Under Hösten 2011 startade ett mediedrev mot Socialdemokraternas partiledare Håkan Juholt, där han anklagades för att ha bluffat till sig för mycket i bostadsbidrag. Den här uppsatsens uppgift är att undersöka vilka strategier Juholt använde sig av i sina försvarstal utifrån statusläran och om han argumenterade efter det. Undersökningen är intressant då Juholt misslyckades i sin kommunikation till allmänheten under krisens gång. Jag fann att det man trodde var en ursäkt från början visade det sig vara undvikande av ansvar. Även medias roll visade sig ha en avgörande betydelse då de satte dagordningen. De retoriska begrepp och teorier jag använder mig av är centrala inom retoriken och då särskilt inom genus judiciale (försvarstal). Med utgångspunkt ur dessa begrepp kan man sedan forma sig en mall som kan ge vägledning i ett försvarstal.

The study aims to increase the understanding of how the rhetorical device enthymeme is used in a Swedish party leader debate on the show Agenda on SVT. The study also chooses a more complex and problematized description of enthymemes where they are seen as more than rhetorical syllogisms, and which suggests they can act as methods for analyzing discursive practices. With that, the method Critical Discourse Analysis was chosen to analyze how enthymemes work and are constructed in the text, how they can create discourses, and how these discourses have a relation to or affect society at large.A scheme for analysis was created and based on Walkers (1994) description of the enthymeme, and includes an analysis on a textual level of argumentative structure (including implicit or explicit premises and conclusions), modality and tonality, lexical choices, interactional control, kairos, aptum, doxa, and stylistic devices. In total, 21 enthymemes were found in the debate, and 10 of them were chosen as particularly interesting for further analysis. The analysis shows that all party leaders use enthymemes in the debate, as well as the importance of the implicit information and knowledge used. The analysis also shows that the description of enthymemes as more complex than a rhetorical syllogism is correct, and that Critical Discourse Analysis can reveal more about the workings of enthymemes as the method analyzes on several levels with great care for context. / Studien avser att öka förståelsen för hur det retoriska verktyget entymem används i en partiledardebatt i SVT:s Agenda. Studien väljer även att utgå från en mer komplex och problematiserad beskrivning av entymem, där man vidgar uppfattningen av entymem som retorisk syllogism och föreslår att istället se det som en metod för att analysera diskursiv praktik. Därmed väljs metoden kritisk diskursanalys för att analysera hur entymem fungerar och konstrueras i text, hur de kan skapa diskurser, och hur dessa diskurser har en relation till eller påverkar samhället i stort.Ett analysschema utformades utefter Walkers (1994) beskrivning av entymem och inkluderar en analys på textnivå av den argumentativa strukturen (inklusive implicita eller explicita premisser och slutsatser), modalitet och tonalitet, ordval, interaktionell kontroll, kairos, aptum, doxa, och stilistiska verktyg. Totalt fanns 21 entymem i debatten, varav 10 valdes ut som särskilt intressanta och analyserades vidare enligt den beskrivna metoden. Analysen visar bland annat att samtliga partiledare använder entymem i debatten, och vikten av den implicita information och kunskap som används. Analysen fann även att bilden av entymem som mer komplext stämmer, och att en kritisk diskursanalys kan avslöja mer om hur entymem fungerar eftersom man undersöker verktyget på flera nivåer och med stor omtanke för kontext.

Kent Wisti is a new phenomenon who is successful in social media with his satire drawings. With a softly approach Wisti is questioning the opinions and reactions to current events. The aim of the research is to examine ways and means Wisti uses to form opinions. Today it is difficult to debate about sensitive topics because of the fear of not being considered politically correct, a racist or tied to the opinions that we do not want to be associated with. By examining the topos used and how Wisti speaks about racism and immigration I can thereby discern how Wisti creates enthymem. Therefore I examine the question: How is enthymem created in Kent Wistis drawings? This, in turn, I examine by studying how different topos are used to create enthymem. The research is based on Maria Wolrath Söderbergs method for topos, where I stake on the concepts of points for discussion, bases for discussion and operations for discussion to thereby examine how enthymem are created. The results clearly show that Wisti leaves much implicitly requiring the reader to become a co-creator of enthymem and hence their own convictions. This demands that the readers are well informed of the topics and have similar thought patterns to Wisti in order to fully understand the message. Wisti argues against including prejudices and racism through flaws in various doxa. There are contradictions between what we say and what we do, or between which we want to be and who we are. Doxa is simply something that binds together our decisions and actions with our thinking and reasoning. If these elements do not match, a persons overall impression ruptures.
