This paper, related to the Post-Graduation Program in Education (PPGEdu/CUR/UFMT, in Portuguese), focuses on Teachers’ Training and Public Education Policies and debates continuing education in the theoretical-methodological perspective regarding the teacher’s pedagogical praxis. Thus, s/he needs to take criticism as one of the elements that leads to the understanding of praxis itself. The main question to be answered was How much has the Educator’s Room Project (ERP) ensured theoretical-methodological training that enables the teacher to think about and reflect on his/her pedagogical praxis in the classroom? Most specifically, it was intended to comprehend the teacher’s conception of education, human beings, school, pedagogical practices and continuing education at school; to analyze the teacher’s conception of the relationship between theory and practice; to analyze how ERP has helped to build a teaching cultural identity; to understand how the methodology in ERP training is developed; to examine which contents are covered in ERP; to reflect on how the teacher develops his/her pedagogical praxis. Divided in four chapters, this paper presents data analysis in seven major categories: conception of education; of human being; pedagogical praxis; observance of pedagogical praxis in the classroom; conception of continuing education; reframing of pedagogical praxis in training courses; observance of ERP in pedagogical meetings. The dialectical method allowed comprehension of the subject of study. This research was carried out in a state school in the municipality of Rondonópolis, State of Mato Grosso, Brazil, having six Second Cycle teachers as subjects. The tools to gather data were a teachers identification questionnaire, semi-structured interviews, document analysis (ERP Orientations 2011-14, ERP Proposition 2013-14 and the school PPP) and observation. Critical pedagogy taken from Freirean teachings was the theoretical basis for this study. Throughout the study, I tried to consider the relationship between theory and practice. The results have shown that pedagogical actions keep a close relationship with the teachers’ socio-cultural experiences. Eventually, its conclusion is that the teacher has education in sight in a citizen-ridden perspective as well as his/her importance in the teaching-learning process involving a critical and autonomous student. Yet, once in the classroom, some are not able to join both thought and action (theory and practice). Training in ERP, in the field of utopia, represents a space for reflection; however, data collected revealed that the school has consolidated a training course proposition that enables teachers to think about and reflect on their pedagogical praxis. Incoherence between discourse and action is a challenge to be overcome by such teachers. It is necessary to (re)build the ERP theoretical-methodological structure so that it makes sense in the studies carried out by now, in a way that these teachers be aware of the necessity of changing their pedagogical activities into pedagogical praxis.

Ohlson, Hanna, Pettersson, Adina January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to give a deeper understanding regarding how educators and childrens positions change when the educators participate in child-initiated play. This was investigated through theoretical concepts such as: as-if, as-is, agency, metacommunication, and alterity. To answer these questions observations together with a qualitative method was used. The study is founded on play-responsive learning theory. Data was collected and analyzed using thematic analysis. The study shows that educators participation in child-initiated play affects the participating children as well as the play and its development. The conclusion of the study is that pedagogical participation can occur in three different ways. The educator can participate intensely, leading to the children being disturbed and needing to interrupt their play. The educator can participate cautiously, which means that the children are allowed to continue their play with support from the educator. The educator can lastly be invited by the children and participate on their terms. These three ways display that the educators actions in participation have an impact on the childrens free play. Through theoretical concepts, the study highlights the importance of adapting to the needs of children in child-initiated play, and the importance of the interaction between educators and children.

Text in English, with summaries and keywords in English, Sesotho and Afrikaans / This study is an enquiry into how The educator’s new clothes by Mark Rautenbach is an example of site-specific art. The aim is to demonstrate how boundaries in TENC become blurred between site-specific performance, other art forms, and every-day activities. The key concepts explored are: Rautenbach’s approach to the concept of site, the connections that develop between his performance and each site that he travels to; his use of the art gallery and viewer participation. Through literature study relevant theory is explored, and several arguments are applied in a selective manner to my analysis of TENC. Various International and South African site-specific artworks are discussed as an indication of how site-specificity can be applied in alternative ways. In October 2017 I installed GREENER?, a site-specific exhibition in the UNISA Art gallery. The works on the show underline the theoretical findings and highlight the flexible application of theory relating to site-specificity. / Dinyakišišo tše ke phatišišo mabapi le seo se dirago bokgabo bja The educator’s new clothes (TENC) ka Mark Rautenbach go ba mohlala wa bokgabo bja lefelong le itšego. / Art History, Visual Arts and Musicology / M.V.A.

Use of the Physical Classroom Environment as a Teaching and Learning Tool Including the Impact of the CCSSI in Kindergarten Through Third Grade Classrooms in Northeast Tennessee

Hensley-Pipkin, Charity 01 August 2015 (has links)
The specific goal of this study was to determine the use of the physical classroom environment as a teaching and learning tool in an era of the implementation of the Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI). This qualitative multi-case study focused on the learning principles and epistemological beliefs of primary teachers with reference to the physical classroom environment and the teaching process in regard to meeting the expectations set forth by the CCSSI. The researcher sought participation from a city school district in Northeast Tennessee which included a total of 8 participating teachers consisting of 2 each of grades kindergarten, first, second, and third. The Teacher Beliefs Survey (Woolley, Benjamin, & Woolley, 2004) was administered to determine teachers’ philosophical position regarding constructivist and traditional beliefs. Based upon responses, 8 teachers representing the most constructivist and most traditional teachers in each grade were selected for further participation. Teachers’ practices and perceptions of the role of the physical environment in the teaching and learning process including consideration of the CCSSI were further explored through interview. Each physical classroom environment was evaluated using the Primary Educators Environment Rating Scale (PEERS), a rubric designed to assess the use of the physical classroom environment on a continuum from traditional to constructivist practices (Evanshen & Faulk, under review). Observational field notes and photographs were collected in order to document environmental components of the physical classroom environment of each participant. Data was collected and triangulated through the use of the aforementioned methods. Through the data analysis process, the researcher found all participants to demonstrate support for the role of the physical environment in the teaching and learning process which was determined based on results of the interview in conjunction with findings of the PEERS and supporting photographic evidence. Each teacher’s personal experiences and philosophy of education was found to guide the physical classroom environment design and layout in various ways. While most teachers felt the CCSSI had little or no impact on their physical classroom environment, all shared in varying degrees the use of the physical environment as a tool to support students in developing 21st century skills.
