The objective of this research is to understand what factors are conducive to a good organizational climate within the nursing team of the surgical center at a university hospital in view of this, we seek to have the views of nurses, technicians and nursing assistants in total of 37 professionals, about the ten dimensions considered relevant to a healthy organizational environment. The theoretical findings found on the subject were used to develop a questionnaire, self-administered, containing 60 closed questions and distributed in ten dimensions. The quantitative analyzes were developed from the SPSS software according to the rules of the instrument. In short, we intend to observe the opinion of the servers about the current situation and desired situation. The results showed that the servers are not satisfied with the dimensions of safety and working conditions, indicated that the training is limited, moreover, there is no recognition when the job is well done, however there is satisfaction concerning the salary received. According to these conditions, it is possible to understand and specify measures that allow a good organizational climate. / A qualidade do ambiente organizacional influencia cada vez mais o comportamento dos colaboradores nas Instituições, interferindo, assim, na performance, na ampliação do potencial das pessoas e nos resultados. O objetivo desta pesquisa consistiu em conhecer quais são os fatores favoráveis a um bom Clima Organizacional na equipe de enfermagem do centro cirúrgico de um hospital universitário. Em vista disso, buscou-se obter a opinião dos enfermeiros, técnicos e auxiliares de enfermagem num total de 37 profissionais, a respeito das dez dimensões consideradas relevantes a um ambiente organizacional saudável. Os achados teóricos encontrados a respeito do tema foram aplicados no desenvolvimento de um questionário, autoadministrado, contendo 60 questões fechadas e distribuídas em dez dimensões. As análises foram quantitativas, desenvolvidas a partir do software SPSS de acordo com as normas do instrumento. Em suma, pretendeu-se observar a opinião dos servidores acerca da situação vigente e situação desejada. Os resultados demonstraram que os servidores não estão satisfeitos com as dimensões: segurança e condições do trabalho, indicaram que os treinamentos são escassos, além disso, não existe reconhecimento quando o trabalho é bem feito, todavia existe satisfação em relação ao salário recebido. Desta forma, tornou-se possível compreender e indicar medidas que viabilizem um bom Clima Organizacional.

Germinating good behaviors : A game prototype to test players' incentive of choice

In this paper, we propose and develop a model for a prototype research tool based on a social dilemma game which use is widely spread in social psychology and experimental economics, the Public Goods Game. This tool generates from the necessity to expand the accessibility and versatility of this popular game as well as reach for newer audiences that might be otherwise deterred by the traditional Public Goods Game. Also, using this tool, we perform an experiment to try to find a possible preference towards either punishment or reward in the current population and find a possible correlation between said preference and three different cultural spheres (geographical, generational and gender).

Cette thèse porte sur la modélisation du comportement humain dans les simulations de combat naval. Au sein de l'entreprise DCNS, les simulations de combat naval permettent d'évaluer les performances opérationnelles des navires militaires, dans un scénario donné. Les simulations actuelles ne permettent pas de prendre en compte l'analyse et la décision d'un opérateur, qui peuvent parfois conduire à des réactions inattendues. Le but de cette thèse est donc de modéliser le comportement d'un opérateur pour les simulations de combats navals.Pour représenter les connaissances, la logique non monotone la plus employée a été utilisée: la logique des défauts. Une prise en compte du temps a été ajoutée à cette logique des défauts. La logique des défauts va permettre de calculer des extensions. Chaque extension correspond à une action possible pour l'opérateur.Une méthode qui permet de choisir une extension a été définie. Cette méthode simule la décision de l'opérateur et elle prend en compte le caractère de l'opérateur. / This thesis deals with the modelling of operator behavior in naval action simulations. At DCNS, simulations of naval action estimate the operational performance of warships or submarines for a given scenario. However, the current simulations do not take into account the analysis and the decision of an operator, which can produce unexpected reactions. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a system allowing to model the behavior of an operatorin the naval action simulations.To represent knowledge, the most widely known non-monotonic logic is used : the default logic. A consideration of time is added to this logic. The default logic allows to calculate extensions. Each extension represents a possible action for the operator.A method to choose an extension is dened, which allows to simulate the decision of the operator and it handles the operator character.

The endocrinology of personality, leadership, and economic decision making

Do endocrine systems influence personality and social behavior? Although animal research has identified several hormone-behavior relationships and the mechanisms that give rise to them, much less is known about hormones and social functioning in humans. This dissertation used three large data sets to investigate whether testosterone and cortisol were related to variation in personality constructs (Study 1), leadership behaviors (Study 2), and economic decision making (Studies 3 and 4). Study 1 revealed that basal testosterone was negatively associated with conscientiousness, basal cortisol was negatively associated with extraversion but positively associated with social dominance orientation, and the interaction between testosterone and cortisol was associated with the implicit power motive. Study 2 found that the testosterone-cortisol interaction predicted leadership behaviors, and Study 3 showed that basal testosterone as well as change in cortisol predicted economic decisions in the Hawk-Dove Game. Finally, Study 4 demonstrated that aggression predicted decisions to punish unfair monetary offers in the Ultimatum and Third Party Punishment Games. Aggression was also related to women's changes in testosterone from before to after the games. Taken together, these studies provide important evidence that testosterone and cortisol are related to personality, leadership, and social decision making. More broadly, this dissertation lays the empirical foundation for further inquiry on the complex biological systems that regulate personality and social behavior.

A computational model of suspense for the augmentation of intelligent story generation

In this dissertation, I present Dramatis, a computational human behavior model of suspense based on Gerrig and Bernardo's de nition of suspense. In this model, readers traverse a search space on behalf of the protagonist, searching for an escape from some oncoming negative outcome. As the quality or quantity of escapes available to the protagonist decreases, the level of suspense felt by the audience increases. The major components of Dramatis are a model of reader salience, used to determine what elements of the story are foregrounded in the reader's mind, and an algorithm for determining the escape plan that a reader would perceive to be the most likely to succeed for the protagonist. I evaluate my model by comparing its ratings of suspense to the self-reported suspense ratings of human readers. Additionally, I demonstrate that the components of the suspense model are sufficient to produce these human-comparable ratings.

Vários estudos encontraram maiores taxas de mortalidade por batidas no trânsito entre homens do que entre mulheres e entre homens jovens do que entre homens mais velhos. No entanto, há uma lacuna quanto a explicações para essas diferenças. Esse estudo, diferentemente dos antecessores, parte de hipóteses postuladas a priori, sobre como devem variar as taxas de mortalidade por batidas no trânsito, de acordo com sexo e idade. Espera-se encontrar a presença e ausência de certas associações e interações, com base na teoria moderna da seleção sexual aplicada ao estudo do comportamento humano, especificamente, a síndrome do macho jovem. O objetivo do presente estudo é comparar tendências nas taxas de mortalidade por batida de carro e moto segundo sexo e idade. Trata-se de um estudo ecológico com Estado como unidade geográfica de análise e o ano calendário como unidade temporal de análise. A população do estudo foi composta por homens e mulheres de 18 a 60 anos residentes no Estado do Rio de Janeiro, entre 2004 e 2010, e no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, entre os anos de 2001 e 2010. Os resultados mostraram que o número de mortes por batida de carro e de moto, considerando o número de habilitados para guiar tais veículos, foi maior em homens do que em mulheres e em indivíduos mais jovens do que mais velhos. Além dessa interessante congruência entre os resultados encontrados e as hipóteses postuladas, descobrimos uma intrigante exceção: no Estado do Rio de Janeiro, a taxa de mortalidade por batida de moto foi consideravelmente maior em mulheres do que em homens. As tendências nas taxas de mortalidade por batida de carro e moto no Estado do Rio de Janeiro vêm apresentando uma queda nos últimos anos. No Rio Grande do Sul, as taxas de mortalidade por batida de moto também vêm caindo ao longo dos anos, enquanto que as taxas de mortalidade por batida de carro vêm apresentando aumento. Ce travail, mené conjointement entre CNPP et le Laboratoire d’Énergétique et de Mécanique Théorique et Appliquée, est consacré à la mise en place d’un modèle d’évacuation de personnes, dans l’optique d’une application en Ingénierie de Sécurité Incendie. Le modèle de cheminement de personnes développé dans ce manuscrit est un modèle physique reposant sur une équation de conservation de la densité de personnes. Il est basé sur des hypothèses simples et réalistes résultant de l’observation de mouvements de foule, et utilise une vision macroscopique des personnes caractérisées par une densité moyenne. Ce modèle est mis en œuvre sur des cas de vérification et de comparaison issus de la littérature. Des expériences d’évacuation sont réalisées à échelle réelle afin de récolter des données quantitatives sur le mouvement des personnes et de valider de façon pertinente le modèle de cheminement de personnes. En outre, une stratégie est proposée afin d’intégrer dans la modélisation les contraintes thermiques et optiques liées au feu ainsi que leur impact sur le processus d’évacuation. Enfin, des simulations d’évacuation intégrant les effets du feu sont effectuées sur une configuration à grande échelle / This work was conducted as a collaboration between CNPP and the laboratory LEMTA. It was devoted to the implementation of an emergency egress model offering prospects for use in Fire Safety Engineering. The pedestrian movement model described in this manuscript is a physical model relying on a people density balance equation. This model is based on three fundamental assumptions resulting from pedestrian phenomena commonly observed, especially in crowds. Its mathematical formulation assumes that people are regarded as a mean density in a macroscopic way. The pedestrian model was tested on verification and comparison cases extracted from literature. Evacuation drills were also performed at real scale without fire constraints to collect some quantitative data like egress times or flows, and to validate the people motion model. Furthermore, a mathematical strategy is propounded in order to integrate thermal and optical stresses into the evacuation model and to take into consideration their incidence on evacuation processes. Finally, egress simulations are achieved on a large-scale configuration considering different scenarios involving fires

Factors contributing to withdrawal behaviour in early adolescents

The researcher is concerned about the lack of attention given to withdrawn early adolescents (WEAs) at school. During early adolescence, the foundations for lasting character, personality traits and social interaction are laid. Learners exhibiting withdrawal behaviour are described as being quiet, reserved, removed or distant. Attempts by educators to get them involved in lessons often end in failure and this causes educators to become frustrated and confused about how to deal with these learners. The aim of this study is therefore to establish the factors that contribute to withdrawal behaviour in early adolescents. The researcher devised an identification instrument that makes the identification of WEAs much easier for educators.
