1	Läromedel i engelskundervisningen : En studie gällande läromedels utformning, läromedlets roll i lärares undervisning samt lärares tankar kring detta. / Course book materials in teaching and learning of English Danielsson, Sandra, Lundberg, Malin January 2013 (has links) This study is about the use of textbooks in teaching English as a second language and about teachers’ attitudes and opinions of using textbooks during lessons. The aim of the study is to receive a deeper understanding of the use of textbooks in English teaching and to learn about why teachers choose whether to use the textbook approach or not. The study contains an analysis of the textbooks the teachers in our study used. The analysis shows the actual content and the types of texts together with the design and the structure of the textbooks. We have also conducted an analysis of materials that accompany the textbooks in forms of workbooks and the guides for teachers. This part of the analysis shows what kind of competencies the exercises in the workbooks promote and whether they are consistent with the Swedish curriculum for English. We have also interviewed 10 teachers and one special needs teacher to get a view of their thoughts around their teaching of English and the use of textbooks in children’s education. We have also performed a short observation to see what kind of exposure to the English language the children had in their classrooms. Our study shows that a lot of teachers use the textbook as a base for their teaching of English. They explain that they use the textbook to find relevant content to which they add their own ideas or material from other sources to complement the textbooks. The analyses of the textbooks show that when it comes to content the textbooks seem to fulfill the intentions of the curriculum. The competencies that the exercises in the workbook promote, especially for years 4-6, were mainly the written production. As a contrast to the textbooks for years 1-3 where the oral production and interaction was the most promoted competencies. This study concludes that the teaching of English has not gone through any radical changes even though we now have a new curriculum for English. The textbooks are still more focused on written production instead of the communicative aspects that has been promoted in the new curriculum. However the newer textbooks show a greater understanding for the new curriculum and have more exercises that promote the communicative aspects of the English language. A conclusion of this study is that the teaching of English has changed since our time in school; however the change can be said to be processing slowly. 2	Fuck är underbart uppskattat : En studie av gymnasieelevers och gymnasielärares inställning till engelskspråkig slang Turdell, Jan January 2017 (has links) The study had the aim to find out what attitudes high school students and their teachers had towards slang expressions from the English language, in which situations the students used slang, where they learned these expressions from and if there were any differences between boys and girls. The methods used were both (a quantitative method by using) questionnaires for students and (a qualitative method by) interviews with teachers. The result shows that students were positive towards using English speaking slang and they mostly used the expressions while communicating with friends or online. The students learned slang expressions from social media platforms and other websites, music, film/television series and friends. 3	Vadå nationell självbild? : En diskursanalys av hur svenskspråkig tryckpress förhåller sig till The Local Sweden:s nyhetsförmedling av Sverige och "det svenska" / What do you mean national self-image? : A discourse analysis of how Swedish-language print media relate to The Local Sweden's news coverage of Sweden and its "essence" Nilsson, Mimmi January 2016 (has links) The Bachelor dissertation What do you mean national self-image? is a discourse analysis of the relationship between Swedish news providers. The study aims to investigate how Swedish-language print media interact with the main provider of Swedish news in English, The Local Sweden, and what it reports as the “essence” of the nation and its people. The investigation has been conducted through the implementation of Ernesto Laclau’s and Chantal Mouffe’s discourse analysis and uses intertextuality, stereotypes, social representation, as well as nationalism and the imagined communities as its theoretical framework. The material selected for the analysis comprises publications by Swedish-language print media from the year of 2014, which engage in a dialogue with The Local Sweden beyond the generic interaction of news. The dissertation concludes that Swedish-language print media approach The Local Sweden’s news coverage in two ways: in agreement or in opposition of what has been reported. When The Local Sweden has published something with the intention of capturing the “essence” of Sweden and its people, they bring attention to the Swede’s hugging culture, their food and souvenirs, as well as their knowledge of language. The results of the study suggest that The Local Sweden manages to provide new information on the subjects, which then leads to Swedish-language print media responding with entire articles dedicated to these topics. The articles convey a sense of fascination and curiosity toward the findings and confirm that The Local Sweden has been correct in their observations. However, when The Local Sweden publishes something with the intention of presenting Swedish news rather than the specific “essence” of it, they find different angles in news stories than what has been covered by Swedish-language print media. The results of the study suggest that by doing so they set themselves apart and provoke Swedish-language print media into responding by incorporating a comment for and/or relating to them as a news provider. The comments convey that Swedish-language print media question The Local Sweden’s validity as a valuable member in covering Swedish news.
