I detta examensarbete kan du läsa om hur fadersgestalten integreras i barns verklighet samt i dess lekvärld med bilderböcker. Syftet med studien är att belysa hur fadersgestalten framställs i äldre och nya bilderböcker, och om den har ändrats med tiden. Jag har granskat sex böcker ifrån 1959 fram tills idag, varav två stycken har analyserats på djupet. Frågeställningen till arbetet lyder: Hur framställs fadersgestalten i de olika böckerna? Är han närvarande eller frånvarande i barnets verklighet? Studien använder sig av en multimodal utgångspunkt samt stödjer sig på föregående forskning och litteratur för att nå resultatet. Resultatet av att granska fadergestaltningen i dessa olika böcker är blanda annat att tidningen är en central symbol.  Pappan visas vid flera tillfällen i bilderböckerna sittande med tidningen framför ansiktet. Detta är något som man kan forska vidare på, få svar på hur det kommer sig att så många författare samt illustratörer väljer att gestalta fadern på detta sätt. / In this thesis, you can read about how the father figure is integrated into children’s reality and play world by the way of picture books. The purpose of the study is to illustrate how the father figure is portrayed in old and new picture books, and if it has changed over time. I have examined 6 books from 1959 until the present day on a general level, whereof two pieces have been analysed more in depth. The main questions of this thesis are: How is the father figure portrayed in the different books? Is he present or absent in the child's reality? The study uses a multimodal basis and draws on previous research and literature to reach the result. The results of examining the father figure in these different books were that the newspaper is a central symbol. The father appears on several occasions in the picture books sitting with the newspaper in front of his face. This is something that you can research further on. Get answers on how is it that so many writers and illustrators choose to portray the father in this way.

The father figure has a strong but often hidden presence in Marie-Claire Blais’ novels. Although frequently absent from daily life, fathers have an important impact on the family. Blais’ early novels present traditional fathers, while more recent novels portray a modern figure. The dissolution of the traditional role for fathers has led to confusion: expectations and responsibilities are no longer clearly defined. The presentation of father figures rests with the narrator. Every narrator offers a unique perspective, which changes with age. We propose to study the father figure throughout Blais’ novels in order to determine the influence of the narrative perspective, the impact that age has on this perspective, and also the influence of Québécois societal transformations on the portrayal of father figures within Blais’ work. We will examine the father figure from a child’s perspective, before moving on to the perspective of adolescents, young adults and finally, adults. / Dans l’œuvre romanesque de Marie-Claire Blais, la figure du père est omniprésente mais souvent silencieuse. Elle y change et évolue au fil des transformations de la société québécoise et de ses normes. Le rôle traditionnel du père perd sa place privilégiée ; les pères cherchent un nouveau modèle de paternité. Le portrait du père est surtout déterminé par le narrateur et la perspective de celui-ci évolue au fil de l’œuvre. Au début, les jeunes narrateurs portent des jugements sévères sur les figures paternelles. Toutefois, les romans les plus récents ont des narrateurs adultes qui racontent les histoires de manière moins biaisée. Dans ce travail, nous nous proposons d’effectuer une étude approfondie des différentes figures de père dans l’œuvre romanesque blaisienne. D’abord, nous étudierons comment ces figures sont représentées de la perspective des enfants, avant de nous concentrer sur les perspectives des adolescents, des jeunes adultes, puis des adultes.

This essay concerns Purple Hibiscus and Kambili's emotional development, and explores how violence, submission and emotional dependence along with a traditional feminine gender role can hinder acknowledgement of trauma. I propose that Kambili is encouraged to take on a culturally expected feminine gender role, and her submissive disposition is discussed and connected to her constant search for a father figure. The notion of personal and collective postcolonial trauma is explained and applied to contextualise her inability to question either her father or the political situation in Nigeria. I read Kambili's change as negative and aim to show that she has internalised patriarchal structures. Her change is contrasted to the change in her brother Jaja, to show how and why they develop in different directions. Traditional gender roles are discussed from a rather general perspective, but also in a context that concern masculinity, violence and power relations.

Abstract In the 1980s the cinematic nuclear family flourished again after the self-explorative 1960s and turbulent 1970s. This thesis explores the portrayal of the idealized American family in film between the 1950s and 1980s. The 1955 film Rebel Without a Cause reflects the 1950s cinematic family model. My investigation includes the role of the father figure and the bonds in intergenerational relationships. During the early 1980s, films such Ordinary People and ET: The Extraterrestrial reflect the need to reevaluate the 1950s ideal nuclear family. My examination of these films continues to include the importance of the father figure and bonds between child and parents along with contemporary elements such as the use of psychiatry and rise of single-parent households. These movies' redefined portrayals of the idealized nuclear family represent the shifting dynamics of modern society in terms of single-parent households and highlighted importance of intergenerational relationships.

This thesis investigates representations of masculinities and the father figure in the Swedish painter Carl Larsson’s (1864-1919) self-portraits from 1895. The paintings are analysed through the concepts authority, a term closely connected to the father figure, and idyll, a term often used to describe Larsson’s art. Sara Ahmed’s theory to see beyond what is taken for granted, in Queer Phenomenology, is theoretical starting point for the thesis. The analytical method is adopted from Tamar Garb’s Bodies of Modernity. Figures and Flesh in Fin-de-Siécle France. The conclusion is that the masculinities in Larssons’s father figure are coherent with the paterfamilias in the late 1900s, consisting of the provider, the authority figure, and the husband/lover. Furthermore, that the idyll is constructed by those with the authority to construct it, and that the authority thereby is defined by the idyll it constructs. / Uppsatsen undersöker maskuliniteter genom bildanalyser av två självporträtt av Carl Larsson där han framställer sig som både far och konstnär. Bilderna har analyserats med hjälp av begreppen auktoritet, som traditionellt har varit sammankopplat med fadern, och idyll, som har blivit i det närmaste synonymt med Larssons konst. Sara Ahmeds queera fenomenologi har använts som teoretisk utgångspunkt för att undersöka det som kan ses som det förgivettaga, här formulerat som idyllen. Bildanalyserna har gjorts med utgångspunkt i Tamar Garbs metod för bildanalys i Bodies of Modernity. Figures and Flesh in Fin-de-Siécle France. Undersökningen visar att det i Larssons fadersgestalt går att utläsa samtliga aspekter av 1800-talets paterfamiliaskonstruktion, såsom den formuleras av Joseph A Kestner; familjeförsörjaren, auktoritetsfiguren och maken/älskaren. Undersökningen visar också att den idyllen konstrueras av den som har auktoritet att göra det och att auktoriteten därmed definieras av den idyll den konstruerar. Carl Larssons idyllkonstruktion är därigenom resultatet av ett utövande av den auktoritet han har i egenskap av man, make, far och konstnär.

El objetivo del estudio es describir la manera en la que se manifiesta el vínculo afectivo de parejas en adultos con ausencia paterna biológica en la infancia. Desde el paradigma cualitativo, se utilizó el diseño fenomenológico, usando como técnica de recolección de información la entrevista semiestructurada. Participaron 9 jóvenes entre hombres y mujeres comprendidos entre 22 y 26 años, que tienen o han tenido una relación de pareja. Se utilizó el análisis contenido obteniendo como categorías: Contextualización, Intimidad y Calidad de la relación analizando lo expresado por cada participante. Se encontró que los participantes presentan dificultades para relacionarse en el plano amoroso, expresar sus emociones, comunicarse; así mismo mencionan tener poco apoyo por parte de sus parejas, inseguridad y baja autoestima / The objective of the study is to describe the way in which the affective bond of couples is manifested in adults with biological paternal absence in childhood. From the qualitative paradigm, the phenomenological design was used, using the semi-structured interview as an information gathering technique. 9 young men and women between 22 and 26 years old, who have or have had a relationship, participated. The content analysis was used, obtaining as categories: Contextualization, Intimacy and Quality of the relationship, analyzing what was expressed by each participant. It was found that the participants have difficulties to relate in the loving plane, express their emotions, communicate; They also mention having little support from their partners, insecurity and low self-esteem / Tesis

Towards the end of the 1960s in France we witness the awakening of the memory of the Holocaust and the Occupation which coincides with the publication of Patrick Modiano’s first novel, La place de l’étoile. It is from this time that Jewish memory of the Holocaust begins to surface and we see the emergence of a literature of the post-Holocaust generation. Modiano belongs to this generation that, being deprived of a personal memory of the Holocaust, turns to this period in a quest for roots and identity. Like his Jewish colleagues, Modiano struggles to come to terms with a past that he has not experienced and an absence of memory. This dissertation analyses Modiano’s use of the period of the Holocaust as signifier of Jewish identity in four of his novels in order to highlight the role of the issue of Jewish identity in the construction of a textual identity / Vers la fin des années 60 on voit en France le réveil de la mémoire de la Shoah et de l’Occupation qui coïncide avec la publication du premier roman de Patrick Modiano, La place de l’étoile. C’est à partir de cette époque que la mémoire juive de la Shoah va pouvoir se faire entendre et qu’on constate l’émergence d’une littérature de la génération d’après la Shoah. Modiano appartient à cette génération qui, étant dépourvue d’une mémoire personnelle de la Shoah, se tourne vers cette période dans une quête de racines et d’identité. Comme ses confrères juifs, Modiano a du mal à se réconcilier avec un passé qu’il n’a pas vécu et une absence de mémoire. La presente investigación buscó describir desde un marco teórico psicoanalítico, la construcción de las representaciones mentales de la figura paterna en un grupo de padres jóvenes limeños. Se realizó a partir del método cualitativo y diseño fenomenológico. Los participantes fueron 5 varones limeños con edades entre 23 y 27 años, pertenecientes al nivel socioeconómico C. Los datos se recolectaron a partir de un instrumento: una entrevista semi-estructurada a profundidad. Los resultados se organizaron desde un análisis temático inductivo con sub temas emergentes y permitieron hallar que sus representaciones mentales de la figura paterna presentan 3 temas principales. El primer tema es “Mi padre: amor y deuda”, en el cual se observan los sentimientos ambivalentes hacia sus padres traducidos en idealización y reclamos; el segundo tema es “La figura paterna como autoridad y ley”, donde se aprecia la dificultad de definir el rol de un padre que pone límites a sus hijos; y el tercer tema es “Mi propia experiencia de paternidad”, que muestra el deseo de los participantes por ser buenos padres tomando de referencia a sus propios padres y a la vez querer ser mejores que ellos. El hallazgo central del estudio permitió observar que las representaciones mentales de la figura paterna se sostienen en la ambivalencia de los participantes respecto al vínculo con sus padres, asimismo, necesitaron idealizar al padre en la necesidad de tener un referente para ellos poder ejercer una paternidad deseada. / The present research sought to describe from a psychoanalytic theoretical framework, the construction of the mental representations of the father figure in a group of young Lima parents. It was carried out from the qualitative method and phenomenological design. The participants were 5 men from Lima with ages between 23 and 27 years old, belonging to socioeconomic level C. Data were collected from an instrument: a semi-structured in-depth interview. The results were organized from an inductive thematic analysis with emerging sub-themes and allowed to find that their mental representations of the father figure present 3 main themes. The first theme is "My father: love and debt", in which ambivalent feelings towards his parents are observed, translated into idealization and claims; the second topic is “The father figure as authority and law”, where the difficulty of defining the role of a father who sets limits on his children is appreciated; and the third theme is “My own parenting experience”, which shows the participants' desire to be good parents by referring to their own parents and once they want to be better than them. The central finding of the study is to observe that the mental representations of the father figure are sustained by the ambivalence of the participants regarding the bond with their parents, also, they needed to idealize the father in the need to have a reference for them to be able to exercise a desired paternity. / Tesis
