Exploration of Explanatory Variables in the Creation of Linear Regression Models and Logistic Regression Models to Predict the Performance of Preservice Teachers on the Science Portion of the EC-6 TExES Certification Examination

Alexis, Naudin 12 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to analyze the current and pre-service conditions that can affect student teachers' preparedness to pass the science portion of the EC-6 Texas Examinations for Educator Standards (TExES), one of the mandatory certification exam to become a teacher in Texas. Two types of prediction models were employed in this study: binomial logistic regression and multiple linear regression. The independent variables used in this study were: final grade in BIOL 1082, classification of students, transfer status, taken college biology, taken college chemistry, taken college physics, taken college environmental science, taken college earth science, attending college part-time, number of credits taken during the semester, first-generation college student, relatives with degree in education, and current GPA. The dependent variable of this study was the posttest score on science portion of the EC-6 TExES practice exam. A total of 170 preservice teachers participated this study. This study used students enrolled in BIOL 1082, who volunteered to take a Biology for Educators QualtricsTM survey and the EC-6 TExES practice exam in a pretest (start of semester) and posttest (end of semester) form. The findings of this study revealed that the single best predictor of preservice teachers' performance on the science portion of EC-6 TExES practice certification examination was the Grade in BIOL 1082.

Parametersökning i lagrat EKG / Parameter Searching in Stored ECG

Josefsson, Jonathan January 2020 (has links)
Cardiolex Medical AB has an ambition that ECG should be easy to use, they sell ECG systems compatible with all types of electrodes and has special knowledge in ECG modulation. Today Cardiolex has three products to manage ECG examinations and patient information with EC view and EC Store. Their ECG system is operating with EC Sense and together with EC View and EC Store, Cardiolex offer a complete solution available to use with many softwares and systems at the market. With EC Store, examinations can be saved and found in the database and EC View is a client for reviewing and making medical assessments. Moreover, Cardiolex has a vision to offer a wider functionality for researchers, who research in ECG. Therefore, an extended search tool was important for future functionality in the products. To get a better insight in which of the ECG measurements was of interest to implement in a search function, a literature study of today’s recherche is summarised in this project. The ST-value was considered one of the most common parameters, therefore this parameter was decided to be implemented in the search function. The function which return a ST-amplitude value stored in the examination, was created in Visual Studios, with the language SQL. The data from the function became represented of a SQL-view which can sort data during a searching process in the database.

Democracy Promotion in Afghanistan : The top-down or bottom-up approaches of EU or US

Adel, Enayatulla January 2015 (has links)
Democracy promotion is a key objective in both US and EU foreign development policy. The study attempts to provide a better understanding of both actors democracy promotion in Afghanistan. The US and the EU are perceived to have different approaches regarding democracy promotion. Therefor the study examines if US used top-down and EU bottom-up approaches respective coercive and persuasive methods. Approaches used by actors are examined in the study regarding democracy promotion in the case of Afghanistan. It is a case study with qualitative text analysis and the theories used are top-down and bottom up channels of democracy, and persuasive and stick methods. The survey has looked at the both actors’ commitment in Afghanistan during period of 2001-2014. The result shows that the US and EU have more similarities than differences in the case of Afghanistan and actors have combined both top-down and bottom-approaches in promotion of democracy and focused on cooperation and partnership.

Verifiering av Kedertakstolen

Fornander, Erik January 2010 (has links)
<p>The Kedertruss is the loadbearing part in the Keder weatherprotectionsystem and it has been analyzed concerning its loadbearing capacity. The Kedertruss is produced and manufactured by Wilhelm Layher GmbH & Co. KG and this report has been made for their Swedish division Layher AB.  The Kedertruss, designed in Germany according to German designcode, has been recalculated concerning Swedish conditions according to Eurocodes and a ongoing European standardization project. The two-dimensional program Winstatik Frame Analysis has been used for evaluation of load effects. Capacity has been calculated by hand-calculations and it has been verified that the Kedertruss in its larger spans isn’t able to withstand the loads. The main problem is the greater snowloads which has been proofed to be the most unfavorable load for the Kedertruss. Apart from the commission from Layher AB a parametric controlled model of the Kedertruss has been made in Revit Structure</p>

Tax Treaties and EC Law : Development, Problems and Solutions

Muren, Gustaf, Krohn, Peter January 2008 (has links)
Double taxation treaties play a vital part in the international relations between states regarding taxation matters. Since double taxation can occur as soon as a person has income in more than one state, it is very important that there can be effective remedies to the problems that can occur in these situations. Double taxation treaties are necessary in most situations created by international trade and they are even more important in such a free flowing economic co-operation such as the EU, where the trade between the Member States is not only free but also very frequent. Most double taxation treaties are based on the Model Treaty created by the OECD. Even states not members of the organization use it as a model for their treaties. This means that treaties between Member States of the EC are often rather similar, but many times have been drafted without consideration taken to EC law. This can create problems since the European Court of Justice (ECJ) has stated in its case law that even though the Member States are solely competent when it comes to direct taxation, that competence must be used in accordance with EC law. Since double taxation treaties are directed at flows of income and capital between states, it is most probable that they can run afoul of EC law. After some judgments of the ECJ the situation is clearer now, but there are still some possible future problems. Examples of such problems are trailing taxes, limitations of benefits and the most favoured nation (MFN) principle. The latter has been before the Court, but there are many questions surrounding the MFN principle that has not been answered satisfactorily. Even if more cases are brought before the Court and it gives more guidance on how the Member States shall conclude treaties with each other, it is still preferable with proper EC legislation on the subject. It must also be mentioned that the ECJ has shown reluctance to disrupting the tax treaty networks in place and has been reluctant to dismiss rules based on the OECD Model Treaty. Several different solutions to these problems have been put forward, ranging from doing almost nothing and just letting the development in the case law have its way to a complete regulation of these issues through legislation by the EC. The two most interesting solutions presented are a Multilateral EU Tax Treaty or an EU Model Tax Treaty. Both of these two different methods would mean that the problems would have a proper solution in that it would implement common rules that would be applicable over the whole of the EU.
