Extracting ECA rules from UML

Palmadottir, Julia January 2001 (has links)
Active technology in database management systems (DBMS) enables the movement of behaviour dependent on the system’s state, from the application software to a rule base in the DBMS. With active technology in database systems, the problem of how to design active behaviour has become an important issue. Modelling processes do not foresee support for design of active rules which can lead to conflicts between the event-condition-action (ECA) rules representing the active behaviour and the application systems, using the active DBMS. The unified modelling language (UML) is a widely used notation language and is the main subject in this project. Its features will be investigated to acknowledge to what extend UML modelling diagrams provide information that can be used to formulate ECA rules. To achieve this, two methods where developed. One of the methods was applied on use-case UML modelling diagrams. The use-case models were developed by means of reflecting a real-life organisation. The results from applying the method on the use-case models were that there are features in UML that can be expressed with ECA rules. DECISION SUPPORT FOR RAPID ASSESSMENT OF TRUTH AND DECEPTION USING AUTOMATED ASSESSMENT TECHNOLOGIES AND KIOSK-BASED EMBODIED CONVERSATIONAL AGENTS

Patton, Mark January 2009 (has links)
A pressing need exists for effective decision support systems to facilitate the rapid and accurate screening of large volumes of people. Millions of travelers transit through international borders and secure areas on an annual basis. Humans are exceptionally poor at detecting lying and deception and perform, on average, no better than chance. This research study focuses on the development, design and implementation of a Kiosk for Rapid Assessment of Deception (K-RAD) that integrates questioning with response processing and deception detection. An exploratory pilot study (N=68) and a primary study (N=225) were executed. The K-RAD was designed to have a three-dimensional figure, an "Embodied Conversational Agent" (ECA), deliver the questions through speech. This delivery mechanism was chosen because human subjects have been shown in the past to react emotionally to ECAs during conversational interactions, and emotional arousal is one of the cues to deception. Responses were analyzed for deception cues, focusing on kinesic, linguistic, and vocalic characteristics that can be captured for automated processing and which would be unique to this setting. The results show unique subject behaviors. Subjects exhibited minimal movement and had very little tendency to change posture. Some subjects (6%) referred to the ECA as an authority figure, using "sir" when responding. Subjects positioned themselves at varying distances from the ECA, with significant gender differences. Post-experiment surveys indicated a gender difference in overall stress, with female subjects reporting significantly higher levels, independent of the experimental condition.Postural-based logistic regression created significant classification models for the pilot (59.1% classification accuracy) and primary (57.2% & 62.8% classification accuracies) studies. Movement analysis had varying and conflicting results. A robust deception index with a 68.1% classification accuracy was achievable in the pilot study based on high-frequency movement and arm placement. Primary study deception indices were not significant. The results include a comprehensive set of observations and lessons learned regarding kiosk design, deception technologies, detection effectiveness, and future considerations to take into account when creating a next-generation K-RAD system. Many challenges remain, but the concept is functional, promising, and could revolutionize security screening and deception detection in a variety of settings.

Inhibition of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) has been identified as a therapeutic target for controlling high blood pressure because the octapeptide angiotensin II, which has vasoconstrictor activity, have minimized their activity in blood vessels. Compounds found in the bark of cashew nuts were separated and identified, and their potential for ACE inhibition was studied. It was observed that the anacardic acids possess this activity, being the 3-anacardic acid inhibitor best among the largest phenolic compounds extracted from the bark of cashews. In silico studies are currently performed to predict the bioavailability and the ability to penetrate the central nervous system (CNS) of a drug. We attempted to conduct this study to verify these properties in anacardic acids, as well as compare with other ACE inhibitors. It was observed that the anacardic acids infringe only one of the five rules of Lipinski, and as the rule states that at least three of these requirements must be satisfied, it is concluded that the anacardic acids exhibit good oral bioavailability and CNS penetration. Thus, the search for a cashew that provides a greater mass of LCC per extraction well as a greater amount of anacardic acid per kilogram of LCC becomes important. From this, it was found among five crops of dwarf cashew (CCP-76, CCP- 09, Embrapa-110, Embrapa-119 and Embrapa-109) which could offer a LCC with greater amount of anacardic acids. The cashew labeled CCP-76 gave a higher amount of LCC to about 30 grams per 50 grams of chestnut bark used for extraction and obtained a concentration of 185 grams per kilogram of anacardic acids LCC to be the best extraction of alkylphenols, among studied. In parallel to these studies, we sought to investigate differences existing compounds in Jatropha mollissima grown in different regions, and it was found that the stress of Ceará hinterlands increases the synthesis of substances for their survival. Thus, these plants can be used in preventive medicine, however, further study should be conducted.

An ECA-Based ZigBee Receiver

Zhang, Chen 26 March 2008 (has links)
Element CXI's Elemental Computing Array (ECA) delivers faster reconfiguration time and higher computational density than Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) with similar computational power. It provides higher computational power than Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) with similar power consumption and price. It also utilizes a library-based graphical development environment promoting ease of use and fast development. In this thesis, the design and implementation of a ZigBee receiver on an Element CXI ECA-64 platform is presented. The ZigBee receiver is evaluated through simulations and implementation on an ECA device. During the design and implementation of the ZigBee receiver, some design experience and tips are concluded. The design methodology on the ECA is studied in detail to assure the implementation's correctness, since the methodology of the ECA is different from that of other platforms. / Master of Science

Engineering critical assessment of submarine pipelines subjected to controlled lateral buckling.

Garmbis, Alexandre Galiani 17 October 2012 (has links)
This work aims to evaluate the effect of internal overpressure on the engineering critical assessment (ECA) of submarine pipelines subjected to controlled lateral buckling, which essentially consists of the analysis of combined loading with large longitudinal strains at the buckle crown. The main goal is to evaluate the feasibility of using SENT specimens to characterize the fracture resistance in the assessments of pipelines subjected to combined loadings using analytical procedures that takes into account the increase of crack driving force due to internal overpressure. This study presents a revision about ECA procedures used in submarine pipelines and about the effect of biaxial stresses their tensile strain capacity. Both standard and alternative procedures are discussed and implemented in a practical problem involving different diameter to thickness ratios, hardening exponents, levels of internal pressure and longitudinal strain. Some selected cases are compared with full elastic-plastic J solutions, e.g. EPRI. The results provide useful insights regarding the advantage and limitations of each procedure, including the possibilities to extend their applicability beyond the standard limit of 0,4% of longitudinal strain.

Interdição e silenciamento: o resgate da história da Escola de Comunicações e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo a partir dos processos administrativos de desligamento de docentes no período ditatorial (1969-1979) / Interdiction and silencing: the rescue of the history of the School of Communications and Arts of the University of São Paulo from the administrative processes of dismissal of teachers in the dictatorial period (1969-1979).

Coutinho, Lis de Freitas 18 May 2018 (has links)
This thesis presents the study of the cases of dismissals of five professors of the School of Communications and Arts of the University of São Paulo (ECA/USP) during the military regime (1969-1979): Jean Claude Bernardet, Thomaz Farkas, José Freitas Nobre, Jair Borin and José Marques de Melo. The objective of this research was to understand, through documents, testimonies and bibliographic research, the persecution of intellectuals and scientists in the military dictatorship. The purpose was to carry out a case study to understand how the logic of investigations and controls of purges in universities in this Brazilian historical context worked. In addition, this investigation dealt with the different strategies of purges carried out at USP, among them the so-called \"white cassation\", in which teachers were not formally revoked, but were summarily dismissed from university staff without justification. In order to understand these phenomena, we have examined the trajectories of teachers since joining the ECA/USP, passing through the dismissal, until the return in the 1980s, after the Amnesty Law. For that, we use as methodological basis the historiographic method, the indiciary paradigm and qualitative analysis. Thus, within the discussions that we have participated in the Observatory of Communication, Censorship and Freedom of Expression of ECA/USP, we could conclude that intimidation and self-censorship were preponderant in the practices of interdiction of surveillance devices in universities, generating great consequences for the knowledge production, especially in the area of communications.

This research seeks to understand the process of effecting practices that refer us to the rights that are understood as necessary to preserve the human dignity of the child and adolescent population in Brazil. In this line of thinking, our research challenges the effectiveness of the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA) in the context of State activity, as well as social activity. Given the existence of legal propositions, from a sociological perspective, we seek to understand the implementation of public policies and protectionist actions for children and adolescents,in order to recognize the existence of common elements and that are favored in the community's experience and in the utopia established by the statute. Mapping values that are included in the ECA, the research emphasis surrounds the rights to education, culture, sports and leisure, which are supposed to be promoted by the State and by society in general. Thus, the question that guides our research is: how and to what extent do these rights reach the minors of a community on the periphery? Through the use of a qualitative methodology and the theoretical tools of the Social Sciences, we seek to capture the nuances of the relationship between public policies and the ways of life of children and adolescents, which from the structuring theory allows us to reach the effectiveness of the Legal provisions, based on the correlation between community and state legislation. The empirical data collection was performed through participatory observation practice in the Jardim Borborema II community, in the Três Irmãs neighborhood, located on the outskirts of the city of Campina Grande in Paraíba. Faced with an inert role of the State in the development of community activities, the rights provided for in the ECA remain in the ideals of the State, while community action is the only instrument for the consolidation of these rights.
