Feeders parallelism through vis-a-vis disconnecting switches in aerial primary distribution network.

Santos, Marcos Rosa dos 15 May 2008 (has links)
An important aspect related to the distribution systems operation concerns the safety required in the post-disturbances restorement actions or in the emergency and scheduled maneuvers, which involve the need for load transfer between primary overhead feeders of a same sub-station or for an adjacent sub-station, in a safe and reliable way, complying with the loading requirements, voltage at systemic level and protection, among others. Currently the decisions and taking actions related to the necessary maneuvers to carry out the load transfers are responsibility of the operators who work in the operations control rooms, and in many cases, only endorsed by each operator´s own experience, gathered along the time. This paper aims at the study of the involved physical phenomena in situations that place distribution primary overhead feeders in parallel or even when a configuration in closed ring is formed, via distinct transformers and feeders of same or different powers, establishing guidelines and endorsing the control rooms operators in emergency, urgency or scheduled situations in the distribution overhead system. The main objective is to provide technical information, enabling more adequate taking decisions in the distribution overhead system maneuvers coordination, in real time. Each of them has conditions that can be considered the most adequate to carry out the established procedures, however without the main technical information. Thus, some variables such as minimum voltage, equipment loading limits, transformers´ phase angle, the operational restrictions of the system and customers must be applied in real time for the taking decision by the electrical system operators.

Desempenho de leitões submetidos a diferentes espaços de comedouro quando mantidos em alta densidade na fase de creche / Performance of pigs submitted to different feeder spaces while kept under a high stocking density in the nursery phase

Laskoski, Fernanda January 2017 (has links)
Feeder space per pig should be sufficient to ensure adequate access to feed, without impairing the consumption and performance of the animals. However, the influence of feeder space on growth performance of pigs is not well established for the nursery phase, mainly in scenarios of high stocking density. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of four different feeder spaces on the beggining of feeding behavior, the average daily gain (ADG), average daily feed intake (ADFI), feeding efficiency and the occurrence of tail and ear biting in pigs under a stocking density of 0.23 m²/pig in nursery phase. A total of 630 weaned piglets weighing 5.59 ± 0.9 kg and ageing 20.5 ± 0.9 days were evaluated over a 6 weeks period. Seven replicates (28 pens) per treatment were used. The feeder spaces were 2.13 cm/pig, 2.56 cm/pig, 3.20 cm/pig and 4.26 cm/pig. The feed was offered ad libitum, with the feed intake being recorded daily. The pigs were fed for a three-days post-weaning period, with 1% iron oxide dye, and were submitted to rectal swab at 18, 24, 42, 50, 58 and 66 h post-weaning to determine the starting of the feeding behavior. The piglets were weighed at 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 and 42 days of housing. The appearance of tail and ear biting was daily recorded. There was a reduction in the period between weaning and first feed intake (P<0.001) as the feeder space available increased. For the period of 0 to 14 d post-weaning, feeder space linearly affected the increase of ADFI (P=0.015). There was a linear trend for increased GPD with higher feeder space available (P=0.062), but no statistical effect of feeder space was observed on ADFI and feeding efficiency (P>0.05), when considering the total nursery period (0-42 days). From day 21 post-weaning onward, tail and ear biting behavior were observed. Piglets submitted to 4.26 cm/pig were the only that did not present this behavior, differing (P<0.05) from all the other treatments. The space of 2.13 cm/pig presented the highest percentages (P<0.05) of total cannibalism in comparison with the others spaces. In conclusion, higher feeder space decreases the time for the beginning of feeding behavior, tends to increase the ADG, as well as improves the welfare by reducing cannibalism among piglets under high stocking density pens in the nursery phase.

Customer Load Profiling and Aggregation

Chang, Rung-Fang 28 June 2002 (has links)
Power industry restructuring has created many opportunities for customers to reduce their electricity bills. In order to facilitate the retail choice in a competitive power market, the knowledge of hourly load shape by customer class is necessary. Requiring a meter as a prerequisite for lower voltage customers to choose a power supplier is not considered practical at the present time. In order to be used by Energy Service Provider (ESP) to assign customers to specific load profiles with certainty factors, a technique which bases on load research and customers¡¦ monthly energy usage data for a preliminary screening of customer load profiles is required. Distribution systems supply electricity to different mixtures of customers, due to lack of field measurements, load point data used in distribution network studies have various degrees of uncertainties. In order to take the expected uncertainties in the demand into account, many previous methods have used fuzzy load models in their studies. However, the issue of deriving these models has not been discussed. To address this issue, an approach for building these fuzzy load models is needed. Load aggregation allows customers to purchase electricity at a lower price. In some contracts, load factor is considered as one critical aspect of aggregation. To facilitate a better load aggregation in distribution networks, feeder reconfiguration could be used to improve the load factor in a distribution subsystem. To solve the aforementioned problems, two data mining techniques, namely, the fuzzy c-means (FCM) method and an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based pattern recognition technique, are proposed for load profiling and customer class assignment. A variant to the previous load profiling technique, customer hourly load distributions obtained from load research can be converted to fuzzy membership functions based on a possibility¡Vprobability consistency principle. With the customer class fuzzy load profiles, customer monthly power consumption and feeder load measurements, hourly loads of each distribution transformer on the feeder can be estimated and used in distribution network analysis. After feeder models are established, feeder reconfiguration based on binary particle swarm optimization (BPSO) technique is used to improve feeder load factors. Test results based on several simple sample networks have shown that the proposed feeder reconfiguration method could improve customers¡¦ position for a good bargain in electricity service.

Jak ptáci poznávají predátory - význam úplnosti vizuální informace / How do the birds recognize predators - importance of complete visual information

TVARDÍKOVÁ, Kateřina January 2009 (has links)
Pair-wise preferential experiments were used to reveal dangerous predator differentiation and ability of amodal completion by four tit species. Firstly was revealed that the tits{\crq} behaviour towards the feeder was in agreement with predictions of the dynamic risk assessment theory. The presence of any predator at the feeder lowered the number of visits to the feeder. Likewise, the tits evaluated the sparrowhawk as more dangerous than the kestrel because its presence lowered the number of visits more than the kestrel. Secondly, we observed tits{\crq} reactions to both partly occluded and amputated dummy of sparrowhawk in two different treatments (torsos vs. complete dummy of pigeon, torsos vs. complete dummy of sparrowhawk). All birds clearly classified both torsos as ``full-featured{\crqq} predators and kept away of them when pigeon on the second feeder. However, when sparrowhawk was presented on the second feeder, number of visits to amputated predator was higher than to occluded one. Birds risked arriving to ``utter{\crqq} amputated torso while the fear of ``full-featured{\crqq} occluded torso stayed without change when second feeder did not provide safe alternative. Such discrimination between torsos needs ability of amodal completion.

Bem-estar animal na cadeia produtiva: avaliação de sistemas de alojamento na gestação da suinocultura e percepção do consumidor / Animal welfare in the production chain: evaluation of sow housing systems during gestation and consumers\' attitudes

Patrycia Sato 07 April 2017 (has links)
Consumer\'s demand for animal-friendly food is an inevitably growing reality. International legislation drawn up by market demand pressure Brazilian farmers and the industry to comply with minimum animal welfare standards. Specifically in pig production, one of the most controversial aspects is the housing of sows during gestation. Individual crates, which is the conventional system in Brazil, promote physical and social restriction, and predispose to lameness and behavioural disorders. On the other hand, group pens were proposed system to improve animal welfare, but bring other problems, such as hierarchical and food competition aggression, and low individual control, which could impair reproductive performance. In this way, electronic sow feeder (ESF) was developed to mitigate this situation. So, to find out the effect of group housing with ESF system on reproductive performance of sows, a comparison of reproductive data of both systems, located in the same farm, was performed. Monthly data of three years were collected from the farm records and analyzed by T-Student Test for parametric variables and Mann-Whitney Test for the non-parametric variables. According to the results, group housing showed better performance. Only piglet weight at birth was significantly higher in individual housing, suggesting that the conversion of housing systems is not only favourable to farm animal welfare (FAW) and to demanding market, but also to productivity. In addition to the farmer issue, it is essential to evaluate Brazilian consumer\'s perception of FAW, since his/her purchasing power causes strong impact on market. Besides, international legislation is not enough to bring about changes in all Brazilian farms and food industries. Therefore, a consumer survey was conducted. Two data collection methods were used: online and in loco (marketplaces). for greater number of answers and representativeness. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, and chi-square Test was applied to evaluate if there was association between answers\' distribution and participants\' profile. Both surveys have shown that consumer recognizes farm animals\' sentience, feels that little importance is given to the subject in Brazil, while he/she considers the government as the main responsible for promoting FAW. They agree that consuming animal-friendly products can help improve animals\' conditions, even though they cannot identify certification seal. In addition, while participants claim they are not familiar to farming systems, they have shown interest in the topic and willingness to pay more for certified products. However, some answers should be analyzed when paired with actual consumer behaviour.

Structure et rôle du caecum gastrique des échinides détritivores: étude particulière d'Echinocardium cordatum, Echinoidea: Spatangoida / Structure and role of the gastric caecum in deposit-feeding echinoids, Echinoidea: Spatangoida, Echinocardium cordatum: a case study

Rolet, Gauthier 14 September 2012 (has links)
It is always swollen, filled with a colorless liquid whose nature is unknown; sediments ingested by sea urchins fill the rest of the digestive tract but never enter in the caecum. The function of the gastric caecum is unclear: it would secrete enzymes in the stomach, would be a site of absorption, and/or would harbor a cellulolytic microflora. By taking as model one of the most studied burrowing echinoids, Echinocardium cordatum, this study attempts to highlight the role of the gastric caecum by examining its contents.<p>Results indicate that the gastric caecum of E. cordatum contains seawater. Seawater inflow into the caecum was visualized using dye. The caecal liquid and the surrounding seawater were demonstrated to have similar characteristics: the same osmolarity, the same suspended particles and the same bacterial communities. The gastric caecum contains suspended organic matter (detritus, transient bacteria) and is also involved in absorption. Absorption and transfer of glucose were compared between the gastric caecum, the stomach and the intestine, using a particular experimental device: the Ussing chamber. The results showed that the enterocytes of the caecum and of the intestine were more involved in glucose transfer to the coelomic cavity than those of the stomach.<p>Seawater circulation in the digestive tube is tentatively described. Seawater currents along the body of the sea urchin originate from the sediment surface and reach the mouth; this circulation is generated by ciliae of specialized spines, the clavules. Peristalsis of the esophagus and of the siphon induces seawater to enter the mouth and to move along the digestive tube. Part of this water enters the siphon, being then transported to the intestine, and driven outside via the anus. Seawater that has not been taken by the siphon can reach the opening of the gastric caecum. A system of grooves occurring at the entrance of the caecum extends from the anterior stomach to the proximal part of the caecum where it is flagellated; these grooves could transport seawater in the caecal lumen. Differences in osmotic pressures between the caecal liquid and the coelomic liquid could transfer water from the caecum to the coelomic cavity. A similar uptake of water could then be removed from the coelom through the wall of the intestinal caecum, and water be eliminated from the digestive tube via the anus.<p>According to our observations, the gastric caecum could be specialized in digestion and absorption of detrital organic matter occurring in seawater. If this hypothesis is correct, E. cordatum would be a deposit-feeder feeding both on the detritus fraction of the sediments and on that of seawater. This model could fit all Atelostomata echinoids (spatangoids & holasteroids) which, besides the presence of a well-developed gastric caecum filled with liquid, have in common the burrowing behaviour, and the maintenance of seawater currents in their burrows owing to the action of clavules grouped into fascioles.<p><p> / Doctorat en Sciences / info:eu-repo/semantics/nonPublished

Experimental Investigations of Internal Air-water Flows

Shaban, Hassan January 2015 (has links)
The objective of the present thesis research is to apply state-of-the-art experimental and data analysis techniques to the study of gas-liquid pipe flows, with a focus on conditions occurring in header-feeder systems of nuclear reactors under different accident scenarios. Novel experimental techniques have been proposed for the identification of the flow regime and measurement of the flow rates of both phases in gas-liquid flows. These techniques were automated, non-intrusive and economical, which ensured that their use would be feasible in industrial as well as laboratory settings. Measurements of differential pressure and the gas and liquid flow rates were collected in vertical upwards air-water flow at near-atmospheric pressure. It was demonstrated that the probability density function of the normalized differential pressure was indicative of the flow regime and using non-linear dimensionality reduction (the Elastic Maps Algorithm), it was possible to automate the process of identifying the flow regime from the differential pressure signal. The relationship between the probability density function and the power spectral density of normalized differential pressure with the gas and liquid flow rates in air-water pipe flow was also established and a machine learning algorithm (using Independent Component Analysis and Artificial Neural Networks) was proposed for the estimation of the phase flow rates from these properties. The proposed methods were adapted for use with single and dual conductivity wire-mesh sensors in vertical upwards and downwards air--water flows. A thorough evaluation of the performance and measurement uncertainty of wire-mesh sensors in gas-liquid flows was also performed. Lastly, measurements of the flow distribution in feeder tubes supplied with air-water mixtures by a simplified header model were collected and correlated to the observed flow patterns in the header.
