Talent management inom universitetsvärlden : En case-studie om ReaL--Research and Leadership vid Umeå universitetSeidegård, Jacob January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this case study is to examine how talent management is applied in a university environment and how development in leadership skills for the participants of a project affects their willingness to stay at the university. This study also highlights the purpose of using a strategy like talent management to keep key people in the organization to stay and also that theories about talent management needs to be complete with theories about loyalty and commitment. This is done through examining the project Real-- Research and Leadership that the University of Umeå provided for 21 researchers and the first round of the project took part between 2015 and 2016. The purpose of this project is to work as a supporting instance for the researcher’s research career in an long term goal to get the young prominent researchers to stay and keep working at the University. To do so, ReaL, as the project is commonly called, offered the researchers a course with the possibility to develop their leadership abilities that would help them in their future research career. But also to introduce them to interdisciplinary contacts in an attempt to broaden their research network and to give them an increased general knowledge sharing. The data gathering for this study was partly done through surveys that were handed out to the participants at the last day of the course and by interviews with selected participants from the course. The quantitative results of the study show that the participants showed a positive feeling against the impact on the participant’s willingness to stay at the University of Umeå and that the support for their research careers and an enhance in their ability in communication and conflict management was highly contributed towards their willingness to stay at the university. ReaL as a support tool for the participants was also a highly contributed factor for their willingness to stay. The Qualitative results on the other hand shows a more complex situation. Even thou that the project had a positive impact, other external factors paid more contribution to the researcher’s willingness to stay then what the quantitative results shows. These factors were the layout of the city of Umeå, their family situation and their partner’s works situation.

In this paper, we develop a learning situation involving mathematical modeling applied to an activity from collected experimental data involving temperature sensors in a technical school. This activity has an interdisciplinary approach in a theoretical - practice perspective engaging contents of Electricity, Physics and Mathematics through a flexible curriculum, featuring the disruption of linear curriculum that is perceived in the traditional school. In this modeling activity we have specific objectives, provide conditions so that students understand the importance of collecting and processing data and thereby identify the symbology used in the study of electronic circuits, understand and use the major laws of electricity in activity analysis and problem solving and also employ the knowledge of mathematics to describe and interpret the results of the activity. The theoretical framework is based on mathematical modeling by Barbosa, and Burak Biembengut & Hein and the proposed Scenarios for Research by Skovsmose. In addition to the specific objectives, we intend to create an environment that encourages discussion and student participation in the construction of knowledge.

Research Priorities in Health - elderly, the development of studies and research on
gerontology and aging, from the theoretical contributions of the CTS and Gerontology,
together with researchers from the Regional Health Departament III - Araraquara / SP.
It is an exploratory and descriptive study carried out in six stages using plural
methodological procedures: document analysis, collection of information by the CNPq
Research Groups Directory and semi-structured interviews. Basing on te Resolution
466/12 all aspects of research with human beings were observed, was approved by
CEP/UFSCAR number 1.062.001/2015. After gathering information, the data were
analyzed pointing up as a result a strong presence of groups of studies on aging and
gerontology registered in the CNPq Research Groups Directory (n=14) acting with the
public universities of the study area where groups are concentrated. Leaders of groups
(n = 11) have different academic backgrounds pointing trend toward interdisciplinarity.
Despite the evidence shows strong tendency on studies and research in gerontology and
aging, it was found that knowledge about the National Agenda for Research (Elderly) is
limited from the human resources, requiring prioritize the dissemination of this
information. The STS proves to be a privileged locus for such discussions both the
interdisciplinary character with the Gerontology has been based, as the socio-historical
dimensions and gaps identified in this study. / O presente estudo buscou investigar o conhecimento e utilização da Agenda Nacional

What a disgusting thing to eat / What a disgusting thing to eatPitkänen, Viivi January 2023 (has links)
As more and more people question our meat consumption and alternative diets are on the rise, consuming insects as an alternative protein source has become a part of the conversation about sustainable foods in western countries. The attitudes towards the topic are mixed due to insects being a rare food in western countries but in countries such as Sweden the attitudes towards eating insects are often negative. People often reject the idea of eating insects because they simply don’t see them as edible, but why are insects not edible when other animals such as cows are a typical food? This project aims to discover what moral differences there are between different animals and how these differences affect what meat we can or can’t eat and how we view insects as food.

An analysis of the South African tax incentive for research and development and an international comparison.Price, Shane Terrence. January 2010 (has links)
The promotion of science & technology and the creation of an enabling environment for
countries innovation systems has been a growing worldwide trend in developed countries, with
21 out of 30 member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and
Development (OECD) currently utilising some form of tax incentive program aimed at
encouraging investment in research and development (R&D) by private industry. 1 Encouraging
R&D and associated innovation is generally seen as an effective tool in advancing science and
technology, which in turn leads to the creation of new products and services, an increase in
international competitiveness of local business, direct foreign investment and social spin-offs in
the form of increased employment and economic growth?
R&D is, however, expensive and involves high levels of technical risk, with the costs and risk
involved often outweighing the potential profit. Consequently, many businesses choose not to
perform R&D, which has resulted in governments of most developed countries having
implemented various incentives to encourage private business to undertake R&D. These
incentives can take the form of either direct incentives (grants, soft loans, subsidies etc) or
indirect incentives (such as tax incentives). Tax incentives effectively subsidise the costs of
R&D, making it a more attractive and profitable alternative for business. Developed countries,
including: the United States of America (US), the United Kingdom (UK), Japan, China, Canada
and Australia have all adopted a combination of both direct and indirect incentives, with various
tax incentive measures receiving much attention in the last 2 decades.
In South Africa the legislation providing for R&D tax incentives has been substantially
amended in recent years through a number of Taxation Amendment Acts,] culminating in the
enactment of s lID of the Income Tax Act 58 of 1962 (the Act). The aim of this dissertation is
to critically examine the current South Afi'ican tax incentive scheme as contained in sliD,
focusing on the eligibility requirements of that incentive. In addition, the dissertation will
highlight design features and characteristics of the incentive, particularly in respect of its generosity, predictability, simplicity, administration and targeting. 4 The design and
characteristics of the South African incentive is then compared to those of three different
countries: the UK, Australia and Canada.s Based on the analysis and comparison, certain
lessons are identified for South Africa6 and various opinions are advanced on the effectiveness
of the current structure and whether particular aspects of it could be improved going forward. / Thesis (LL.M.)-Unversity of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, 2010.

Ensino de ciências por investigação: uma estratégia pedagógica para promoção da alfabetização científica nos primeiros anos do ensino fundamental / Teaching science through inquiry: a pedagogical strategy for promoting scientific literacy in the early years of elementary schoolBrito, Liliane Oliveira de 10 December 2014 (has links)
ABSTRACT: The present study constitutes a reflection about the Teaching of Science by research as a practice that facilitates Scientific Literacy in the early years of elementary school. Seeying the teaching of physical knowledge is little explored in the early school years, we applied a learning sequence addressing the theme "Where does the rainbow?" The idea of working with the theme appeared from the series of videos “where it comes from?” shown on School TV. In view that Lorenzetti e Delizoicov (2000) define the scientific literacy as a process in which the language of science wins meanings, enabling the expansion of culture, we started working with the idea of proposing ways of organizational learning appropriate to that purpose. The qualitative research and action research type was developed on days 04th and 05th August from 2014 in a 5th year of elementary education in a Municipal School of Palmeira dos Indios, AL. For both, we used questionnaires and made use of the audio recording of the lesson. We worked with the transcript data and how to interpreting the same procedure we used content analysis. The results revealed that students when invited to do investigations, similar to those made by scientific culture, develop conceptual content in a context endowed with meaning and significance. In this way, students become able to use scientific concepts as tools for reading, understanding and meaning of the world, that is, alphabetize scientifically theyself.
