Measuring the Impact of Information Technology on Value and Productivity using a Process-Based Approach: The case for RFID Technology

Subirana, Brian, Eckes, Chad, Herman, George, Sarma, Sanjay, Barrett, Michael 12 March 2004 (has links)
There has been a lot of research addressing the relationship between Information Technology (IT) investments and productivity. Most of the work has been based on firm-level metrics such as total IT investment. We present what we believe is one of the first attempts to create a systematic methodology to assess the impact of IT in business process performance metrics. Our approach builds on the MIT Process Handbook as a basis to both guide the analysis and capture the resulting knowledge for future use. We will present preliminary results on how to use such methodology to analyze the impact of a given IT technology, namely RFID (radio frequency identification devices), in performance metrics of a consumer packaged goods company. We are interested in looking at how IT may impact performance metrics such as productivity, cost and value. We believe our methodology can help CPG companies prioritize their investments. We show results on how the specialization features of the MIT Process Handbook can incorporate performance metrics to help assess such investments in RFID

Lagar mot lösdriveri : En vägledning till hur man finner handlingar från svensk lagstiftning på Riksarkivet

Aronsson, Marie January 2011 (has links)
For centuries it was a crime to be without work or an income in Sweden. Those breaching this law were called vagrants and could be sentenced to forced labor. They stood outside of society in many ways as they were being criminalized. Society's view of them becomes clear by the laws enacted against vagrancy. The investigations that were made in creating the laws do not only say something about society's view of vagrancy, but something about the society itself. In Sweden we have a unique collection of investigations and referrals that are public records through Freedom of the Press. Committees and departmental records are public and contain a lot of information about the society in which they were created. The purpose of this Handbook is to show the access points which are available when you want to take advantage of the wealth of this material. Most of this material is stored at the National Archives in Stockholm and this is a guide to those documents. Between 1825 and 1965 seven committees were appointed and the guide will follow them from initiation to law. The Handbook is intended as a guide to documents legislation in general and to documents about legislation regarding vagrants in particular. Finally, it will show how to find documents on how the laws worked in practice, through the renovated court records in the archives of Svea Court of Appeal. This is a one year master´s thesis in Archival Science.

The Homestead Helper Handbook

Jurzynski, Courtney A 01 July 2021 (has links)
When the pandemic hit, and grocery stores and other necessities started to shut down and create havoc amongst the general public, it became clear that having the ability to rely on a self-sufficient homestead might be the only way to survive and thrive. As a graduate student who has studied architecture and sustainability, this idea seems possible. As an average human with no prior architectural or homesteading knowledge, this idea is daunting. This thesis is asking, is there a systematic way to develop a tool to evaluate, and aid in the design of, a self-sustaining, off-grid homestead? Can this tool make homesteading and living a self-sufficient, off-grid lifestyle more attainable to any person who wishes to try it out? With these questions in mind, the Homestead Helper Handbook: A Guide to Help Start a Self-Sufficient, Off-Grid Homestead in New England from the Ground Up has been developed to offer a cohesive approach, detailing the components that could go into the makeup of the homestead. Suggestions regarding the site, livestock, crops, and built structures will be made based off of specific input values of the future homesteader, leaving the reader with a well-rounded, precise breakdown and understanding of what might go into the homestead, allowing it to successfully function off-grid and self-sufficiently. Thus, it makes the idea of living a self-sufficient and off-grid life in New England more attainable to any human who wishes to do so.

Evaluation of Resident Policy Handbooks of Eight Assisted Living Facilities in Virginia

Lee, Sung-jin 19 June 2006 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine resident policies in assisted living facilities and to recommend consistent policies for resident handbooks. To accomplish this purpose, in the first phase, a mail survey form was developed to determine current resident policies provided in existing assisted living facilities in Virginia. In the second phase, the researcher analyzed each policy from the eight participating assisted living facilities and then compared the policies to determine which policies should be included in resident handbooks. Policies with similar content, but with different names were categorized together. The study employed the content-analysis method, which is oriented to qualitative research. The number of resident policies dealt with in this study totaled 56. The framework for analyzing resident policies was divided into three sections: 1) policies related to administration, 2) policies related to resident services, and 3) resident activities listed in the handbooks. As a result of content analysis and evaluation of policies as they related to the aging process, a total of 27 recommendations were suggested. Two recommendations were suggested based on the findings of the resident handbooks survey, and 25 recommendations were suggested from analysis of the handbooks. The recommendation of resident policies can help staff to manage assisted living facilities efficiently, and the handbooks will be able to offer prospective residents clear information as they make decisions among various assisted living facilities. Moreover, current residents will benefit from lucid and consistent resident handbooks in that they will provide explicit information about policies and services. / Master of Science

Fahlén, Sara, Nädele Ljungqvist, Josefa January 2012 (has links)
During collaboration with the underwear store Borneving has information on textile materialsbeen developed. The store always offers excellent service when it comes to try out the best fitof garments but lacks basic knowledge of textile materials and how they are made. A textilehandbook has been produced to prevent this problem. The lack of knowledge will now beeliminated so the staff can provide the best service. To find out how the information in the best way would be presented for the store werepedagogy studied. Learning works differently for everyone. Some will remember pictureswhile others can more easily register text. Learning takes place between at least two people. One person may be in the form of a book. In order to be critical to subjects it requiresknowledge. All knowledge is positive for the individual and forms the basis of one'sopportunities in life.In order so the staff all the time can go back to the information generated to the shop theinformation has been selected to be presented in a printed format. The result of this was ahandbook. It includes information about materials to which the goods in Bornevings shopconsists of. Materials covered are cotton, polyester, polyamide, elastane, modal, viscose, lyocell, wool and silk. The handbook describes the basic of how a material is created, fromfiber through to manufacturing processes such as woven and knitted, and how the differentmethods can affect the final result. The handbook was distributed to a select group of different age, gender and occupation. Thiswas to control the text's level so it was easy to take in and that technical terms are eliminated. All to create a simple and informative handbook as possible. / Program: Textil produktutveckling med entreprenörs- och affärsinriktning
