Edison Marshall: A bio-bibliographyUnknown Date (has links)
"The purpose of this paper is to present the life of Edison Marshall, particularly those aspects which have direct bearing on the production of his novels, together with an annotated listing of his published novels. A listing of articles and short stories written by him will be included in an appendix. Since 'librarians have been forced increasingly into bibliographic activity' and, since the expressed 'purpose of the bio-bibliography is to present biographical and bibliographical material to library users,' this form has been selected as the best means of presentation of this study"--Introduction. / Typescript. / "August, 1960." / "Submitted to the Graduate School of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science." / ABSTRACT This work presents a biographem – a narrative about someone’s life and works – about Edison Carneiro. This method of narrative writing – biographematics – belongs to Roland Barthes. However, on our inferences, we use his arguments and theoretical concepts he questioned, or we create complementary concepts to biographematics or to the cultural criticism. We structured Carneiro’s biographem on the perception of his discursive places, his poetic production and his relation with samba and Afro-Brazilian mythology. Edison Carneiro was a "person from inside" or, using his words, "a person from home". The artistic and ethnographic production of the wizard-intellectual was committed to the Afro-Brazilian popular and plural discursive place. In his poetry, he created new ways to represent and understand love and it possessions. In his works on the defense of samba, he anticipated the notion of safeguarding. In his works on the candomble of Bahia, he opened possibilities to understand it revisions and permanencies and the prejudices against this Afro-Brazilian religion. From these arguments, we can conclude that Carneiro’s biographem also reveals important moments of Brazilian culture, which we may relate to him.

[pt] PHONOGRAPHOS E GRAMOPHONES: A CASA EDISON E O MERCADO FONOGRÁFICO NO RIO DE JANEIRO ENTRE OS ANOS DE 1900 A 1913 / [en] PHONOGRAPHOS E GRAMOPHONES: CASA EDISON AND THE FONOGRAPHIC MARKET IN RIO DE JANEIRO FROM 1900 TO 1913EDUARDO GONCALVES 06 December 2021 (has links)
[en] This Master s thesis aims to examine the formation of Brazil s phonographic market from the operation of the first record of wax cylinders with Brazilian songs, Casa Edison, in the federal capital at the end of the late nineteenth until the beginnings at second decade of the twentieth century. To undertake this analysis, the research focused on documents made by the record label, even as their catalogues and supplemental disclosure, their letters with foreign phonograph companies and their copyrights. The label was a polyphonic place that dialoged and dealt to several musical genres, songwriter, poets, singers, businessman and companies of their time, needful to start the process for its structuring and expansion. Casa Edison was
responsible to almost all records of Brazilian music during the first decades on twentieth century and to spread the basis for phonograph market structuration in Brazil.

Previous issue date: 2017-02-13 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This study aims to identify the possible theoretical-methodological links present in Luiz
Beltrão thesis, called Folkcomunication: a study of the agents and popular means of
information of facts and expression of ideas. For this, the research was based on the assertion,
in Jacks and Escosteguy (2003), that folkcommunication is “clearly linked to the
presuppositions of a functionalist social theory”. The possible linkage of Beltrão’s work with
developmentalism and indications of folkloric research by Edison Carneiro was also analyzed.
It was searched the “source texts” from the reference authors, complemented by “comments”
on these works (FOUCAULT, 2006, p.25) and about the central themes of each possible link,
based on bibliographical and documentary research. The research revealed that Beltrão’s
doctoral work has not a strong links with functionalism, but uses ideas from Mass
Communication Research (MCR) and the developmental policies that were present in Latin
America in the 1960s. It was also verified that Edison Carneiro’s concept of “dynamics of
folklore” (and elements that built it) is fundamental for the formation of folkcommunication / Esta tese busca identificar os possíveis elos teórico-metodológicos presentes na tese de Luiz
