The Arnspiger Value-Oriented Rationale and General Education for Student Self-Understanding and Continuous Self-Development

Preas, Mary Elizabeth Foster 08 1900 (has links)
The problem of this study was to describe a conceptual design for general education with interdisciplinary qualities leading to student self-understanding and continuous self-development. This study emerged out of the need to gain some insight into the causes of decline and/or abandonment of general education programs during periods of social disorganization, and to determine whether a relationship.exists between mounting social problems and the more intense kinds of problems experienced by college-age youth during these periods.

Evaluating the progress towards the implementation of the National Development Plan with specific reference to early childhood development: The case of early childhood development centres in Site-B Khayelitsha 2012-2018

Sixhaso, Linda Patience January 2018 (has links)
Masters in Public Administration - MPA / The historic social and economic inequalities had a negative impact on majority of young children in South Africa. This dates back to post-apartheid era where the development of young children. of some previously disadvantaged communities, has been weakened by inadequate access to health care, quality education, social service and quality nutrition. The present study evaluated the progress made on the implementation of the National Development Plan (NDP) 2030 using a case study of Early Childhood Development (ECO) centres in Site-B Township based in Khayelitsha. To support the notion of "leaving no one behind and universal access to education", the study used a Humanistic Approach Theory Framework and Human Capital Approach to determine the current status of the formalisation of the ECD centres, infrastructure and equipment, basic service delivery as well as safety at the ECD centres in Site-B. The study adopted a qualitative research design using a semi structured face-to-face interview schedules with respondents. Purposive sampling was applied to select the critical case perceived useful for the study. It comprised of 20 respondents, all principals or owners of the selected ECD centres. ECD centres were selected from the database obtained from the Department of Social Development (DSD) and the Department of Basic Education (DBE). From the samples, the study revealed that even though a lot has been done by different stakeholders to support Early Childhood Development, learning centres located in historically disadvantaged areas such as Site-B still face a number of challenges. Key among them are: challenges to comply with the registration process and lack of trained and skilled teachers; inadequate funding to meet compliance standards; insufficient infrastructure and educational equipment and lack of support for ECO safety and security measures and health related emergencies.

Jorge de Sena e a Peregrinação Infecta: das paisagens poéticas que se (não) dão a ver / Jorge de Sena and the Infectious Pilgrimage: unseen poetic landscapes

Santos, Alessandro Barnabé Ferreira 29 September 2017 (has links)
Jorge de Sena figures as a poetic personality of difficult framing in the poetic scene production from the 40\'s to 60\'s in Portugal. He was not a presentialist or neorealist poet, nor surrealist or even adhering faithfully to Fernando Pessoas own poetics. This Portuguese poet forges a poetics of his own from the idea of testimony and metamorphosis which stands as the poetical result of the aesthetic and ethical act of his poetry, that occurring through a symbiosis between the empirical subject and the poetic subject. This thesis investigates the figurations or not of poetic landscapes related to his destinations of exile: Portugal, Brazil, and United States of America. Therefore, what can be seen or what is hidden from these places and in these spaces of his infected pilgrimage, in his Peregrinatio ad Loca Infecta (1969), an infectious diary turned into an aesthetic object in the ethical configuration of his circumstantial testimony. To do that so, this investigation is supported on geographic studies from a humanistic and cultural orientation, and also upon the studies concerning to the relation between poetry and landscape promoted by the French schollar Michel Collot.

Criticidade na educação profissional : prática e ferramentas dialógicas

Zank, Cláudia January 2016 (has links)
The present Ph.D. dissertation aims to investigate, alongside teachers of professional education, the development of criticality from teaching practices that employ tools such as forum and collective text editor. This research is conducted upon four branches: humanism, criticism, professional education, and technological resources. The focus of the first branch lies on the humanistic education. The second branch sheds lights on the different interpretations concerning criticism throughout history. The context of professional education is the point of the third branch. In the fourth branch, technological resources are addressed, with emphasis on tools such as forum and collective text editor. This inquiry is carried out from a qualitative approach based on the research strategy known as case study. Three extension courses in blended mode have been offered with the purpose of data collection. The research sources that have been utilized were interviews and observations of the actions and records related to the subjects participating in the study in the following tools: forum, collective text editor and Word text editor. The exploration shows that the understanding of criticism is a construction involving three aspects: political sense, judgment function, and analysis, questioning and reflection. When it comes to the awareness of criticism, theses aspects had already been conceived by the subjects to certain degrees and forms. Nevertheless, evidence indicates that dialogic teaching practices may have contributed to the insertion of new elements. Regarding an alignment with hegemonic and counter-hegemonic conceptions, the data reveal three different possibilities: teachers who have traits of one and other conception; teachers whose discourse is more aligned to the hegemonic conception; and teachers whose discourse is more aligned to the counter-hegemonic conception. This study demonstrates that the competency model and the utilitarian perspective of professional teaching are naturalized. In other words, they are accepted and not questioned, optimizing the force and presence of the hegemonic conception towards education. The data also confirm the dialogic character of the previously mentioned tools, forum and collective text editor, and signal that they may be utilized for different purposes and on diverse moments of the teaching practices due to their various features. This research remarks that criticality is developed as the elements/aspects composing an understanding of criticism are included in the comprehension and actions of the subjects until criticism transforms reality. Thus, the fact that there is no evidence of an introductory phase of criticalization may suggest that criticality can be developed in different contexts, including the educational framework, but not only this one. In terms of the present study, given pedagogical purposes, dialogic teaching practices that employ forum and collective text editor may enable criticism aspects to be inserted in the comprehension and critical action of students. The absence of such practices in a professional education context might, on the other hand, strengthen the perpetuation of a hegemony that keeps its interests by means of noncritical teachers, schools and students.

Developing the employability competency for the tourism and hotel industry in Hong Kong

Yip, Lilian Lai Hang January 2017 (has links)
In 2000, Hong Kong had a major educational reform, which aimed to address the inadequacies of the previous education system in order to enable the majority of Hong Kong’s population to achieve lifelong learning and an all-round education. These are also the overall aims of education in Hong Kong for the 21st century. A new education structure and new curricula for primary and secondary schools were some of the focuses of the reform. The tourism and hotel industry is one of the four pillar industries in Hong Kong. As a growing service industry, it relies heavily on the quality of their employees and the stability of manpower. However, this industry has been facing difficulties in recruiting and retaining qualified employees. Many studies have been conducted to discover the ideal employability competency and to develop strategies to attract and retain the right employees. Through the study of employability theories and in-depth interviews with education practitioners in the tourism and hotel industry, this research study links-up two knowledge areas of employability competency for the tourism and hotel industry and the generic competency development in primary and secondary school education in Hong Kong. The results reveal that previous studies have not resolved human capital problems, because these problems are rooted in the incompetence in generic skills, values and attitudes of individuals. This study highlights the foundational role of generic competency in employability. It proposes that a generic competency, which has to be nurtured from a young age, is essential for employability. The findings inspired an extended concept of employability and contributed to a new generic competency structure. For primary and secondary school education, this study proposes the incorporation of a refined generic competency component in the school curriculum, along with strategies to mitigate possible barriers of implementation. The proposed employability structure can also be used by employment consultation services or serve as a recruitment, training, development and retention guide in the tourism and hotel industry. These proposals could nurture new generations with the required employability competency for the tourism and hotel industry, meeting the challenges of the 21st century.

Solange Cecilia Cavalcante Dantas 12 September 2007 (has links)
CoordenaÃÃo de AperfeiÃoamento de Pessoal de NÃvel Superior / The high prevalence of poorly controlled asthma and the associated high morbimortality have been shown to be related mainly to under-diagnosis and inadequate treatment of this condition. This present significant cost adding further burden on the healthcare budget The consequences of poorly controlled asthma are repeated clinic visits repeated emergency room admissions and repeated hospital admissions In extreme but numerous occasions asthma attacks resulting from poor management lead to deaths Therefore it had been stated that a key component of many asthma management guidelines is the recommendation for patient education and regular medical review These (patient education and regular medication/medical reviews) are primary areas for the pharmacist to make an impact Objective To describe and to analyze the influence of a Pharmaceutical Care (PC) service in the clinical and humanistic outcomes through the pharmacotherapeutic follow-up (PF) of a group of asthmatic patients attending an ambulatory care facility by hospital referral in the State of the Cearà Methods Thirty patients participated of this longitudinal prospective and descriptive study in the period from August 2006 to May 2007 Instruments used to collect information from patients were an asthma-specific quality of life questionnaire (The Brazilian version of the Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire AQLQ) daily records of symptoms of the asthma and a questionnaire to assess satisfaction with Pharmaceutical Care services The PF and the classification of drug related problems (DPR) followed Cipolle et al criteria (2004) and adopted a systematic PWDT (Pharmacistâs Work up of Drug Therapy) approach in identifying and resolving DPR Results The majority of patients were females (80%) 10% completed primary school level only mean age was 46  x 11 9 30% were on married social pension and with income of two minimum salaries Patients used an average of two inhaled medications (corticosteroids and bronchodilator) /day and more than 50% of patients did not use their inhaler medication devices correctly Sixty four DPR were identified, of which 31 25% were related to poor compliance with drug therapy After the provision of Pharmaceutical Care and through following a PWDT strategy 66 6% of the patients did not report nocturnal symptoms of asthma and did not have to use short-acting bronchodilator for asthma symptoms By the conclusion of the study a significant improvement (p< 0 05) was observed in the four domains of the AQLQ In the questionnaire assessing satisfaction with the Pharmaceutical Care services a superior index of 95% was observed in all its domains Conclusion The improvement seen in all aspect of the outcomes measured including clinical and humanistic outcomes after the provision of PC has provided evidence for the role of the pharmacist in asthma management using a structured approach to educate the patient about the pharmacotherapy regimen address compliance issues and making drug therapy interventions that lead to rationalizing therapy and minimizing DPR

Conversion Rate Optimization Strategy in UX : Applying the Theory of Four Behavior Types Within E-Commerce Conversion Rate Optimization

Matilda, Nilsson January 2019 (has links)
This study uses the mindset of Bryan Eisenbergs four behavior types (Competitive, Spontaneous, Humanistic, and Methodical), to in- crease the conversion rate and the user experience while shopping online. Traditional retailers, i.e physical stores, are not a priority anymore and a challenge for an e-commerce site is to maintain a relationship to the customer online. The mindset of the four be- havior types is aimed to be used to target the universe of buyers. This mindset and theory will be applied to a CRO-design process, where the focus is to increase the conversion rate optimization of a website. An extensive literature study, an analysis phase, user tests and a questionnaire were used to decide whether this concept is worth using as a part of the process or not. The results indicate that the concept of the four behavior types can be used to target the audience. The thesis states that the concept could be used as a general foundation to further develop this mindset.

Nonprofessional Healthcare Staff Perceptions Regarding Inmate Self-Injury in Georgia

Harmer, Alisa Adele 01 January 2018 (has links)
Self-injury in correctional facilities is an increasing problem. Healthcare staff are tasked with responding to and treating self-injurious inmates. Research concerning the perceptions of prison self-injury depended on the experiences of professional healthcare staff and showed that specialized training reduced anxiety and altered perceptions. The perceptions of nonprofessional healthcare staff regarding inmate self-injury have not been studied. The purpose of this research was to understand the perceptions of inmate self-injury maintained by untrained healthcare staff through evaluation of their expressed experiences with self-injuring inmates. The research was based on the humanistic nursing theory. A phenomenological approach guided interviews of 8 healthcare staff having direct contact with inmates who self-injure. Participants had a past or present employment status with a State of Georgia Department of Corrections North Region correctional facility. Data were reviewed and coded to best reflect what it means to be a nonprofessionally trained healthcare member responding to inmate self-injury. Nonprofessional healthcare staff perceived that various experiences affected their level of ease and certainty, they operated as preservers of life and active listeners, felt that other healthcare staff held negative opinions, and were very helpful and supporting. Staff perceived that challenges prevented their success in managing self-injury. Last, nonprofessional staff perceived themselves as very helpful and therapeutic. This study promotes social change by encouraging staff to share knowledge, experience, and practical help with each other while building cohesive and collaborative relationships.
