The purpose of this study was to determine if there is a relationship between dual enrollment engagement and the completion of a certificate or diploma at a Tennessee College of Applied Technology. Other factors such as demographics of race and age was considered as well. This study is useful in providing further information on the transition from secondary to postsecondary education. Information was gathered to determine the relationship between high school dual enrollment students who attend a Tennessee College of Applied Technology and the likelihood of graduating with a diploma. The participants consist of high school dual enrollment students from each of the 27 Tennessee College of Applied Technology institutions across the state of Tennessee. The findings of this study were that there is a correlation between increased levels of dual enrollment engagement and the completions of a certificate or diploma.

The purpose of this thesis is to provide an in-depth understanding of tooth engagement in splined couplings based on variations in clearances between mating teeth. It is standard practice to assume that 25-50% of the total spline teeth in a coupling are engaged due to variations from manufacture. Based on the assumed number of teeth engaged, the load capability of a splined coupling is determined. However, due to the variations in tooth geometry from manufacuture, the number of teeth actually engaged is dependent on the applied load and the tooth errors. The variations result in sequential tooth engagement with increasing load. To date, little work has been done to model tooth engagement and the stresses resulting from unequal load sharing among engaged teeth. A Statistical Tooth Engagement Model (STEM) has been developed which allows designers to estimate tooth engagement and resulting stress based on a statistical representation of the tooth errors. STEM is validated with finite element models as well as some preliminary experimental tests. Parametric studies are performed to determine the effect and sensitivities of variations in tooth parameters and tooth errors.

This study examined the engagement of male, college basketball players within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The literature review shows a connection between engaging in educationally purposeful activities and student retention. Because some student athletes, male collegiate basketball players in particular, struggle to graduate at the same rate as their fellow student athletes, student engagement offers one lens to examine the educational experiences of basketball players. The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) was used to collect levels of engagement along four identified variables. These four variables, part of Chickering and Gamson’s Seven Principles for Good Undergraduate Education, were relevant to the study as they were factors student athletes could control. These factors included: active learning, cooperation among students, interaction with faculty, and time on task. Student athlete responses were analyzed by three factors including NCAA athletic division, race, and highest level of parental education. This study found no significant difference in levels of engagement among the NCAA’s three athletic divisions. Additionally, no significant differences in engagement were found based on the highest level of education reached by the student athlete’s parents. Last, ethnic background presented only one significant difference within the active learning variable. The other three variables showed no significant difference based on race. The lack of statistical differences is iv meaningful as it signifies the strength of the basketball culture. The culture of this sport permeates all divisions of college basketball and transcends the background of its players. Thus, players who should display different levels of engagement based on institutional or background characteristics display similar levels of engagement

L’objectif de cette recherche est d’étudier la relation entre les nouvelles carrières et l’engagement organisationnel. La gestion des carrières et l’engagement organisationnel sont importants, à la fois, pour les individus que pour les organisations. Toutefois, les carrières ne sont plus bâties au sein d’une même organisation, elles deviennent des carrières sans frontières. Nous cherchons à comprendre et analyser la nature de l’engagement des ingénieurs consultants en SSII. Les données qualitatives ont été collectées sur le marché de l’emploi français, 47 interviews ont été mené, dans le secteur des SSII. Les résultats montrent que les ingénieurs consultants développent aussi bien un engagement envers la SSII qu’envers l’entreprise cliente. Ils développent aussi un engagement professionnel, un engagement envers l’équipe et un engagement envers le leader. Il s’agit don, d’un engagement multi-cibles. Simplement les carrières de ces ingénieurs ne sont pas nécessairement nomades. Dans ce nouveau contexte, les carrières ne sont plus bâties au sein d’une même organisation, elles deviennent des carrières sans frontières.Elles sont caractérisées par des parcours singuliers et idiosyncrasiques ; des mobilités inter organisationnelles outre celles intra organisationnelles ; une vision plus élargie de la compétence ; une promesse d’employabilité au lieu de la promesse de carrière à vie et la monté de la dimension subjective de la réussite de carrière. D’autre part, au-delà des postulats selon lesquels la question d’implication organisationnelle est devenue une aberration, une telle attitude est encore importante, elle devient même plus cruciale qu’elle l’était auparavant. Suite au désengagement des entreprises et à la responsabilisation des individus en matière de gestion de leurs carrières, la question d’implication devient plus capitale. De ce fait, l’objectif de notre recherche est d’étudier l’impact des carrières individuelles sur l’engagement organisationnel. / The purpose of this paper is to study the relationship between new careers and organizational commitment. Managing careers and organizational commitment are typically important for individuals as organizations. However, careers are no longer bounded in one organization, instead, they become boundaryless. We aim to understand and analyze the nature of commitment of IT professional, in the SSIIs in France.Surveys were collected from French labor market; 47 semi-structured interviews were among French persons working for SSII.The findings reveal that SSII engineers develop commitment to the agency: SSII and to the client. They also develop professional commitment, team commitment and Leader commitment. However, their careers are not necessary boundaryless, traditional careers still exist among these professionals on IT.

Search the library catalog for the location and call number. / Research has identified the construct of student engagement as an antecedent to positive academic outcomes. In this study, the Student Engagement Instrument (SEI) was administered to 371 9th grade students at a comprehensive high school to measure the cognitive and affective engagement of students. Exploratory factor analyses were conducted on the 35-item SEI with best model fit matching previous research in which a five-factor model was found. Logistic and multiple regression analyses were then utilized to explore the relationships among cognitive and affective engagement and student achievement and behavioral outcomes. Findings generally supported the significance of the student engagement subtypes of cognitive and affective engagement in predicting educational outcomes. Results suggest that further study of the affective and cognitive subtypes and their development over the course of a student's education would enhance the understanding of the student engagement construct and lead to the development of interventions to mediate the effects of these subtypes. / Committee in charge: Edward Kameenui, Chairperson, Educational Methodology, Policy, and Leadership;

The risk of losing the most talented workers due to limited career opportunities had become an issue for telecommunication organizations. Talented workers became disengaged when there were limited opportunities for growth and development. To address this issue, human resource practitioners created employee development programs aimed at increasing employee engagement to help retain talented workers. However, data to determine the link between employee development programs, engagement, and retention were limited. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore managers' and employees' perceptions of how a telecommunication organization's employee development program contributes to employee engagement and to explore employees' experiences resulting from the transfer of learning. Kahn's engagement model and Kirkpatrick's and Phillips's and Phillips's evaluation models provided the conceptual framework for this study. The guiding research questions focused on employees' and managers' perceptions of how the telecommunication organization's employee development program contributes to employee engagement and on employees' experiences resulting from the transfer of learning engagement concepts and activities. Using purposeful sampling, 10 employees who attended the employee development program and 5 managers shared their perceptions and experiences. The thematic analysis of the interview data uncovered 3 themes that are critical for engagement – employee-centric culture, support for career development, and management knowledge needed for real-time support. The implication of the project study was a 3-day professional development workshop for managers. Understanding how the employee development program contributes to employee engagement could offer better ways to retain talents.
