A child labor free Philippine : When will that be?

Eck, Klara, Ullén, Åsa January 2011 (has links)
We have been in the Philippines where we did a research about child labor. We went to a country in South because we wanted to come home with a deeper understanding of how social work can be practiced in a developing country and to get a bigger global perspective. Child labor is a big subject and therefore we made a demarcation in our research to child labor that we could observe in the urban area Manila. To get answers on our research questions we chosen to do a qualitative study with a triangulation of methods. This means that we used different kind of data collection methods such as, interviews, observation and literature studies. To get interviews we contacted an organization that helped us with contacts on the spot. We interviewed both government and non-government organization to get a broader picture of how they are working with child labor. The observation was made all the time since there were children around us every day, begging or wanted to sell some items to us. The literature was more difficult to find because there isn’t any books about the Philippines in Sweden.      What we have found out is that child labor is a big problem in the Philippines, but that it is a country with a lot of big problems for example poverty. The children in child labor come from poor families that need an extra income. The children doesn’t only work a few hours a week, they often work so much that they drop out of school. Except that the children is missing out of their education there is also a lot of risks involving in child labor. We have been researching about the children’s situations and how government and non- government organizations are working with the issue of child labor and it´s negative effects on the child’s development. We found out that both ILO and the Philippine government have programs right now to support the goal of a child labor free Philippines. We also found out that there is a big lack of trust for the government. To analysis our results we have chosen two theories, the ecological model of human development and development of psychopathology. Both theories are Western but they can be applied on the Philippines if you have the context in mind.

Nevyriausybinių organizacijų vaikų ir jaunimo dienos centrų plėtra ir perspektyvos / Non-govermental organizations child and youth daycare centers development and perspectives

Voitekianaitė, Inga 24 September 2008 (has links)
Few resent years there could be observed rapid growth of non-govermental organzations child and youth daycare centers. In our opinion, such occurence can be influenced by the fact, that majority of local administrations started to execute National non-govermental organizations child and youth daycare centers Pastaraisiais metais Lietuvoje buvo galima stebėti itin spartų nevyriausybinių 2002-2004 program. This program has a continuation – National child daycare centers 2005-2007 year and 2008-2012 year programs. NGO child and youth daycare centers, their activieties and establishment specificity has never been deeply examined by Lithuanian authors, socialogists or scientists. This work is done to reach theoretical and epyrical validity for Lithuanian NGO child and youth daycare centers activities model. To acomplish this task we tried to achive: to examine NGO child and youth daycare centers establishment and activities legal regulations; to define NGO child and youth daycare centers establishment premises; to cary out NGO child and youth daycare centers PEST and SWOT analysis; to carry out NGO child and youth daycare centers directors and experts interview (to adapt expert evaluation method). The research empirically based theoretical model of NGO child and youth daycare centers, which was prepared and presented by the author.

Nevyriausybinių organizacijų vaidmuo visuomenės sveikatos stiprinime / The ROLE OF NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS IN HEALTH PROMOTION

Marcinkevičienė, Rasa 14 December 2005 (has links)
Non-governmental organizations (NGO) in Lithuania are new juridical subjects in its sovereign society, a new expression of the civic community. As there is no any detailed and classified data base made for the Lithuanian NGO yet, it is difficult to find out what organizations are engaged in health promotion, and to determine the effect of this activity on the Lithuanian health service sector and how NGO programmes and services complement the governmental sector’s activities. Aim of the study: Evaluation of the structure, functions and the role in public health promotion of the existing Lithuanian NGO. Objectives: 1. To determine the functions, work scope and finance principles of the health NGO. 2. To evaluate the sociodemographic characteristics of the managers of health and other NGO, their knowledge and awareness concerning the national health policy, the value of public health promotion for the region population. 3. To define the involvement of the health NGO in the formation of the public health policy. 4. To explore the cooperation of the health NGO with other NGO, offices, partners. Methods. Questionnaires filled by the existing Lithuanian organizations and their managers. 409 questionnaires were sent by post. 157 answers were received. It means a very low activity of the respondents. Inquiry by post was made twice. The first inquiry by random sampling of 200 organizations resulted in only 84 answers (42% of all questionnaires... [to full text]

They were mainly originated from areas in the countryside and urban poor areas in the State of Rio Grande do Norte. The non-governmental organization Grupo de Apoio ? Crian?a com C?ncer (GACC) was the privileged ethnographic location. In this setting, the mother, which was called acompanhante (companion), and the children, defined as pacientes (patients), were often sheltered in reason of therapeutic practices and the treatment undertaken by children in a nearby hospital. This study aims to focus on the therapeutic itinerary, beyond the children?s suffering, dealing with the family as a whole, since the moral values from these popular families imply the complete involvement of the family in relation to the illness and its treatment. Therefore, it is experienced as a family problem. We also intend to understand the construction of meanings to the illness, dealing with the ideological continuity in the relationships between the families and the GACC. These meanings were built in the intersection of these two spheres, which refer particularly to medical, religious and emotional explanations. Ethnographic methods were applied in this research at the entity and another social contexts, such as the family households. I also tried to retrieve the process of treatment outside the GACC, visiting the family context, when doing dense interviews or just having conversations with informants. It was found that the GACC, as a non-governmental organization, generates a negotiation of identities, which develops, then, through the family as a whole, but also through the child and especially the mother, affecting, in some way, their internal organization. Furthermore, the meanings of the experience of illness appeared to be shaped by the family sphere as well as by the logic of public health structures / Este trabalho aborda experi?ncias ligadas ao tratamento do c?ncer infantil vividas por crian?as, m?es e fam?lias das classes populares urbanas e do interior do Rio Grande do Norte, tendo como loca??o etnogr?fica o Grupo de Apoio ?

Negociação de sentidos : violência e direitos da mulher na prática de ONGs em Marrocos / Negotiating meanings : violence and women's rights in the practice of NGOs in Morocco

The aim of this master¿s thesis is to analyze the practice of Moroccan activists working in nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) to support women victims of violence. Based on an ethnographic study in an NGO that works with survivors of violence and on interviews with activists in different regions of the country, I analyze the experiences and strategies of women working inside NGOs to fight violence against women in Morocco. This research intends to observe how notions of violence and rights are conceived and instrumentalized by these women, and how they translate and negotiate concepts of rights to the populations that they work with. Reflecting on the role of activists as mediators of a rights-based language between local populations, governmental bodies and international human rights agencies, I attempt to show that their work is influenced by a diversity of factors, including religious and human rights discourses. Attentive to the differences between so called liberal feminist NGOs and Islamic NGOs, the thesis also highlights the points in common in the practices developed by these associations and argues that both a judicial approach in favor of rights, as well as an approach that protects the family, do not account for the dilemmas faced by the activists. This research hopes to contribute to anthropological reflections on how global rights-based networks are articulated in specific contexts / Mestrado / Antropologia Social / Mestra em Antropologia Social

Mentoring propuštěných vězňů jako příklad sociální inovace v České republice / Mentoring of ex-offenders as an example of social innovation in the Czech Republic

Trnková, Lydie January 2015 (has links)
The concept of social innovation is increasingly becoming a subject of interest particularly due to the challenges associated with the crisis of the welfare state. The high rate of ex- offending is an example of a current challenge and mentoring is a social innovation which seeks to take up this challenge. The main goal of this thesis is to interrogate the process of social innovation using mentoring of ex-offenders as an example and to explore mentoring and its implementation within the Czech Republic. The theory of the process of social innovation, as documented in the overseas literature, guided the extensive research conducted in Czech non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that provide mentoring approach. The empirical part of this thesis provides a valuable insight into the process of social innovation from NGO perspective. It includes a comprehensive description of developmental stages of the process as well as highlights the limitations that NGOs encounter in implementing mentoring in the Czech Republic.
