Two typologies (lodging and cultural and natural interpretation center) are gathered together. Is located in one of the most visited towns of the tourist route of the Colca Valley - Sibayo. The objective of the project is to reinterpret the vernacular architecture of the Town, in contemporary architecture, without causing conflict with urban / rural context. For this reason, the project achieves a good architectural solution by respecting the village checkerboard axes and integrating it. The project proposes a functional organization by means of squares linked by an axis, at the same time is a permeable medium between public and private spaces. These axes and squares allow the interaction between visitor and resident reinforcing the experiential idea. The package of functions of the project includes a public area that are the workshops; dance, textile, gastronomy and agriculture, the center of cultural interpretation, in the private zone the tourist lodge and the rooms of this same one is proposed, which are closer to nature and have the best views The material proposed in the project is native to the area such as: river stone, straw, armed concrete face, and wood. These materials are in harmony with the natural and urban context of the town. In conclusion, the project responds well to the stated objective and gives an architectural solution suited to its environment and users. / Tesis

Horečky / Horečky

Obrusníková, Magdalena January 2018 (has links)
The main aim of the diploma thesis is the revitalization of the site Horečky in Beskydy mountains, which contains several abandoned buildings. In the introduction, the work provides an analysis in the wider context and comes up with a concept of urban strategy on the larger scale. The main item of the urban and architectural study itself is a complex of existing buildings called Pantata, Marianka and Panimama and their setting in the terraced hilly landscape. The first necessary step is purging the buildings of nonconceptual extensions, which were added in the past. The function, which was chosen based on the outcome of the analysis part is a recreational accommodation facility oriented on educational school trips and alternative forms of experience-based educational methods. The building Pantáta gets to be the main center of the function itself and the 3rd and 4th stock is designed as additional accommodation facility. The building is also complemented with an extension building located in the terrace in the sloping-down terrain. This spatial concept also enables expansion of the exterior space in front of the historical building. The building Marianka is designed to be the main accommodation facility. The building Panimama is removed and a forest-cabin accommodation area is designed at the plot as another alternative way of staying in nature. There are also other landscape interventions and pavilions designed within the thesis project.

The modernity/tradition interface amongst urban black South Africans

Bonora, Franco 01 January 2002 (has links)
Since the 1950s modernization theory predicted within the Third World a trajectory for social evolution and development mirroring perceived social and developmental evolution in Western societies since the 17th Century. Despite this theory being much discredited in both Western societies and the developing world; this theory still forms the basis for much analysis and policy formulation within post-1990 South Africa. This thesis looks at various aspects of urban black South Africans' existence and concludes that African tradition has found a place within an urban existence due to it's flexibility in dealing with peoples' daily challenges. An urban existence can thus no-longer be thought of as supplanting tradition in favour of western influences, but rather as bringing about a mixture of western and traditional influences - with positive and negative theoretical and practical developmental consequences / Development Studies / M.A.
