Improving Triple Bottom Line through Reverse Logistics : A Study of Fashion Companies Operating in Sweden

Ly, Ting Ting, Baardemans, Cornelis, Bernardes, Inês January 2015 (has links)
Motivation: Reverse Logistics is part of the concept of Sustainable Supply Chain Management, which is the supply chain consideration of the economic, environmental and social goals of all the stakeholders. These considerations should be balanced in a so-called Triple Bottom Line approach. However, literature approaching the social aspects is almost inexistent and the Triple Bottom Line approach is not common when examining the supply chain problems. The study focuses on companies operating in the Swedish market, since the country is an example in many TBL aspects. Moreover, the study is limited to the fashion apparel industry due to its high amount of returns.  Objectives: The purpose of this study is to explain how Reverse Logistics in the fashion industry can contribute to the social dimension of Triple Bottom Line, as well as to identify the tools and strategies used by the fashion companies to balance the trade-offs between the Triple Bottom Line dimensions in the context of Reverse Logistics and explain the reasons behind the decisions.  Approach: This is a multiple case study of six companies. Both primary (semi-structured interviews) and secondary (corporate reports and websites) sources were used to collect data. The empirical data was analyzed using pattern matching, first each case individually and thereafter cross-case analyses were performed.  Conclusions: The social contribution of Reverse Logistics in the fashion industry is mainly limited to donations to charity. In addition, it is not focused on the workforce, as suggested by the literature. Regarding the trade-offs in Triple Bottom Line, most of the fashion firms do not recognize them in the context of Reverse Logistics. Therefore, companies do not need to prioritize the Triple Bottom Line dimensions or use tools to balance them.

The pursuance for sustainability has been a topic debated among managers and academics around the world. Relación entre la Logística Verde y las Exportaciones de Cobre de las minas ubicadas en la Macro Región Norte y Sur en el Perú en los periodos 2015-2019 / Relationship between Green Logistics and Copper Exports of mines located in the North and South Macro Region in Peru in the periods 2015-2019

Llanos Valentín, Marisol Alberta, Osorio Salvador, Ximena Alondra 01 October 2020 (has links)
The objective of this research is to demonstrate the relationship between green logistics and copper exports in the mines of the North and South Macro Region of Peru in the period 2015 to 2019. It should be noted that the exporting mining companies are located with greater representation in the North and South Region of Peru. Likewise, copper is the main export metal, because our country managed to achieve a mining presence at an international level, due to the geological wealth it has. Therefore, it is essential to identify the relationship between the two variables, to determine if the implementation of green logistics in the processes of mining companies is recommended and if there is an influence on exports. To analyze the relationship between green logistics and copper exports, a quantitative research was carried out, using the Likert scale questionnaire addressed to 32 people belonging to the areas of foreign trade, logistics, operations, of mining companies, which represent 80% of total exports in the period 2015 to 2019. To perform the statistical analysis, the SPSS program was used, in order to contrast the hypotheses raised. In this way, it was concluded that green logistics is not related to copper exports during the analyzed period, the dimensions being studied; logistics activities, environmental requirements and responsibility to define the influence of this sustainable alternative on exports. / Tesis

A framework in green logistics for companies in South Africa

Van Rensburg, Suzanne Louise Jansen 02 1900 (has links)
Until recently, the concept of green logistics has been disregarded by various logistics and transport companies in South Africa. The study on which this dissertation is based explored the green logistics practices that these companies are currently implementing in terms of the key drivers, benefits and barriers. A quantitative research approach was followed, were a survey (Lime) served as the primary research instrument. A census was conducted among 160 companies in Gauteng. The results of the study revealed a significant difference between SMEs (<200) and large (200 and above) companies with regard to their importance rating on green logistics practices. To achieve the primary objective of the study, a framework in green logistics was drafted for SMEs and large companies in South Africa, which outlined practices and opportunities companies can implement in their own businesses to benefit from ‘going green’. The usefulness of the latter mentioned guidelines needs to be tested in future research. / Public Administration and Management / M.. Com. (Logistics Management)

This work analyzes and propagates the sustainability of cabotage transport in the logistics operation of a home appliances manufacturing company. The research method was a case study, unique and holistic, about cabotage transport and its impacts on CO2 emissions in the logistics chain of the company's operations in Brazil. The continental dimensions of this country lead to a significant challenge in the logistics chain to meet the demands of customers, while quickly maintaining its competitiveness and safety. In this context, starting in 2015, the company intensified the use of cabotage shipping in order to reduce insurance costs and avoid problems with cargo theft. Nevertheless, a positive externality went unnoticed: the reduction in CO2 emissions due to the use of this modal. One of the company's sustainability goals is to minimize its climate impact by preventing the release of 25 million tonnes of carbon dioxide and its equivalents (CO2e) over 15 years between 2005 and 2020, and one way is to promote the use of more efficient transport modes. In the review of the literature, it has shown that CO2 emissions by road transport can be up to 10 times greater than maritime transport for the same volume of transported product (SCHMIED and KNÖRR, 2012). Therefore, this research was carried out through the exploratory analysis on the data of shipments made by the company from January/2015 to August/2018 and calculation of the impact on CO2 emissions of the respective shipments, adopting the method proposed in CEN- EN 16258 - "Methodology for calculating and reporting energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from transport services". This paper aims to contribute to the study on sustainability in logistics chains and to bring greater clarity to managers about the positive impacts in competitiveness and environment when adopting an alternative mode of transport to the traditional road transport.

Net present value for green logistics projects: a case study on solar panels installation

Pla, Adrien Unknown Date (has links)
The gravity of the Global Warming consequences force us to face the issue and try the best to mitigate its effects. Green Logistics practices, and especially the case of a Solar Panels Installation on a warehouse or plant’s roof, are studied in this article as solutions to reduce the economic, social and environmental casualties. The Net Present Value (NPV) Model in this paper and its results analysis show that project duration, Carbon Tax, initial energy price and its increasing rate are all positively related to the NPV Value. A high discount rate will, however, turn the NPV negative, thus raising the need of financing help for Green Logistics projects.
