Borges, Roberto Cabral de Mello January 2012 (has links)
This work researches the use of Information and Communication Technologies that are used by advanced age adults. The main purpose is to study the usage of those technologies for educational purposes. Older adults have some limitations, have difficulties to operate the devices and have a particular behavior about the use of some modern technologies. This study shows how the seniors are using these technologies, the difficulties they felt, their expectations and how they are getting some learning helped by the technologies and its benefits to their life quality. To designate this adult group, that covers the third age and one more age segment, immediatelly below, was created the expression "Advanced Age Adult" (55 to 59 years). In order to be able to quantify the kinds, intensity of use and difficulties in using was created an index that measures how much and how these adults are using each technology, thus allowing a comparison and classification. Through this index can be determined statistically which factors influence whether or not the use of technologies and inferred profile and behavior of the population studied. Known this profile can make recommendations and associations with technology types of activities that can promote some kind of learning for these users and by this, they can add one more component to their quality of life.

Pražák, Daniel January 2018 (has links)
Digital technologies have been present in the educational environment in the Czech Republic and other countries for many years. Not only are they becoming a relatively frequent means of making education more attractive, but they also have a great potential for improving methods of illustration in areas difficult to visualize, such as human biology and anatomy. The presented thesis is divided into the theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part summarizes available specialized literature covering the bases for utilizing digital technologies in the practice of teaching; maps out the process of implementing digital technologies into schools in the Czech Republic; and last but not least, describes key elements and methods of teaching with the help of digital technologies. The practical part introduces the results of a survey which took the form of a mixed methods research among elementary and high school pupils, teachers, and students of Teaching Preparation programs. In the final discussion, the amassed data are compared to some of the relevant past surveys conducted by various subjects. In addition, the practical part also includes model activities for using digital technologies in human biology teaching; a description of their pilotage; and a critical reflection on the process. Exploring the Relationship Between Academic Technology Use, Non-Academic Technology Use, and Gross Domestic Product on the 2009 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) Digital Reading Assessment

Ramberg, Zachary 14 January 2015 (has links)
Students' use of technology for the purpose of academic and leisure pursuits is ever increasing. Technology access, and its subsequent use for the many varied forms of digital reading, is particularly timely and relevant for high school aged students that will likely interact with digital reading for years to come. The relationship between academic technology use, non-academic technology use, and students' scores on the 2009 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) supplemental Digital Reading Assessment (DRA) as they related to gross domestic product (GDP) were explored in this study. Research questions were answered using extant data collected from the DRA and Information Communication Technology (ICT) survey portions of the 2009 PISA. Results indicated that academic and non-academic technology use ICT survey items were moderately correlated, however the academic and non-academic survey items were only weakly correlated to the DRA score. Moreover, the non-academic mean score was significantly higher than the academic mean score survey items. Finally, a regression analysis showed that GDP accounted for 3.28% of the variance; the non-academic survey explained 0.27% of the variance, while the academic technology use survey items only accounted for .05% of variance in the DRA. The relationship between academic and non-academic technology use as well as countries' overall DRA and GDP is further explored in the discussion.
