Micro-ring Device Design and Analysis With Large FSR and Narrow Passband

Lee, Yu-zhan 27 August 2012 (has links)
Micro-ring devices are based on resonance principle and inherently are wavelength selective. Thus it is an important optical component for WDM based applications. To fully utilize the available capacity in an optical network, large full spectral range (FSR) and narrow passband are key performance targets of ring device designs. In this paper we report the design and analysis results of micro-ring filters with 4000+ GHz FSR and 25 to 50 GHz passband, based on symmetric add-drop filter structure. We optimize the passband shape (using a box-like factor), drop loss coefficient and off-resonance through loss via the coupling coefficients and ring loss parameters.

Force-Sensing Rehabilitation Glove : A tool to facilitate rehabilitation of reduced hand strength

Henriksson, Michael, Fransson, Michael January 2018 (has links)
This thesis examines how the pressure sensors can be used in rehabilitation for patients with weakened hand strength. The rehabilitation process usually contains everyday tasks to evaluate the patient’s capability and the tools for this part of the rehabilitation process are few. The challenges will be to find a suitable sensor for the application and how to implement the sensor in a versatile prototype with direct feedback for the user. To solve this problem, research will be conducted on different pressure sensor types to determine the most suitable one for this implementation. The resulting prototype is utilizing a force sensing resistor (FSR) mounted on a glove together with a module that presents direct feedback to the patient and caretaker. The glove has pressure sensors in each fingertip to detect the applied force for each individual finger when the patient grips an object. To present the feedback, a visual interface is created in the form of a hand with a LED for each finger, which provides direct visual feedback and a display to present numerical data.

Practical evaluation of the viability of sensorsand algorithms to detect falling and burial by avalanche / Praktisk utvärdering av genomförbarheten av sensoreroch algoritmer för att avkänna fall och begravning av lavin

Conradi, Justus, Tiainen, Patrik January 2021 (has links)
Avalanches kill on average 250 people per year. Fall detection algorithms have been used to detect many different types of falls. In this work, a robust humanoid test rigwas designed and built to investigate the use of proven threshold based fall detection algorithms during skiing. A novel burial detection algorithm is used, to detect whether or not a person has been buried by snow, as this is often lethal. Data acquisition were conducted in the Swedish mountains, as well as computer simulations to further strengthen the results. This thesis shows that an IMU, in conjunction with force sensors around the chest and shoulders are sufficient to detect a fall and burial by snow. The algorithms achieve excellent results based on measurement data gathered by thetest rig. Tests were made to check the algorithm for a person gathering data. This showed that additional evaluation is needed to be applicable to live people, since skiing by the test rig is not completely representative of human skiing.

Supply Chain Security Programs Comparing TAPA FSR with ISPS

Garshasbi, Farzam, Pasha Ebrahimi, Shahram January 2012 (has links)
In this era, where international outsourcing and global distribution systems are thriving, providing the security of products in the logistic system is very crucial now. For corporates, it is highly vital to know how secure high-tech products and materials are handled, warehoused and transported as they move throughout the globe. Different international security standards have been introduced, two of which are TAPA FSR and ISPS. TAPA FSR (Freight Security Requirements) defines the smallest required security standards for goods travelling throughout the supply chain and the suitable approaches in keeping those standards. ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security) is another security standard which identifies the tasks of governments, shipping companies, shipboard personnel, and port/facility personnel to find security threats and take preemptive actions against security events influencing ships or port facilities used in global business. This research attempts to study the literature on security of transportation in supply chain. By comparing the requirements of TAPA FSR and ISPS, we aim to find their basic differences and to analyze to what extent the two standards respond to the crucial concepts of security in the supply chain. / Program: BSc in Industrial Engineering - International Business Engineering

External sensors for the feedback control of functional electrical stimulation assisted walking

Lovse, Lisa 11 1900 (has links)
Functional electrical stimulation (FES) is a rehabilitative technology that can be used to improve walking in individuals with mobility impairments due to neurologic injury or disease. Feedback is essential for efficient FES-assisted walking. The overall goal of my project was to investigate external sensors to provide feedback for FES-assisted walking. The current study evaluated accelerometers, force sensitive resistors, segment orientation angles, and segment angular velocities to determine which were appropriate for determining the activation and deactivation of six major muscles used for walking. The results demonstrated that the segment orientation angles were the most appropriate sensors. Using the segment angle of the thigh, shank, and foot, the activation and deactivation times of the six muscles investigated could be determined within 6% of the step cycle. The shank segment angle performed the best for determining the activation and deactivation times when only one sensor was desired.

Crivellaro, Fernando Sacilotto January 2016 (has links)
This essay has as objective the study and development of an engineer solution for the dental occlusion mapping and characterization, not only related to the interarch occlusal contact distribution, but also through the pressure magnitude measuring in each.
