers. Obstacles and possibilites concerning the service has been reviewed through interviews with the staff and a customersurvey on customer behavior has been made. The biggest improvementarea turned out to be the lack of knowing the service shop online in store is existing. Almost every purchase that is being made through the screen is made on initiative from the staff. Communication and marketing about the screen to reach out to the customers is therefore proposed to focus on and also the improvement to keep up with the growing e-commerce.

The Artificial Immunologic System developed in this project was based on the structure, architecture and functioning of the Biological or Natural Immune Systems. The use of Genetic Algorithm (GA) became necessary to represent the antibodies and antigens of the AIS. Each individual generated for the GA represented a processed task set library in a set of machines. The evaluation of each individual was given by a fitness function that represents the process of natural selection. The evolution of the individuals, and population as a consequence was obtained by applying the genetic operators of crossover e mutation. The machines and the tasks used for the scheduling represent the problem of Job Shop Scheduling (JSS). Some classic tests of the literature where applied to the problem in order to verify the viability of the AIS on the treatment of task of scheduling problems. Those tests also demonstrated the system s behavior its entire execution, therefore, allowing for a detailed analysis of the system s functionalities sets for certain time period. The representation of the natural immunologic systems through computational algorithms inspires from all over world researchers. The motivation is that the immunologic systems possess parallelism characteristics adaptability and learning, which can be applied in several problems found in many areas, had its portability.

Theoretical and practical aspects of ant colony optimization

Blum, Christian 23 January 2004 (has links)
Combinatorial optimization problems are of high academical as well as practical importance. Many instances of relevant combinatorial optimization problems are, due to their dimensions, intractable for complete methods such as branch and bound. Therefore, approximate algorithms such as metaheuristics received much attention in the past 20 years. Examples of metaheuristics are simulated annealing, tabu search, and evolutionary computation. One of the most recent metaheuristics is ant colony optimization (ACO), which was developed by Prof. M. Dorigo (who is the supervisor of this thesis) and colleagues. This thesis deals with theoretical as well as practical aspects of ant colony optimization.

* A survey of metaheuristics. Chapter 1 gives an extensive overview on the nowadays most important metaheuristics. This overview points out the importance of two important concepts in metaheuristics: intensification and diversification.

* The hyper-cube framework. Chapter 2 introduces a new framework for implementing ACO algorithms. This framework brings two main benefits to ACO researchers. First, from the point of view of the theoretician: we prove that Ant System (the first ACO algorithm to be proposed in the literature) in the hyper-cube framework generates solutions whose expected quality monotonically increases with the number of algorithm iterations when applied to unconstrained problems. Second, from the point of view of the experimental researcher, we show through examples that the implementation of ACO algorithms in the hyper-cube framework increases their robustness and makes the handling of the pheromone values easier.

* Deception. In the first part of Chapter 3 we formally define the notions of first and second order deception in ant colony optimization. Hereby, first order deception corresponds to deception as defined in the field of evolutionary computation and is therefore a bias introduced by the problem (instance) to be solved. Second order deception is an ACO-specific phenomenon. It describes the observation that the quality of the solutions generated by ACO algorithms may decrease over time in certain settings. In the second part of Chapter 3 we propose different ways of avoiding second order deception.

* ACO for the KCT problem. In Chapter 4 we outline an ACO algorithm for the edge-weighted k-cardinality tree (KCT) problem. This algorithm is implemented in the hyper-cube framework and uses a pheromone model that was determined to be well-working in Chapter 3. Together with the evolutionary computation and the tabu search approaches that we develop in Chapter 4, this ACO algorithm belongs to the current state-of-the-art algorithms for the KCT problem.

* ACO for the GSS problem. Chapter 5 describes a new ACO algorithm for the group shop scheduling (GSS) problem, which is a general shop scheduling problem that includes among others the well-known job shop scheduling (JSS) and the open shop scheduling (OSS) problems. This ACO algorithm, which is implemented in the hyper-cube framework and which uses a new pheromone model that was experimentally tested in Chapter 3, is currently the best ACO algorithm for the JSS as well as the OSS problem. In particular when applied to OSS problem instances, this algorithm obtains excellent results, improving the best known solution for several OSS benchmark instances. A final contribution of this thesis is the development of a general method for the solution of combinatorial optimization problems which we refer to as Beam-ACO. This method is a hybrid between ACO and a tree search technique known as beam search. We show that Beam-ACO is currently a state-of-the-art method for the application to the existing open shop scheduling (OSS) problem instances.

/ Doctorat en sciences appliquées / info:eu-repo/semantics/nonPublished
