Bureaucratic Orientations as Related to the Need Fulfillment Deficiencies of Teachers in a Medium Size School District in Texas

Ukpong, Macartan O. (Macartan Oscar) 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine the direction and strength of the relationships that exist among teachers between bureaucratic orientation (the criterion) and each of the five human need variables that include security, social, esteem, autonomy, self—actualization, and four demographic factors that include sex, experience, educational level, and age. This study was also concerned with determining if the bureaucratic orientation of teachers is affected by deficiencies in their human needs and by their demographic differences. Determination of these relationships was accomplished by using an intercorrelation matrix of product-moment correlations and stepwise multiple regression.

Struktura dne u lidí bez domova / Structure of the day in the life of the homeless people

Novotná, Linda January 2021 (has links)
(in English): This thesis focuses on the structure of the day of the homeless people. It is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. In the first chapter of the theoretical part the basic terminology of homelessness is examined, with its internal and external factors and its typology. The next chapter is dedicated to the basic human needs, it introduces the theories of human needs of the renowned authors; furthermore, it describes the needs of the homeless people. The last chapter of the theoretical part compares the structure of the day of homeless people, to the people with secure housing. The practical part of the thesis focuses on the structure of the day of the homeless people. Using the methods of semi-structured interviews and participant observation, the thesis examines the particular structure of the day, the needs these people have and how they meet them. The qualitative survey was conducted at the day care facility of The Salvation Army.

Potřeby klientů domu na půl cesty v rámci tvorby a realizace vlastních volnočasových aktivit a definování parametrů programu pro jejich podporu / The needs of the halfway house in the creation of their leisure activities and definition of the program for their support

Kholl, Pavel January 2013 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with a leisure time of clients of the Halfway House. The aim of the thesis is to map the content and structure of their leisure time. The thesis seeks to define what the representatives of the target group need for better self realization. Based on these findings author of the thesis design a new program supporting their spending of leisure time. The thesis consists of two parts: theoretical part and practical part. The theoretical part presents a halfway house social service and other programs of the civic association DOM. There are described clients' problems with integration into society. This part of the thesis focuses particularly on the origin of these problems, which mainly come from inadequate care in early childhood and bad family environment or life in an institutonal care later. All psychological and physical needs of a child are not fulfill due to poor care in early childhood and it affects his future mental development. Thesis refers to Pesso Boyden System Psychomotor (PBSP) theory created by Albert Pesso and Diane Boyden - Pesso. PBSP define five basic needs which are necessary for healthy mental development in early childhood. The theoretical part also deals with theory of attachment. Attachment is an emotional bond between child and mother, which has major...

Distribution matters: Meeting human needs at sustainable carbon consumption

Barbour, Felix January 2022 (has links)
To avoid irreversible damage to the climate system and biosphere, the majority of the world’s countries must reduce rates of resource throughput. However, the socio-economic conditions for satisfying basic human needs at low resource use have received scant empirical attention. I apply cross-country panel analysis and dynamic linear modelling to explore how different dimensions of inequality affect countries’ abilities to deliver a good life for all at sustainable levels of carbon consumption. My results suggest that inequalities reduce socio-ecological performance, with income inequality reducing the proportion of carbon channelled into meeting basic needs and wealth inequality increasing the carbon-intensity of expenditure. Overall, this study highlights the importance of reducing inequalities in a resource-constrained world. Social media summary. Income inequality raises the carbon cost of meeting basic human needs at the national and global scales.

A Development of a Home Preparedness Kit for Urban Users : Initiating and Sustaining Home Preparedness: A Study of Psychological and Practical Needs in the Face of Potential Crisis / Framtagning av ett kit för hemberedskap till urbana användare

Jönsson, Evelina, Zwedberg, Lovisa January 2024 (has links)
This master’s thesis project, conducted in Industrial Design Engineering at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and in collaboration with Trangia, addresses the increasing significance of home preparedness due to global conflicts and natural disasters. The relevance of home preparedness is growing both in Swedish society and for Trangia, prompting the company to participate in this expanding market. Therefore, the mission is to develop customized solutions for cooking, heating up a room, and water purification to assist urban users in preparing for emergencies. The project utilized the Double Diamond methodology which offers a clear structure that systematically leads through the complex phases of product development; Discover, Define, Develop and Deliver. The initial phase of the project, Discover, included comprehensive information gathering, user studies, and branding exploration to expand Trangia’s product line. The project prioritized to identify the most suitable and healthy fuel sources for the user and delved into the technical principles enabling cooking, heating, and water purification. In the second phase, Define, the target group was narrowed down to urban users within three behavioral groups that exhibited distinct needs. Here, a design space was created that addressed the practical and emotional needs, ultimately shaping the functional requirements. The third phase, Develop, was initiated by the design space. Here, the concept development activities started, which subsequently led to the creation of Trangia KRIS in the Deliver-phase. A home preparedness kit comprising a crisis kitchen, Krisköket, a crisis heater, Krisvärmaren and a service proposal, including a disaster page educating potential buyers on the risks of being unprepared. Along with a coffee table book including an info card collection offering user-friendly instructions and emergency preparedness tips. The project emphasizes the importance of home preparedness, focusing on essential actions such as access to food, clean water, and warmth during crises like power outages or conflicts, rather than relying solely on products for survival.

Factors contributing to sleep deprivation in a multi-disciplinary intensive care unit

Watson, Heather Dawn 11 1900 (has links)
The abstract on the file is incorrect, use the the one in the system as it summerizes the full text. / This attempted to describe factors contributing to sleep deprivation in the a multidisciplinary intensive care unit in KwaZulu-Natal Province. A quantitative, descriptive research design was adopted and structured interviews were conducted with 34 adult patients. Most factors contributing to these patients' sleep deprivation are basic physiological needs. Much can be done to enhance patients' abilities to sleep if noise (from alarms, monitors, televisions, telephones and footsteps) could be controlled, patients' pain would be managed effectively, doctors would visit the patients regularly, doctors and nurses use lay terms when talking to patients. Visible clocks and windows will help patients to maintain time orientation. Friendly, approachable and respectful nurses who introduce themselves to the patients help' to reduce patients' stress levels and improve their abilities to sleep. / Health Sciences / M.A. (Health Studies)

Country-Adjusted Motivation : A Conceptual Model, applied in the Context of Motivation of a Code of Conduct

Högman, Kristina January 2014 (has links)
Companies adopt codes of conduct to set minimum standards on ethical issues, minimums that suppliers must keep. Problems has been found by other researchers regarding suppliers motivation to comply to the code. This study develops a conceptual model for how motivation can be adjusted to different countries, depending on economic situation, politic stability and culture of the country.   Country-Adjusted Motivation is made  by shaping motivating in relation to the human need that dominates in the country and by using the national culture to colour motivation. The model is applied in the context of how to motivate suppliers to a code of conduct in different countries. The model Country-Adjusted Motivation could as well be applied to other multinational contexts, where strong motivation is needed.

Healing through the Bones: Empowerment and the 'Process of Exhumations' in the Context of Cyprus

Fics, Kristian Taxiarchis Phikas 19 January 2016 (has links)
Inter-ethnic and intra-ethnic violent conflict created a divide in Cyprus (1950-1974) that still exists to this day. This study explores specifically an effect of violent conflict – Missing Persons – and the ‘process of exhumations,’ which is defined as; the recovery of Missing Persons, identification, and reunification of the Missing with loved ones as a key component of peacebuilding via inter-ethnic reconciliation and restorative justice. This process is important for peacebuilding because it empowers individuals, communities, and nation-states to satisfy basic human psycho-social needs in order to deal with the trauma of past violence, to recognize loss, and to seek closure of uncertainty to prevent the transgenerational transmission of trauma and escalation of violence between and within ethnic societies. By interviewing eight experts on the Cypriot conflict about what the ‘process of exhumations’ does in Cyprus, revealed the challenges and successes that may arise during and after the process for sustainable peace. / February 2016

Human and social progress: projects and perspectives

Neesham, Cristina Unknown Date (has links) (PDF)
This study examines three important conceptions of social and human progress, evaluates them critically, and proposes an alternative conception of a rather different type. The first three conceptions are respectively found in, or at least based on, Condorcet’s theory of the historical progress of the sciences and the arts; Adam Smith’s conception of the progressive increase of national wealth; and Karl Marx’s ideal of the communist society. Despite their fundamental differences, these three theories have several common elements. Each one proposes a social project aimed at achieving an ideal society; each ultimately seeks the improvement of the human condition; each focuses however on social rather than human progress, so that its conception of the latter (and of humanness) must be constructed from a set of associated ideas about human nature, life, needs, worth, potential, or fulfilment, and about relations among these.
