A VISUALIZATION TOOL FOR CYBERSECURITY EDUCATION FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

<p>Technology evolves at such a rapid pace nowadays, keeping up with education on cyber security tends to fall. Even with the rising threats, people put their personal information in their computers without knowing who could access the information. Many people keep their personal information online when they do shopping, banking, or on social media. These online activities attract adversaries that may have malicious attentions. The lack of cyber security practices is evident as we often hear the news of large-scale cyberattack incidents against financial institutions that leads to breach of personal information of their users. Cyber-attacks can have long term damaging effects. Cybersecurity awareness is necessary to start at an early age. If this subject is delivered to young users as an interactive tutorial, using game-based principles, then it is more likely to be learned in an entertaining manner. Hence, this thesis project focuses on a framework development for interactive and engaging cybersecurity education and its evaluation. </p> <p>The framework is developed to educate the users various cybersecurity related topics, such as malware, web security, and network security. It consists four stages for each topic: information, interaction, explanation, and assessment. In the information module, the user is presented details related to the topic. To maintain users’ interest, interaction module allows users to interrelate with common hacking attacks from real life situations. Explanation module provides the discussion of interaction module and introduces defense techniques. The users are tested in the Assessment module to measure their learning to be able to advance to next levels within the same topic. The developed framework is customizable since more modules can be integrated and existing modules can be swiftly modified. In addition, multiple surveys were conducted to analyze whether this framework explains the cybersecurity topics easily. </p>

Design av multi-tool koncept

I den här rapporten redovisar jag processen och resultatet av kandidatexamensarbetet på ett uppdrag av Mirka Ab. Projektet går ut på att ta fram ett koncept på en trådlös batteridriven multi-tool med Mirkas formspråk. Vi beslöt att göra arbetet i ett koncpetstadie för att enklare kunna visa resultatet för allmänheten. Mirkas powertools formsprutas idag i plast och tanken är att multi-toolen skulle tillverkas på samma sätt och av samma material. Hela designprocessen finns med i rapporten; analysfasen, kreativa fasen och presentations fasen. I analysfasen så samlades nödvändig data från den existerande multi-toolsmarknaden, via nätet, besök i varuhus och jag hade också tillgång till två multi-tools som jag kunde analysera mera i detalj. Efter att analysen var klar så gick arbetet över till kreativa fasen där först kreativa metoder användes för att få upp en större mängd skisser med idéer. När det fanns tillräckligt med idéer så gjordes skisser i perspektiv med mera detaljerade former på de ideér som verkade mest lovande. Efter ytterligare skissande så gjordes tre modeller i grönskum för ett första användartest. Efter det första användartestets feedback så gjordes ytterligare två modeller med förfinade grepp. Resultatet av det andra användartestet gav det sista som behövdes för att tillverka en slutgiltig presentationsmodell. Resultatet presenterades för publik i Sundsvall på Mittuniversitetet och i Jeppo, Finland vid Mirka Ab.

Thus, currently, companies are aimed to deliver orders to their respective customers on time, in good condition and complete. This file focuses on the importance of warehouse management for mass consumption distributors, since it's the warehouses that determine the operation and productivity costs of these. Thus, some innovative techniques such as the lean warehouse and allocation tools improve working conditions with the aim of reducing downtime and distances. A pilot programme of implementation of the tools mentioned in the warehouse of a wholesale distributor was carried out. As a result of the research, the distance traveled in the warehouse was reduced by 22%, the reduction of times in the picking process, achieving the optimal delivery time and generating an increase in the sales made of 215,720.22 soles. These results prove to be decisive in the performance of the supply chain (inventory, cost, delay and risk), since the key to success for this industry is to satisfy the needs of customers in the shortest possible time.

Design and Evaluation of a Web-Based Programming Tool to Improve the Introductory Computer Science Experience

Introductory computer science courses can be notoriously difficult for students, especially those outside of the major. There are many reasons for this, but the programming software itself may play a significant role.  To address this issue, we have developed Pythy, a web-based programming environment that allows students to write, execute, and test programming assignments from within the familiar interface of a web browser.  In this work, we discuss various aspects of Pythy in detail, including the rationale behind its design, the system architecture on which it is built, and the various functions offered by the software.  Next, we discuss an evaluation of Pythy\'s effectiveness during a programming course for non CS-majors offered at Virginia Tech, comparing it to a different software solution used in another programming course.  Results suggest that Pythy was successful in several target areas, including making it easier to get started with programming and providing feedback about program behavior.  Access log data from Pythy itself reveals details about how students used the system.  Finally, we conclude with a summary of key contributions and suggest some potential future directions for the system. / Master of Science

Comparison of Open Source License Scanning Tools

We aim to determine the features of four popular FOSS scanning tools, FOSSology,FOSSA, FOSSID(SCAS), and Black Duck, thereby providing references for users tochoose a proper tool for performing open-source license compliance in their projects.The sanity tests firstly verify the license detection function by using the above tools toscan the same project. We consider the number of found licenses and scanned sizes asmetrics of their accuracy. Then we generate testing samples in different programminglanguages and sizes for further comparing the scanning efficiency. The experiment datademonstrate that each tool would fit different user requirements. Thus this project couldbe considered as a definitive user guide.

Medical Floor Confusion Assessment Method: Implementation and Assessment of Risk Factors

An estimated 50% of older hospitalized patients experience delirium. This has created significant complications costing an estimated $164 billion or more per year worldwide. The ability to identify patients developing delirium would allow the implementation of specific interventions to decrease or eliminate the adverse effects of delirium. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to provide high quality delirium education to determine if medical unit nursing staff could successful implement the Confusion Assessment Method (CAM) screening tool to identify patients experiencing delirium as the first phase of an overall plan. Implementation of the project followed Roger's diffusion of innovations theory. Patients were additionally screened for 5 potential risk factors of delirium from the multifactorial model of delirium to determine if delirium could be identified in the local population admitted to a single hospital. With a high quality education intervention, the staff nurses on the medical unit successfully implemented the CAM into their nursing practice and accurately identified delirium. Nurses identified delirium and subsyndromal delirium in 25% of the 208 patients in the study population. Consistent with the literature, patients who had a urinary catheter and experienced an iatrogenic event were predictors of delirium. An additional predictor of delirium, not included in the multifactorial model of delirium, included patients receiving benzodiazepines. This quality improvement project suggests that quality delirium education combined with the use of an accurate delirium detection tool could predict delirium accurately in the medical floor population. This has the potential to reduce the impact of delirium on patients, hospital staff, and reduce hospital expenditures.

Transforming Vulnerable Interactions to Effective Communication: An Application of Evidence for the Tele-Intensive Care Unit Nurse

Tele-intensive care collaboration in care of critically ill patients improves both the safety and quality of nursing care. However, the full benefits of the telemedicine service may not be realized unless tele-critical care nurses have the ability to communicate clearly with their remote nursing peers. The purpose of this DNP project was to create and validate an acronym style communication tool to assist the tele-critical care nurses with their communication. The relational coordination theory was the primary communication theory utilized for tool development. The tool creation phase of the project included informal observations and discussion with a convenience sample of 11 tele-critical care staff nurses. The formative feedback from this group helped to identify the episode of communication for which the tool was designed and suggested communication elements for inclusion. During the validation phase of this project, 9 volunteer experts evaluated the communication tool with a 5-point Likert scale survey. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the survey results and provided summative feedback for validation of the tool. Mean scores between 3.44 and 4.44 demonstrated that the experts agreed with the applicability, relevance, and necessity of the tool. Feedback indicated the need for a pilot study implementing the tool to compare it with traditional communication practices and to evaluate its performance in clinical practice. This tool will be useful for future partnerships utilizing telemedicine. The project is socially significant because of its focus on communication and collaboration among healthcare providers in facilitating the patient experience and safety.

Impact of a Standardized Tool on Handoff Quality in Nurse Change-of-Shift Reports

Within the context of healthcare delivery, human lives are at risk when health care professionals fail to communicate effectively. Audits by The Joint Commission from 1995 to 2005 revealed that 65% of sentinel events occurred as a result of staff miscommunication, prompting the requirement that standardized handoff tools be deployed. Therefore, this project was completed to improve safety in the hospital through implementation of a standardized tool that could enhance the quality of nurse handoff communication. Mohorek & Webb's (2015) linear model of communication, which emphasizes the importance of encoding, transmission, and decoding in the communication process, provided the framework for this project. Participants included 11 registered nurses (RNs) and 14 licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) who completed the pre-and-post intervention survey using the Handover Evaluation Scale. The RNs reflected significant difference in improvement in the perceived quality of handoff following the implementation of standardized handoff tool: pre-test (M = 66.91, SD = 7.27) compared to post-test (M = 80.91, SD = 7.45); t(10) = -5.09, p = 0.000. On the other hand, there was no statistically significant change noted with the LVN group before implementation of standardized handoff tool: pre-test (M = 70.71, SD = 9.72) compared to post- test implementation (M = 73.57, SD = 7.73); t(13) = -1.06, p = 0.309. The findings resulting from this project suggest that there are important differences in provider types when using standardized handoff tools and that more attention to this dynamic is warranted. The social change mandate of protecting the safety of patients is enhanced through effective communication among nurses and was demonstrated in the project.

Evaluating a Financial Assessment Tool: The Financial Checkup

The purpose of this study was to evaluate The Financial Checkup program. The program consisted of a booklet called The Financial Checkup and a 1-1 y, hour workshop explaining the booklet. The booklet helps individuals evaluate their financial situation on an annual basis. It includes a net worth statement, an income and expense statement, financial ratios, a revolving savings worksheet, a retirement worksheet, a life insurance worksheet, a financial goals worksheet, and a budget worksheet. The Financial Checkup covers the topics of debt, savings, retirement, taxes, insurance, goals, and budgeting. The stages of change model developed by James Prochaska was used to evaluate the financial situation of the participants. The model includes five stages that individuals advance through as they make behavior changes. The stages are precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance. The Financial Checkup helped individuals progress along the stages of change. Twenty-nine percent of the individuals who participated in The Financial Checkup program advanced at least one stage compared to 2 1% of the control group. Seven percent of the treatment group regressed one or more stages compared to 17% of the control group. The Financial Checkup program was especially effective in helping individuals complete and understand a net worth statement and an income and expense statement. On the posttest, all participants in the treatment group indicated that they knew what a net worth statement and an income and expense statement were. On the 3-month follow-up survey, 50% of the treatment group had completed a net worth statement and 63% had completed an income and expense statement. The Financial Checkup program was most effective for helping participants advance along the stages of change and improve their financial situation in the area of debt. Of the treatment group participants, 51% indicated an improvement in stages for their debt situation. Other areas of substantial improvement were the areas of savings, taxes, homeowners insurance, retirement, and auto insurance.

The authors are medical librarians who worked as consultants, trainers and project directors to promote health literacy using PubMed medline and other health information resources in the several funding projects described here. We explain the programmes briefly, focusing on lessons learned and suggestions for those who follow us.
