Fem fragment om måleri

Ingvarsson, Sunniva January 2021 (has links)
This bachelor essay presents some aspects of Sunniva Ingvarssons painting process.  Comparing the painterly act with writing (about the field of her practice) the text aims to grasp some outlooks on the use of words or verbal contentmaking connected to a nearly nonverbal expression.  The painted gestures and markmakings are being discussed as meaningless in a meaningful way, arguing whether the parameters of the established should be taken in consideration in the artistic research, or not.  Based on subjective experiences and some readings including Susan Sontag, Judith Butler (and Friedrich Schlegel) there is an aim to make the reader understand the eventual importance of the un-validated thoughts art possibly can consist of, with permission of only the artist.

Mending

Jones, Tacie 03 December 2019 (has links)
Mending is a body of artwork created in response to ancestral trauma inherited between women. This paper discusses the exhibition of work, which consists of media installation, sculpture, and photography. Mending confronts Walter Benjamin’s patriarchal argument that one must intellectually excavate deep memory. Rather, the processes used to create the body of work engage a sensorial approach, and attempt to both reconstruct embodied memory and reconcile trauma. The act of mending is an historically feminine gesture appropriate for resolving the transgenerational trauma of the female body’s experience. Additionally, the media serves as witness, and has the potential to act as an impartial observer in the process of unraveling embodied trauma, allowing for reflexive self-witness. Overall, Mending rejects the thought-centric process of excavation, instead centering sensory-based spiritual practices in contemporary art related to nature immersion, meditative ritual, and collaboration between women working to heal handed-down victimization. / Mending is a body of artwork created in response to ancestral trauma inherited between women.

Turcotte-Tremblay, Benoîte 08 1900 (has links)
This thesis uses a topographic perspective in order to examine how the memory of traumatic events is apprehended in the literary works of post-genocidal generations. While these traumatic events happened in the past, their imprint remains perceptible in the present, according to the structures of what Marianne Hirsch called “postmemory”. Through the analysis of Patrick Modiano’s Dora Bruder (1997) and Katja Petrowskaja’s Peut-être Esther (Vielleicht Esther, 2014), we look at how memory taken as a topographic experience allows for, by the embodied relation implied, a rich and singular contact with this traumatic heritage, as well as the emergence of a plural, trans-temporal and transcultural look on postmemory and its resonance in contemporary literature. The first chapter is dedicated to the presentation, definition and illustration of the main theoretical concepts and themes guiding the reflection, such as postmemory, embodied memory and the idea of memorial topography. The second chapter is a reflection on the memory itineraries in Dora Bruder and on the presence-absence, in the contemporary parisian topography, of the young girl who gives her name to the narrative. Therefore, the narrative and literary processes used by Modiano in order to draw, through the mists of history, the portrait of a character still remaining uncatchable and enigmatic are examined in this section. The third chapter addresses the fragmentary and plural narrative that Petrowskaja elaborates in Peut-être Esther, with a particular attention to the way that the narrator interacts with memorial sites and links them together through her movements and travels. The analysis of various passages also brings to light the richness and relevance of the figure of the palimpsest in the expression and apprehension of memorial topography.

Inhabitance

Jones, Tacie Nicole 01 February 2022 (has links)
While the concepts and imagery presented here are not autobiographical, there is no way to fully detach lived experience from the process of making and theorizing this work. And although its impetus is a lifelong journey of healing, the focus here is transforming the inhabitance of trauma into an awareness of embodied presence. From a space of reflexivity, Inhabitance asks you to come back to your body through heart-minded creative action. This practice-based interdisciplinary methodology integrates the emancipatory powers of women and gender studies, consciousness studies and art. Through this hybrid approach, Inhabitance creates space for reconciling an imposed fracture between the sensory and cognitive aspects of our lives to rewrite the restrictive narrative that trauma can hold over both. / Doctor of Philosophy / While the concepts and imagery presented here are not autobiographical, there is no way to fully detach lived experience from the process of making and theorizing this work.

Romero Cubero, Priscilla 17 January 2022 (has links)
[EN] This thesis is entitled In the skin of latexgraphy: a creative proposal for current graphics. Research that brings together the differential contributions of latexgraphy as a unique printmaking technique in the field of expanded graphics in contemporary art. We start from the artistic creation in relation to the notion of the body, and properly of the skin as a symbolic border between our being and the world; surface in whose imprint the graphic memory of our existence and identity is recorded, the same that thanks to the implementation of our technique, we can transmute into an expressive material, within the framework of a collaborative creative process between the public and us. In the first part, we elaborate an introduction to the technique of latexgraphy, its meaning and practice, contemplating the most relevant concepts and the systematization of the process through the identification, description and justification of its variables. Later we study the antecedents and theoretical-practical axes of the discourses of expanded graphics, with which we identify our research, to finally list the differential contributions that, from latexgraphy, we make to the current artistic field. In a second part we make an approach to the poetic reflections that from latexgraphic practice we have woven around the concepts of the body, its image and the metaphors of the skin, from an interdisciplinary perspective combining both the contributions of artistic references and the approaches that from philosophy, sociology, anthropology and medicine are given to the concepts in question, from the mid-twentieth century to the present day in the West. Finally, the third part is dedicated to the artistic research included in the corpus of own work, where we present the results obtained from the Embodied Memory project, an individual exhibition conceptualized and executed within the framework of this thesis, as well as the latest advances made in relation to latexgraphy, in the pieces developed during the year 2021. / Romero Cubero, P.
