Implementation of hostel redevelopment within the city of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality

Mothotoana, Molapane Hosea 08 1900 (has links)
Most hostels are being redeveloped through the Hostel Redevelopment Programme from single sex accommodation to rental (family) units. The study was conducted on the City Deep and Nobuhle Hostel Redevelopment Projects as implemented in the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality (COJMM). Hostel Redevelopment Projects proved to contribute positively towards addressing the challenges and housing shortages in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province. There is a need for Government to plan other projects concurrently with the Hostel Redevelopment Projects as an attempt to deal with the displacees resulting from the Hostel Redevelopment Projects. Furthermore, there is also a need to redevelop each hostel in its totality as opposed to only a few phases of improvement. There is also a need for Government (COJMM) to design frameworks that will guide any proposed Hostel Redevelopment Project as an attempt to achieve uniformity. These frameworks need to include the management of the final product. Lastly, Government should make funding for the maintenance of public hostels available prior to hostels being redeveloped. / Public Administration / M. Tech. (Public Management)

Centro de Asistencia para niños en Situación de Abandono / Assistance Center for Children without Parental Care

Benites Jáuregui, Jackeline Rosario 05 July 2021 (has links)
The rate of cases that arise daily about child abuse has increased in recent years making it alarming. These situations lead minors to move away from their families and leave home at an early age, so they only have to take refuge in the streets and forcing them to skip important stages in their lives such as childhood. That is why the government seeks to help this child population at risk and vulnerable, providing them with food and protection. However, the infrastructures that seek to attend these cases are neither compliant nor adequate to provide care for infants, according to a study conducted by the Ombudsman's Office. That is why the project seeks to identify the main characteristics of this infant user, as well as their main needs and basic requirements for a better quality of life. Therefore, the main challenge of the project is to generate a new approach or reinterpretation of the typical functional package of the shelter typology, including a psychological center for the treatment of improvement of the infant, with the purpose that this is progressively integrated with society and possibly join new families. To meet this objective, this child care center was designed with flexible and adaptable spaces with the intention of changing the perception of the infant from a closed and rigid space to a free one where he can express himself without restrictions and develop his interrelation with other infants and children. other users of the project. / Tesis

Langer, Ivo January 2016 (has links)
The project deals with a new building for temporary accommodation with a cafe. The hostel has an L shaped house plan with a stiffening reinforced concrete tube passing through all three floors. A glazed facade is intended to be placed on the part of the tube that is found before perimeter walls, which creates a dominant feature of the entire building. The roofing of the building is ensured by a single skin flat and glass sloping roof, which completes the whole building architecturally.
